I think everyone has had the temptation to rob this or that part from an existing driver. My steadfast rule, for myself, anyway, is to never undo what I have already done. Keep a driver, a driver.
Personally, I would look for an older V8 Nova, 70's-80's Impala, Caprice or Malibu, (4drs are cheaper) donor car and sell the Lancer to fund it. I love donor cars. They yield a ton of nuts, bolts, seats, steering columns, ect., not to mention fenders, doors hoods and trunk lids for the swap meet. Then, the salvage yard will still give ya a few bucks for whats left.
I gotta go. Goin out and find my next donor...........

Good Hunting...........

Rodder's Roundtable / 67 Nova rearend
December 23, 2005, 11:44:09 AM
Well,...having had 11, yes, 11, 62-67 Novas, I have traveled this 12 bolt road a few times. Chances are, the car you have now, has a 10 bolt, not built to handle big HP.
Finding an original Chevy II 12 bolt will be nearly impossible and once found, very e$pen$ive. Besides, the stock rear brakes suck anyway and you know it will have the wrong gear ratio for you application.
My suggestion and what I did on the last Deuce, was have a 9" built to the correct, or custom width. Bout $2K, li'l pricey, but that problem solved.
Now, about that mono leaf spring. If you plan to retain the mono leaf spring, you'll need a good set of traction bars and because of the uni-body construction, sub frame connectors to help prevent body twist.  (Exp. Comp. Engineering or Lakewood bars, preferably with "J" bolts.) Also, Please, remember that car has been sittin on that single leaf spring for nearly 40 years. I suggest, at least new springs, or a 4 bar type rear suspension, with coil overs.
I realize I just suggested you spend a bunch on this car. But, in the long run, this is the safest and least costly fix for big HP.
BTW, fenderwell clearence for Chevy II's are very tight with the stock width rear. Camaro and later model Nova rears only compound this tire clearence problem. Just my experience.

Rodder's Roundtable / James Dean Gallery Closing
December 15, 2005, 12:23:05 AM
Well, unfortunately, another piece of Americana is turning to dust.
Rayvyn hit on it with America's youth. Four out of five people under twenty five don't know the legend of James Dean. Or Bogart, Marilyn, or Elvis for that matter. I was stopped in a routine road block inspection, by a 22-24 year old officer. He looked the car all over, complimented me on the car and then ask me what make of car it was. I ask him if he was a born American.
I was driven my '57 Chevrolet Belair 2dr. hardtop.

Moral of this jibberish..........stop gittin old.

Tech Archive / Street Rod Electrical grounding
December 12, 2005, 10:10:49 AM
What WZJunk said bout a three way is exactly what I did.  I used 3, 14" Taylor ground straps that I got from Summit Racing. PN# tay-148014, $4.99 ea.. Of course, make sure the connections are clean and tight. I connected the starter bolt to the frame idler arm bolt, firewall body bolt  to a rear head bolt and back at the trunk mounted battery, I bolted one from the negative battery post, that goes through the body,  to the frame. Overkill? Maybe. But, I can find a good ground any where in the car.

Rodder's Roundtable / HELP!!! Transmission Pan Leak
November 28, 2005, 11:41:22 PM
Just to share my experence, after 3 pans, oem, a chrome steel one and finally, an aluminum pan, my leak(700R4) turned out to be the o-ring that seals the trans pump. There was never a tell-tale drip line from the seal, which tells me it was only when running. I replaced the seal and the leak went away. Now, the drain plug gasket (nylon) is cracked and piddles.
Kinda makes you proud to be a street rodder, don't it????
