Rodder's Roundtable / What to do with old car magazines
October 23, 2007, 04:58:48 PM
Due to my line of work I am overloaded monthly with tons of neat car magazines.  Every couple of months I take the collected batch to the local USO to include in care packages to the troops.  Helps me by getting rid of them and gives our guys (and gals!) something to read to pass the time by.
Visit this site to see where the closest USO is to you:

http://uso.org/whoweare/findyourlocaluso/

Now, if you have little books like Hop Up and Rod & Custom you MUST give them all to me.

Thanks for the update on the dates.  It doesn't really matter if it starts or ends on a weekend when you have to drive and take off as much time as me.
I hope to make it out again this year.  It was way too much fun last year to ever miss again!

Jim you HAVE to come.  It won't be nearly as much fun without you!

Some of you may have seen my post last week asking about Rajo conversions, well, I took the plunge and bought the car.  Here is the story....

After looking at it Friday night I discovered it was in fact a 235ci truck engine.  There had been a 216ci in it at sometime but it is now a 235ci.
It is a complete Rajo conversion with both the head and intake.
After hearing the crack of her splits Friday night I knew I had to have her.  I brought her home Saturday.
Here is a pic of me and the former owner with her:

Here is a picture of her, "Black Beauty" as he called her:

And here is the part of her I love the most:

She was built 28 years ago so she is little dated.  I plan to lower it some and get rid of the etched windows, the period correct mural, the yellow traction bars and put some stock wheels and tires on her.

One of the things I liked best was the stock appearance of the dash and the interior as a whole.  The seats are a little furry but way too comfy to change:

Here are some more pictures...

Rodder's Roundtable / Rajo 216ci conversion-- rare?
October 19, 2007, 12:04:13 PM
have been offered a '53 Chevy 2dr post sedan with a 216ci Six with a Rajo conversion. I had heard of Rajo intakes and heads for 4 bangers but never for a Six. The only info I can find is on Speedy Bill's museum website here:
http://www.museumofamericanspeed.com/Collections/Engines/EngineHALGrpThumbs.shtml

http://www.museumofamericanspeed.com/Collections/Engines/AllAlphaE033.shtml

The car is solid and straight but I really don't have much interest in it. I would probably end up switching out the motor and selling it.

SO, who knows about Rajo conversions? Is it really as rare on this 216 as it seems it is in internet land? Anyone have a value on something like this?

It is a really neat set up. I just really need to justify to myself if it is worth buying yet another car.

This is a disease and we are all sick.

Rodder's Roundtable / Garage/Color Tour in Oct?

I'd be up for it as long as I'm not doing the Maxton thing that weekend.  Sounds like HRLC will need a driver....

Couldn't you just get a doctor's excuse? Did you really have to hurt yourself for real this time?

It goes without saying I am only a phone call away.

Please send my best to both your dad and mom.  He's a tough old bird with a good sense of humor.  He'll scare that bad stuff right out of him.  I look forward to hiking with you all next August.
I know all of his little nurses will help him feel better real soon!

It was nice meeting you at Bonneville.  I would love to see your videos as well.  Let me know if any make over here.

Hopefully someday Denise and I will make it over to see you!

That was like the gag reel of our trip, I LOVE it!  That moon pie should have been good but it wasn't.  Moonpies and Bonneville are not a good combo.  It was melted then re-chilled in the cooler.  I don't reccommend it.

As for Jim's blue balls he and I hi-jacked Denise's camera in attempt to make a trip to Hell*Mart somewhat enjoyable for us Wal*mart haters.  That is where the cucumber pic came from as well.

Definitely memories to last a lifetime, can't wait to do it again!

Sorry to hear the problems haven't ended.  Sounds like they are far from over.  Don't hesitate to call me if there is anything I can do to help.

I love it!  That was soooo much fun!  I was hesitant to do it at first then Sumner told me I had to then I couldn't stop!
The little girls were so much fun on the trip!  They are so well behaved and were good supplements for my missing nephew and niece!

I did more than sleep thank u very much!!!!
talkin on the phone don't count
Patrick would be in real trouble if he couldn't count phone time as doing something, but he's mastered the art of talking on the phone while sleeping, wrenching, and probably a few other things we didn't see.

....then there's times he just sits where he looks busy while somebody else takes care of business....

...just kidding Patrick.  I wish I'd have had as much going for me when I was 23.

Welcome to the RRT.  Hope your dad is feeling better.

I like that picture the best!
I was glad to help out.  Like I told you guys when I got to Blanding, just give me a job-- anything beats sitting around.

Glad to see you used my suggestion as your name on the RRT!

Rodder's Roundtable / WOW!!! It works!!

Glad to see you got your computer back to computing.  I wasn't worried though since I was informed that you were "computer literate"

It was nice meeting you at Bonneville and consequently spending days on end on the road together.  Our little caravan sure had a great time!  Can't wait until next year!  :D
