Quote from: "bucketmouth"Unfortunately the later date for Speed Week has messed up my travel plans. I don't have enough time to attend both that and the Louisville Nats.
I guess I'll have to find some other events to attend.
I was so looking forward to Bonneville again.

Sorry to hear the news.  I was looking forward to a visit.  Maybe something will change in the next few months and you can still make both meets.  I wonder how the change in dates will affect the usually weekend night time activities.  I know a lot of the spectators come for the weekend.

I personally would give up the Nats in L'ville for Speed Week.  There really is no comparison.

Motel 6 is booked up already.  I just called and talked to Helen.  The casino's are not taking until Jan 7th.

Your dead right about that there is no comparison. They're both good in their own right for completely different reasons. My traveling buddy would rather do the nats so at least that's decided on.
I've said it before you guys don't know how lucky you are to have so many big events to attend. I wish I could be as lucky.
I maybe from down under but I know which way is up.
Oh hell there goes another head rush.

They said that last year and then when people called on the 7th early the rooms were gone.  I would keep working on it.

I hate the motels there.  I went to World Finals a few weeks ago and called Motel 6 weeks before that and got a reservation with a rate of $180 for 5 nights total.  I then had a friend call later and they quoted higher rates and told him when I showed up it would be more.   When I booked they didn't realize it was World Finals then.  So a day before I left I called and they said $220.  I asked if that was now firm otherwise I would take the teardrop.  They said it was.  Well I get there Tuesday and check in.  Guess what??  It was now $320.  I was *.  I told them to cancel and I would take the one night at the $35 advertised out front.  Next day I went to the Red Garter and got rooms for $25 a night and $50 a night for Friday and Sat..  The meet was canceled on Friday, so I got my money back for Fri. and Sat..

Try the Red Garter.  I liked the room better than Motel 6 on top of it.

c ya,

Thanks Sum,  Just called and they said no reservations for about a month, I set up a reminder for every day in November to call and try.

Thanks for the update on the dates.  It doesn't really matter if it starts or ends on a weekend when you have to drive and take off as much time as me.
I hope to make it out again this year.  It was way too much fun last year to ever miss again!

Jim you HAVE to come.  It won't be nearly as much fun without you!

Just thought I'd bring this back up to the top of things and get a feel for who is still planning on going.

I'm going to trailer my orange roadster and use the trailer as my motel room. I should have roof vents, a slide out a/c unit and a fold down bunk installed by then. Alao have a generator for the bend in the road. Planning on stopping at Sum's for a few days on the way.

So who's going and who ain't going? Don't let the price of gas scare ya...might be the last time we can afford to go anyway.

Charlie
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying. "Wow...that was fun!"

Good deal, it will be good to see you and have you here  :D .

Oh, by the way I'm going  8) .  I sent my entry in yesterday.  I don't know if I'll have the car done, but sending in the entry is more incentive.  Even if it wasn't ready to run I would take it and have them tech it.

c ya and hopefully some others also in August,

Yep still coming and petrol costs won't be a concern for me and my buddy. We haven't been able to secure any accomadation so we might just show up and hope for the best.

I don't know where all the time has gone but we started planning this trip a year ago, crikey it's gone fast.
Can anyone give a progress report on the expected salt condition this year.

It's not looking good at the moment. Lots of standing water on the race course.

Hi Don, that is for El Mirage right now for this weekend.  I haven't heard about water on the salt.  Hope you aren't right,
