Rodder's Roundtable / Re: complete video of the #974
November 15, 2006, 09:19:40 PM
Quote from: "WZ JUNK"Posted on utube is the complete run where Hooley and the 974 did a little spin at Bonneville 2006.  Several of us on the board were there that day.  This should take you to the video that Jim made with his helmet camera that was attached under the rear wing.

Notice that the car got loose several times and that our seasoned and skilled driver (Hooley) was able to save the car from spinning.  When the actual spins starts he is quick on the shut and along for the ride.  He is "Just Glad to be There".

Somebody, with a quick connection, give it a try and see if the link works.

John
Enjoyed the video. It's Winter here tonight with a howling wind. Watching Hooley was a good escape. Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Shop update
November 05, 2006, 07:59:37 PM
Quote from: "Ohio Blue Tip"Just an update on "Ken's Dream Shop".
I have the 2nd floor in and the heating system built and running, also the electrical is roughed in.  Water, phone, gas, TV and computer lines are in.
Later Ken

Ken, the shop looks great. What kind of insulation did you decide to use? Sam

So brother, did you back up to the front doors and do a smokey burnout upon departure? You know-the way we used to. Weather was nice here today also, but windy. Maybe you efforts encouraged a next generation rodder to join in the fun. Mo.

Walt called me on Friday stating that the weather was great and that this was a must attend event(I was supposed to go with him). He said that he was hanging out with all of you and having a great time. Thanks for posting the photos. That's a nice dunebuggie that Kurt,s driving. Another season ends-new rods, new friends. Sam

There's so much 32 stuff in there that we hardly had room to drink a cold beer.

Rodder's Roundtable / Louisville, this week!
July 31, 2006, 09:16:59 PM
If all goes well, I will be leaving Rolla by early afternoon on Friday. I hope to get to registration before it closes Friday evening. My friend Ron has to report for jury duty on Thursday. All depends on whether or not he gets picked for a trial and if I can get away from work.  We will be at the event for Saturday only. Will all of you be congregating along the fence near the swapmeet as you have in the past? We'll be in my trusty 48 pickup. Nick, I've been working in the recent triple didgit heat all day. My cowl vent will be closed with the a/c on for this trip. I'm leaving the HEAP(mobility cruiser) at home as well. Hope to see you all there. Sam

Tech Archive / Street Rod Electrical grounding
December 11, 2005, 10:22:40 PM
I use the round ground panel marketed by Haywire- other similar panels will work. I use a 10 ga. (or heavier) wire from the point near the starter where the (-) battery cable attaches to the engine, to ground the panel. I mount this master ground terminal somewhere up in the cowl behind the dash. Then everything i.e. light, gauge, switch, etc. grounds off that panel. I treat every vehicle as if the body were fiberglass. I've never had a problem with this set up. Sam

Quote from: "sirstude"Just went out on Landracing.com, and checked on Hooleys progress.  If you click on the Bonneville Speedweeks section on the right, you can look up the results, comments, and pictures.  Hooley was cooking in the first mile on the short course, and then must have shut down.  There are pictures of his car and Sum's Truck on the Sunday section, so he must have run today.  Saturday's results didn't show up until today, so today's probably won't show up until later tonight, or early tomorrow.  He was up to 194 in the quarter, so that thing flat accelarates!!!

Doug

Wz called yesterday morning and said they were done-problems with the blower that couldn't be fixed at the track. They are heading home.  Sam

Quote from: "Charlie Chops 1940"Have been steady thrashing away at little stuff on the '40 and the Mullins Redcap: new mufflers & tailpipes. radiator shroud. degunked the battery hot lead, new front seats, changed oil and filter, spare belts and radiator hoses, put a wrench on basically everything I could touch, a few more wire ties here and there, and new wiring on the trailer..

I think it's ready to go. It'll be the longest single trip in 26 years and 141,000 miles. 5 more wakeups and we're off for a liesure tour of the corn states,Colorado and Utah.

Charlie

Charlie, sure wish I was going this year. I can't believe it's been three years since we were there and Hooley got the itch. Too much money for me this year but I'll be there in spirit. I told brother and Hooley to "go fast". Have a safe trip. For me there's nothing that compares to being on the open road in a hot rod. I'm now starting to wonder if I should take off to L'ville Friday night. I may see some of you there. Be Safe-Sam

Nick, I just sent you a PM. I heard you were also planning to attend both the Frog Follies and the HAMB Drags the same weekend. I'm doing the same. Let me know if you want to run with me and stay over at my place in Rolla on Friday night. Your car looks sweet. Good luck on your maiden voyage. Sam

I used it on the floor of my cab to serve as a sound deadener and to protect from moisture from above. Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Rat rod trucks at Columbus OH
July 12, 2005, 08:55:58 AM
The truck from Springfield (beginning of this post) really has the hot look. It's low and well built. I bet it handles pretty good. Alot of these trucks are being built. A friend of mine is getting ready to put a model A cab on an early 30's chev. chassis. He's going to retain the parallel leaf spring up front with a dropped axle. The radiator will be set back behind the axle. Should give a good look. On grille shells, I think a 33-34 Ford truck grille would look good with about any of the cabs-especially the 35-37 Fords and the 37-39 chevs. Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Rat rod trucks at Columbus OH
July 11, 2005, 12:25:55 PM
Beck, the same three trucks were at GG Indy-even made it into the "Pro's Pick" area behind the grandstand. Anyway, I can't relate to taking a nice rod and "ratting" it out. Guess everyone want's to get into it. I forsee "ratted out" trailers to haul them being on the horizon. Anyway, I like these vehicles and I spend alot of time seeking them out at events. They take me back to a simpler time. I believe that it's a movement stating that "things have gotten out of hand". Some are well built cars/trucks made to look rough. Others, I wouldn't drive and aren't safe. I just completed a 26 Modified. It's rough but I consider it well built. Not really a true "rat rod" but a hot rod that is dependable and everyone is welcome to cruise the grounds in. I built it from all the pieces I had left from previous cars. I call it a hotrod. This should get better. Faux patina is no problem but what happens when you attempt to induce bullet holes into a glass body? Just wondering? Sam
