Rodder's Roundtable / I'm not slackin' either........
February 18, 2008, 09:06:35 AM
Sure looks good to me. I'm doing the same style project and found that my engine mount cross member was too low when I finally got to wheel and ground clearance issues. What brand of front axel is that? and where did you get it? I'm running tubular and not convinced that it will give me what I want.  I've been on mine for so long that I've been in and out of style so many time I've lost count.
May be someone could answer this,,,,,,,,,, why doesn't any one use tie rod ends on their radius rods any more?  Goes to show how long I've been at this stuff.

Rodder's Roundtable / Kudos for a manufacturer

These are just the kind of feed back a guy needs to see more often,  doesn't matter if it's good or bad. I really appreciate the honesty. My dollars don't seem to go very far these days so any sort of feed back is great to me.

Rodder's Roundtable / Electric fan control switch
January 29, 2008, 04:48:16 PM
Now that we're on this subject I ahave a question.,,,,,, Which is the most reliable temp sensor? The ones in the head or manifold, the ones that go under a thermostat housing bolt, or the real nice looking ones that slip under the rad hose into the rad reservior?
          Thanks for your input.

Rodder's Roundtable / Need help with seat foam
January 03, 2008, 07:02:00 PM
Years ago I worked in a foam rubber mine............. :?  We used electric knives for the small stuff and had a real big one for the bigger stuff like mattresses etc. Any "cuttings" that were developed were used for pillows etc................  It was nice and dry down there and a real safe place to work cause if you happen to fall down well,,,,,,,,,,,,you just bouced back up

ok, ok I'm just working on my TEAM apprenticship :P

Use an electric knife, section the cushion and glue it back together it works great.

January 02, 2008, 06:54:51 PM
I have a friend/relation/aquaintence, (think he's dead now) but anyways he had his tools stolen  ,,,,,,,,,,,, man he loved his tools,,,,,,,,,,,, so he rigged up a bomb inside his tool box  ,,,,,,, sure enough ,,,,, they were stollen  ,,,,,,,,,,, the thieves drove about a mile or two from his house and ,,,,,,,,,,,,BOOM
Believe it or not they sued for damages, loss of hearing and loss of fingers.  It cost him a fortune in legal fees just to defend himself. His sentiments were,,,,,,,,,,,, nobody fxxx's with my tools. 8)
True story happened about 20 years ago.

I bought a 1/2 x 9/16 craftsman box end wrench in 1967 and ground the edges of both ends to about 1/16 thick to get to those real tight spots and have used it and abused it for the past 40 years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it's an old friend. it has it's own speacial spot in the tool box. 8)

Rodder's Roundtable / 16'' steel wheels 5x41/2 ford
October 29, 2007, 01:20:38 AM
Willys trucks and jeeps cj2A had 16" rims with that pattern. Only thing different was the hole in the center was bigger to accomodate the big hubs but same as early ford pattern.  They were skinny took a 600X16 tire.

October 04, 2007, 09:32:11 AM
My daily runner is an '83 chev pu 4x4   I had this "pro" nignog do ball joints for me,,,, he says,," I put an 1/8" toe in on it,,, I like it like that,,", I asked for him to take it out he insisted and being as the truck was outside waiting I reluctantly took it,,,,,,,,,,,,  I had new michelins on it,,,,,,,,,,, they were shot in 7000 mi,,,, these guys walk the walk and talk the talk but not too many know whether they are punched or bored.  So, 1/8" cost me $100's.. got a back yard buddy to help me set it up and now it is right  ,,,, From experience hiring a "pro" is a big coin toss especialy if he's going to work on an old car or a rod..........

Rodder's Roundtable / some progress on my shop
September 16, 2007, 01:50:52 AM
I am building a 30X60 shop as well, ,,,,,,,  Stud your walls and insulate conventionally with 6ml vapour barrier would be best. OR you could get insulation kits from metal building dealers,, OSB is an engineered product so it is good for what you want no probs. Some guys put blocking on edge in the walls horizontally about 5' level with a 2x6 or 8 then screw on dry wall,,, the wide blocking is to nail to when you want to hang things,,,,, may be try flourecent lights along the walls AND over head,, get cold weather balasts in them though. Also try to get some sort of ventilation in your attic area so your roof won't sweat and rain every time you want to work inside it. Vapour barrier under you slab would also stop alot of moisture. You could also strap your roof trusses with 2x4 and screw a ceilng on easily WITH vapour barrier but ventilate that attic area.

Good luck,,,,,,,,, looks like a great building to me.
