Cobbler's shoes Joe. It turns out the causes of most of my problems, was me assuming that things were still as I had put them together. When in fact there were several things that had changed that contributed to my problems.

I want to thank several people here, C9 for a nice visit, and a cold drink,  WZJUNK for a bed and dinner, DRD57 for a neat roadster ride, and his efforts to make the tour interesting, Tonto's "uncle" for driving me around LA, Kroozn for the use of his shop in Las Vegas for some repair work, and everyone who showed up for the tour that made it as much fun as it was.
enjenjo, how did you do getting through the construction area on I-44 between Cuba and Sullivan, Mo.?  Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Springfield, MO anyone?

Couper, I'll be inspecting from 10:00-1:00 on Saturday, maybe I'll run into you. The rest of the time I'll be trying to keep WZ out of trouble with the Mongoose and his new gizmo. Sam

Quote from: "HotRodLadyCrusr"The HAMB Drags will be held on Saturday August 27th this year.  It IS NOT the Saturday following the start of Speed Week like it has been in the past.  I guess the track was rented for that day already.  It has not been determined yet if it's going to be a daytime event or nitetime.

For those that have no clue what I'm referring to, the HAMB Drags is a day of drag-racing traditional styled hot rod and customs, (and a few others) at an old dragstrip called MO-KAN near Joplin, MO on the Missouri/Kansas boarder.  Along with the actual racing, there was a garage crawl, RT66 tour, and a huge BBQ at JimC's place.  It sure was a weekend to remember.

I prefer the daytime racing over night as well but it's a fun event either way. Brother is talking some trash with "Flamed A-Bone" on the Hamb. WZ wants a rematch. Last year we had to really push to get to the drags after the 66 Cruise. Summer's comin.  Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Mopar Diff measurement
January 30, 2005, 09:07:10 PM
Quote from: "Canuck"Question for MO_JUNK, you wouldn't happen to have a measurement from axle end to axle end for that Mopar diff would you?

Inquiring minds need to know

Thanks

I have the wheels back on now but as close as I can measure, it is between 59 and 59 1/2 inches, wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. Sam

Quote from: "john zemba"I know I want an 8 or 9 inch rear end assembly but from where and how long? I reallt do not want to cut one down if this is possible.  I am told the older broncos will fit ,but are they big or strong enough?Am I looking for 54 to 57 inches in length.  The car is a Model A 29 tudor.

John, I ran an early Bronco 9" in a 32 roadster. The rear is a good width for Model A's and 32's. It had the 5 on 5 1/2 early bolt pattern that matched the front early ford pattern and I ran steelies all around. I ran a stock frame with a 32 spring and  a stock 32 gas tank. The rear was not centered but was not in clear view. I bought the complete rear drum to drum for $100.00 and it was a 3:50:1 posi. I am now building a 26' Ford modified. It has a Model A rear crossmember and Model A spring. I wanted the pumpkin centered for a good look. I did not want to spend the big bucks for narrowing and centering an 8" or 9" ford. I am using an 8 3/4 Mopar rear from a later 60's "B" body (Coronet, Satellite, Belvidere, etc.) The rear is real clean, centered with the spring, and gives a good look. It has 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern. The Mopar has huge axles. And, yes the 8" Granda and Fairlane rears are a good fit. I think Mavericks are the narrowist. Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Disc Brakes for 9" Ford

Quote from: "MO_JUNK"Most add-on disc brake kits for the 9" Ford rearends reuire a weld-on caliper bracket and a two piece rotor. The two piece rotor is deeper and causes some back spacing issues. Does anyone know of a complete bolt-on kit with a factory style one piece rotor? Sam

Ive been debating a while about converting the 32 to rear disk brakes but then I kinda wonder why? My car dosent really weigh much and I think Ive got the rear drum issue cured so im gonna stick with drums. Seems interesting I had a 2002 s-10 zr2 pickup with 4 wheel disk brakes and my new colorado 4x4 has rear drums and its a bigger truck? Kinda makes you think..
Dave

N8DC, I ran drums front and rear on my 32 roadster. Upfront I used 53-56 F-100 brakes and 185x15 tires. In the back I used the stock early bronco rear and drums with 310x15 tires. I used a late 60's chev 1/2 ton dual master cylinder. Even with the big and little combo, it stopped very good.  Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Disc Brakes for 9" Ford
January 25, 2005, 08:55:44 AM
Quote from: "sirstude"Sam,

I did my conversion with the brakes off of a 76 Lincoln.  If you have the big bolt 9" ford, all you have to do is cut the tapered bearing retainer off of the mount.  When you look at the mount, what you have to do is self explanitory.  If you have the small bolt 9", you will have to slot the holes in the mounts.  It took me about an hour to get mine set up.  Redrilling the rotors from 5 on 5 to Chevy bolt pattern took the longer than mounting the brakes.

Doug

sirstude, thanks for the tip. I assume you mean the full size Lincoln. We will go junkyarding and see what we can find. Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / An Open Question

I think changing our interest and trying new things keeps us young. I used to fish hard-studied it. I made my own lures, wrapped my own rods, caught an 11 pound largemouth bass, then a 4 pound smallmouth. After that some of the thrill was gone. Wz and I got deep into R/C sailplanes-even competed in a national competion-mine haven't been out of the storage box in 11 years. I have always loved cars. I actually completed and drove my first streetrod through the gate at the OK City Nats in 1991. I won a national award, got a Boyd trophy.  I began to burnout about six years ago and realized that I wasn't having as much fun anymore. I went to primered rods-jump in and hit the road. I no longer worry about who's leaning on it, belt buckels, ect. I haul the EZ-up and coolers for my coupe and roadster buddies. I'm having alot more fun and I'm relaxed. Now I've started fishing again-but, not in a big bassboat. I wade the small steams, even use a bobber and worms sometimes. I enjoy it again. Change is good. With the cars, I am now attracted more to the smaller shows, kicking back and just visiting. Somedays my feet hurt from all the walking. I think it's only natural for our interests to change. I'm going to take a nap now and think somemore. Sam

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: B'ville Hotels/Motels/Casinos

Quote from: "MO_JUNK"Folks, I replied to Sums post but my response must have ended up somewhere in cyberspace. Anyway, I went to the SCTA-BNI site and gazed at the Motel/Hotel/Casino list for Wendover. Before I start calling, have any of you had any other than desireable experiences with any of the establishments? Any you would recommend? thanks, Sam

Thanks for the input. I spoke with the Wendover Chamber of Commerce yesterday. They also stated that all of the rooms are about the same quality. I requested a city map as to determine the location of the casinos. They stated that their map would not fax well and they didn't have an electronic version. Anyway, I believe the Rainbow Casino is where we ate in 2002-it's on the Nevada side down the main drag on the left. I'll probably try for that. Sam

Quote from: "1FATGMC"Ok guys B'ville is only about 7 months away and I wanted to offer up an invitation to any of you that would like to join some of us first here in Blanding and then for the trip up to B'ville.

Hooley is going racing again with the Stude this next year and he and his wife and John (WZJUNK) and his wife are going to come out and spend a few days in the area before the wives drive home and the rest of us head for B'ville.

The plan is to get into Blanding by Tuesday night (9th of Aug.).  Wed I'll take any of you that are here out to an Anasazi Ruin in the morning before it gets real hot.  After that we can go out to Natural Bridges National Monument and eat lunch there or before we get there (take sack lunches).  From there we can sight-see a little more and then all go to dinner together or do a BBQ at the house.

I've picked out a ruin that won't be a real challange to get to if you are having some health problems.  We can drive any vehicle to within 1/4 mile of it and then it is just a walk down a dirt road to the site.  We can also take my jeep and any other high ground clearace vehicles all the way to it and that would take care of anyone who has a problem walking.

The site is situated at the head of a really pretty canyon with unrestored towers around the top and then on various levels down into the canyon there are cliff dwellings.

You can enjoy the view from the top or climb down to the various levels of cliff dwellings.

There are also some nice petroglyphs there.  All in all this is a nice site and I think you will enjoy it and it won't kill you to get to it.

We have to get to B'ville Thursday night so we can set up the pits on Friday morning and get the car through inspection, so we will make the drive from Blanding up to the Salt on Thursday.  We will have the day so I plan on stopping at Bo Huff's again this year.  For those of you who have been there I'm sure you will enjoy a return visit as something new is usually always going on there.  For those of you who haven't been to Bo's you will be in for a real treat.

Going to Bo's is stepping back into time and I've had a few people tell me that was the highlight of their trip to B'ville.  More Pictures of Bo's Car Show Here

After spending a couple hours there we will continue up to B'ville getting in there Thursday night.

So if any of you are interested in joining us please let me know and make some plans to have a good time.  If you go to the Nats. you have 2 1/2 days to get to Blanding (by Tues. night), so this will give you something to do between the Nats. and Bville.

I'll post all of this again later in the spring and again about June/July.  If you are planning on doing this let me know so I have some idea how many of you will be here.

c ya, Sum

Sumner, as Wz stated my wife and I are now making plans for a significant trip out West this comming Summer. We will run U.S. 40 to around Santa Rosa NM. and then head north. We plan to go thru Sante Fe, Taos, Durango, etc. We would like to come by Blanding for your festivities, tours, etc. I'm sure we can get a room at the motel across the street without a reservation. Do you agree? Here's a couple questions. We want to spend one day and night at B'ville. We need some ideas on things to see to burn a few days between Blanding and the salt. We will probably plan on being at B'ville Saturday and Saturday night. I want to be there after the tech. inspections are completed. I want to see the runs and partake in the Saturday night parkinglot festivities, bend in the road, etc. Do any of you know the names of the hotels/casinos on the Nv. side at Wendover. I want to make reservations. We plan on leasing a vehicle for the trip. It will be a high profile Explorer, Expedition or Ford pickup. We can help haul folks to the ruins, picnics, etc. After B'ville we will head north up into Wy. and parts unknown making our way back to Mo. Sam

Quote from: "AG"Who makes a better setup?

I like the Gennie. I had one in my 32 on a TH350 and it worked great. I'm on my second one now in my modified. With the Gennie you can use any type of shift knob-no center button.  Sam

Ron is very excited. M.K. called him the other night and gave him a "heads up" on the picture. It is fun to drive other's cars. Sometime it's nice to spend some time in your own ride with a buddy at the wheel. It gives you a different perspective. To put it in your words brother "Never Pass Up the Chance to Drive Somsbody Else's Hot Rod"   Sam
