Ok guys B'ville is only about 7 months away and I wanted to offer up an invitation to any of you that would like to join some of us first here in Blanding and then for the trip up to B'ville.

Hooley is going racing again with the Stude this next year and he and his wife and John (WZJUNK) and his wife are going to come out and spend a few days in the area before the wives drive home and the rest of us head for B'ville.

The plan is to get into Blanding by Tuesday night (9th of Aug.).  Wed I'll take any of you that are here out to an Anasazi Ruin in the morning before it gets real hot.  After that we can go out to Natural Bridges National Monument and eat lunch there or before we get there (take sack lunches).  From there we can sight-see a little more and then all go to dinner together or do a BBQ at the house.

I've picked out a ruin that won't be a real challange to get to if you are having some health problems.  We can drive any vehicle to within 1/4 mile of it and then it is just a walk down a dirt road to the site.  We can also take my jeep and any other high ground clearace vehicles all the way to it and that would take care of anyone who has a problem walking.

The site is situated at the head of a really pretty canyon with unrestored towers around the top and then on various levels down into the canyon there are cliff dwellings.

You can enjoy the view from the top or climb down to the various levels of cliff dwellings.

There are also some nice petroglyphs there.  All in all this is a nice site and I think you will enjoy it and it won't kill you to get to it.

We have to get to B'ville Thursday night so we can set up the pits on Friday morning and get the car through inspection, so we will make the drive from Blanding up to the Salt on Thursday.  We will have the day so I plan on stopping at Bo Huff's again this year.  For those of you who have been there I'm sure you will enjoy a return visit as something new is usually always going on there.  For those of you who haven't been to Bo's you will be in for a real treat.

Going to Bo's is stepping back into time and I've had a few people tell me that was the highlight of their trip to B'ville.  More Pictures of Bo's Car Show Here

After spending a couple hours there we will continue up to B'ville getting in there Thursday night.

So if any of you are interested in joining us please let me know and make some plans to have a good time.  If you go to the Nats. you have 2 1/2 days to get to Blanding (by Tues. night), so this will give you something to do between the Nats. and Bville.

I'll post all of this again later in the spring and again about June/July.  If you are planning on doing this let me know so I have some idea how many of you will be here.

I'm definitely planning on it.  I won't have the teardrop done by then so I might want to sign up for Julie's camper if you're not going to be too crowded.  We need to stay healthy this year.  A bunch of us got sick last year and it was a bummer for a few days. :(

Sumner is one heck of a tour guide and the scenery is just awesome around Blanding.

Here's a few pictures from last summer.  They don't even begin to show the real beauty of standing there in person.

This is a picture of a canyon we walked down into to check out some Anasazi ruins.  The finger is pointing to a spot that we walked to.

This is a little closer to that same spot.  Jim River took this shot of me and Sumner.

And this is the same pic zoomed in a little.  Sumner is where the finger is....the same spot as in the top pic

This is one of the ruins on that ledge

Lunch time....River1 is serving :D

I'm hosting these pics from a Comcast website that I just started so if they don't show up or it's too much for a dial-up connection let me know and I'll fix it.  I just want to share some of the thrill a midwesterner feels when I'm standing in those canyons.

I am in but you already knew that.  I wanted to post so I could keep track of this thread.   I am working on my brother and his wife to stop by.  They have changed their summer vacation to include Bonneville.  Brenda and I are really looking forward to the day at your place.  I have tried to describe the sunrises and sunsets there but about all I get out is that they are undescribeable.  Last year I was up before sunrise even though the day before had been a long one.

We only have seven months to get the race car ready!!!

Man, I think I'm in. Have wanted to bring Sharon out there so I guess this may be the year. Now I need to talk her into going for a few weeks in the '40. She has a bad back so I'm sure that her vote will be for the Trailblazer.
Maybe a new pair of seats and a week to drive out will work. Either way I'll be there.

Sumner, as Wz stated my wife and I are now making plans for a significant trip out West this comming Summer. We will run U.S. 40 to around Santa Rosa NM. and then head north. We plan to go thru Sante Fe, Taos, Durango, etc. We would like to come by Blanding for your festivities, tours, etc. I'm sure we can get a room at the motel across the street without a reservation. Do you agree? Here's a couple questions. We want to spend one day and night at B'ville. We need some ideas on things to see to burn a few days between Blanding and the salt. We will probably plan on being at B'ville Saturday and Saturday night. I want to be there after the tech. inspections are completed. I want to see the runs and partake in the Saturday night parkinglot festivities, bend in the road, etc. Do any of you know the names of the hotels/casinos on the Nv. side at Wendover. I want to make reservations. We plan on leasing a vehicle for the trip. It will be a high profile Explorer, Expedition or Ford pickup. We can help haul folks to the ruins, picnics, etc. After B'ville we will head north up into Wy. and parts unknown making our way back to Mo. Sam

For any of you who are really adventurous, or have a lot of vacation, the Spokane Good Guys event is Aug 18-21.  It is only about an 800 mile jaunt from Bonneville.  I am still working on getting a bit more time off so I can get down to the salt again this year.

For those of you who have never been there, last year was my first trip after MANY years of saying I was going.  It cannot be described, you jut have to experience it.  The sound of WAY TOO MUCH HORSEPOWER going by at an unbelievable speed is, as the kids would say, way cool!

I can either do the RRT Greasy Spoon Tour out in CA in June or Speed Week in B'ville in Augest.  I only get 14 days paid vacation so I can't do both.   Decisions, decisions

Looking for old good for nothing flathead heads to use for garden project.

We're doing Bonneville again this year but since we are heading out from the other direction the sightseeing before the salt is out.  We're staying at the Motel 6 and will see evryone on Friday.  We're also heading east this year the first part of June for the Power Tour so while all of you are heading for California, we'll be going the other way.
Denise, If you don't go to California I may be heading toward Detroit right after Memorial weekend.

QuoteGeroge: so I might want to sign up for Julie's camper if you're not going to be too crowded.

We will probably stick you out in the camper in the garden as Natalie is on her way back to Hawaii.

QuoteWZJUNK: Last year I was up before sunrise even though the day before had been a long one.

you are always up before sunrise .

QuoteCrosley: we hope to make B'ville again this year.

You guys should just follow Jim up from Phoenix and go out with us. :) .

QuoteKen: Alert the authorities, I'm planning on attending the 2005 trek west. Sum, save me a spot out back, I may have to be in a tent, but I'm coming.

We'll have a place for you  :D .

QuoteSam: We need some ideas on things to see to burn a few days between Blanding and the salt.  Do any of you know the names of the hotels/casinos on the Nv. side at Wendover. I want to make reservations.

Sam if you aren't going up with us on Thursday I would head west out of Blanding on 95.  Out by Natural Bridges take 276 to Lake Powell and take the ferry across the lake.  Then there is a road that might not show up on all maps called the Burr Trail.  The first part is paved and then there is a gravel section through Capitol Reef Natl Park and then paved again over to highway 12 by Boulder Utah.  I've never done this drive (Burr Trail), but it is suppose to be out of this world.  At Boulder go southwest to Bryce Canyon and then from there down to Zion National Park.  These are both spectacular places.  From there I15 north to Salt Lake City and west to the salt. At almost anyplace on this route you could head north to SLC.

For the lodging in Wendover go to the SCTA Site.  On the first page there go to "BONNEVILLE" and on the next page go to "Food and Lodging".  You had better do this quick as it is my understanding Motel 6 is booked already.  One of the guys on landracing.com just found a room at Super 8.  Good luck and it will be good to see you   .

What do you mean Decisions, decisions.  There is only ONE CLEAR CHOICE HERE  :D .  We will be expecting you in Blanding.

QuoteLeon: but since we are heading out from the other direction the sightseeing before the salt is out.

Just take I40 west to Flagstaff and come on up here and join the fun.  A one day drive from southern Calif. (if that is where you are).

And it is going to be good seeing all the rest of you coming to Blanding.

Time is the factor.  Although I have received additional vacation time this year, we will travel to tennessee to see our grand daughters this year also.

I am thinking about the purchase of a fossil fuel powered scooter to use to get around the b'ville area.  Needs to be an CVT type  tranny thing since Janice and shifting gears on a scooter do not seem to mix well.

I wanted to send her to a motorcycle training course for beginners, women only classes are available.  that was not recieved well either
