Rodder's Roundtable / carburetor explosion
May 08, 2006, 08:37:23 PM
Well, everything seems to be working well until I really get on it.   I have plenty of power on the primaries.  She's running smooth as glass.  But everytime the secondaries open the beast backfires through the exhaust AND intake!     I did have problems with the carb filling with junk out of the new aluminum tank, through a filter! (?)   That has all been cleaned out.
It's an Edelbrock 650, brand new.  I'm running a Holley Blue with 6.5 pounds of pressure, thorough a regulator.
Any ideas?

Rodder's Roundtable / timing by vaccum
May 07, 2006, 08:21:13 AM
Has anyone ever heard of setting the initial timing with a vaccum gauge?  One of the old mechanics at our garage said my rod sounded retarded.  I used one of those bolt on timing strips and set it to 12 degrees advance.  He put the vacuum gauge on it and ran it up to about 1800 rpm, and advanced it until it leveled off at about 19.5 inches.  It runs GREAT!  Why wouldn't the type of cam cause variations in the vaccum setting?

Rodder's Roundtable / vacuum advance
January 27, 2006, 10:55:23 PM
Does anyone know how to set the vacuum advance on the distributor?  I put in a new Assel distributor and coil.  I have no power.  Initial advance is set at a normal 8 degrees.  I tried to set up the vacuum avance with the allen wrench and things improved.  But I have no idea what the "correct" setting is.  Also, now it backfires through the mufflers on WOT.

Rodder's Roundtable / window felt
December 04, 2005, 08:42:16 PM
Does anybody have any ideas on replacing window felt? ... sources? The driver's side on my Camaro has gotten so bad it won't go up.  I found pieces in the door.  I replaced the motor and the switch and they work but the friction is just too great.

Rodder's Roundtable / electric fuel pump
December 01, 2005, 08:41:41 PM
HI Guys,
The Delco fuel pump on the rod is not putting out enough fuel above 2000 rpm.  She starts to stumble and gasp.  It even quit on me several times and I hit it with a wrench and it started to pump again. ..... I bought a Holley Blue Pump 12-802-1.  This one has a regulator.  It's supposed to put out 14 psi from the factory.  Is that too much for an Edelbrock 1406, 650 cfm carb?  Can I skip the regulator?
I have a customer flying in from NY on Saturday and I don't have enough time off to replumb the line.  (Working three jobs right now)

There were over a thousand registered cars there.  The swap area was pretty good and the weather was fabulous.

Rodder's Roundtable / scammer
October 16, 2005, 09:11:29 PM
Just like you said:  I got an e-mail on my '34 from a guy in "Canada".  He says he is an international buyer and a customer is interested in the rod.  I mail back the info. expecting it's a scam, he mails back.  As the agent he will send me a check for $6500 over the cost of the car ... send him the difference.  I called the Sheriff, he says they won't do anything until there is actually a fraud committed.?!#?  They aren't interested in nailing any body.

I sent him a note.  "Sounds good.  First send me a deposit of $10 K.  Do you have a problem with that?" .... no answer.

I got phony letters from E-bay (two times) paypal (once) my bank and two banks that I don't even have an account with.  When are they going to start zapping these guys.  Don't ever answer, just delete.  The last E-bay phony had a virus attached!  My McAfee zapped that one.

Buyer or browser beware!

Rodder's Roundtable / aluminum gas tank
October 08, 2005, 07:59:48 AM
I finally got the Street Beast on the road.  Last week I went to a show and filled the gas tank half full for the first time.  The next morning I find gasoline dripping all over the garage floor.  It seems that this brand new aluminum tank has a pinhole on the side at one of the welds on the support flanges.  I polished it and clear coated it before I put it in.  should I even attempt to use one of those putty products or should I just take it somewhere to get it welded up?

Rodder's Roundtable / Florida title for street rod
June 16, 2005, 06:39:07 PM
The '34 is finished!  Now I need to title it.  I bought the body from a guy who supplied me with an MOS.  The people told me that it had to be titled by the man who bought it.  I bought a reg. and bill of sale from Vintage Titles and took it to the MVD and they wanted to check to see the VIN ON THE CAR.  Obviously that ain't goin' to happen!  They said that there is an assembler title in Florida but I fear that since what happened to me up north 40 years ago.  Any advise?
