QuoteAnybody know the front and rear track widths on a '95 Caprice?
-95 Caprice is front 61.8" and rear 62.3".
I know because I have thought of that swap myself.

Hello Doug.
I would like to consult you again about air suspension when I finally get my stuff if it's ok with you. I have never deal with this before and needs some advice :D

QuoteThat rack looks just like the Cavalier rack that's going into my 56 Ford wagon. My rack has a total of 6 1/8" (155.57mm) travel. I located the rack so that the plate that bolted to the rack, and welded to the drag link, kept the drag link in the same position as with the steering box - idler arm. Hope this helps some, and is not too confusing.

John,
Did you have any photos at your rack setup?

The Vectra is a medium size car and very common on scrap yards over here for a low coast. And yes, the inner lower control arm pivot points are about 5.5" apart.  And I assume that the rack should sit parallel with the lower control arm in ride height.

I have some thoughts about mounting Rack & pinion on my –41 Buick.
It has the original IFS, no clip. Just to achieve power steering and headers space. Maybe I go for a clip in the future but not right now. A friend came up with the idea of using a Opel Vectra, calibra rack. It's a center steering model similar to a Cavalier. What are your thoughts about this? How to avoid bump steer?  There are some bump steers right now from the factory in my ol Buick :( . Are there any guidelines to this kind of setup?  I don't know how familiar you are to the Buick front suspension but here is a couple of pics http://web.telia.com/~u47704801/framvagn.htm

And here's a photo of the Opel rack. Sorry, measurements only in mm. (1"= 25.4 mm.)

QuotePer,

Glen's website is at www.hotrodsbyglen.com. You can follow the links the his Buick buildup. I think he recently sold it.

Hi Walt,

Maybe some error just for now. I will try it later. Thanks.

Frank (Am I right?)
I was looking at your frameclip site, very informative. I read about the optical illusion with the wheel opening and to move the wheels forward a 3/4".  Is this general or is it only 47 to 55 Chevy truck matter? I'm just curious, as I never heard about it before. And yes, a Camaroclip maybe the right way to go.

QuoteGlen also did a 48 a few years ago. He used a third generation Camaro rear, control arms, torque arm and all.
Enjeno
who is Glen?  Did he have a website? And, yes the Camaro clip have cross my mind but no decision so far. How will the Camaro clip line up with the Buick frame? Is it a close hit or is it a lot of fabrication?

Lynn
Nice to hear. I live in Smoland myself. :D  Do you know the place where your grandmother grew up?

QuoteI certainly agree with you that you can't be too careful about your fluid levels. Better to keep things topped off in that regard.

Yes Walt, thats for sure!

Thanks for the kind words. And enjenjo asks about my rear suspension. Well I got a -77 caprice 10 bolt rear axle. From the beginning I use leaf spring from a 1975 Firebird and drive with that for a while but right now I'm in progress to reconstruct it with 4 link and air ride. And by the way I got it all cover at http://web.telia.com/~u47704801/

New guy.
I like to introduce myself. My name is Per Ornberg from Sweden and I'm a real fan of Hot Rods and Custom cars. I was told about this forum from a guy on the SRS. And I hang around a while and really like what I see. I'm 48 years old and have own American cars whole my life and will continue to the bitter end :D   My current project is a 1941 Buick Special Sedanette with 327 Chevy and 350 turbotrans.
