Rodder's Roundtable / Chevy C1500 5 speed trans swaps?
December 04, 2012, 10:12:13 AM
Thanks for the replies. Now, does anyone know if the 5 speed from an S-10, 4.3 fit? Also, is the late 4 cyl trans the same as a 4.3 trans?

Rodder's Roundtable / Chevy C1500 5 speed trans swaps?

My daily driver (1998 Chevy C1500, V-6 with a 5 speed) trans took a dump yesterday. I believe it has the Getrag trans in it. Does anyone here know if any of the other 5 speeds are a bolt in replacement? Thanks, guys.

Mine broke off, so I drilled it out and put a pipe bushing in then a pipe nipple. Works fine.

I like nostalgia as much as the next guy, but what these guys are paying for obsolete speed parts is crazy! Then there is the cost for a built flathead (or any earlier engine). You can spend a fortune to go really slow. For me, no thanks!

I'd go with a long flexable, yet kinda stiff block.

I'd stick with what you have. I had a 3:50 with a four speed in my coupe with the 31" tires and was very pleased with the choice.

I had a Cheetah a long time ago. I got rid of it after it ate my neighbor.

That's a cool car alright. The only bid thus far is $100k and it hasn't met reserve. I wonder what the reserve is. That's a lot of $$ for an incomplete car.

A typical Ford starter relay works well for the use that Wayne described.
