All that because the power steering pump is noisy?    GPster

Well I will stop the guessing early on.  I was a little disappointed but I did not break anything other than the power steering belt came off.  It spun a little off the line but the engine sounded good and it went straight.  I will look at the plugs tomorrow, and then mess with fuel jetting, the timming, and see if I can get the tires to hook up.  2 runs at 13.1 each.  I think with some improvements 12.5 is possible.  Not as good as I had hoped, but still okay for basically a warm street car. We will probably go back to test and tune in a couple of weeks.  Stay tuned.

It was a fun night for a guy who will be 71 years old in a couple of days. :D

Quote from: "kb426"How many mph?

It was a little over a 100.

I already have a short list of changes to the tune and I plan to move the shift point up and launch harder. This was truly a test and tune.  I had not driven it at high speed and I wanted to see how it handle and stopped. Running a DOT tire, and running a stock cast exhaust through mufflers slows it down some.

Curiosity got me doing a little research this morning.  In the height of the muscle car area, around 1970, 454 Chevelles, 440 6 pack mopars and other high performance cars ran in the low 13s.  At the time, I thought they were fast.

That was what I expected. I misplaced my Moroso slide calculator but from watching for years, 13 flat is around 102 to 105. Any progress on the power steering?

I have the kit to lower the pressure.  I will work on that next.

We watched the Space X rocket launch... I must admit till last wednesday, I was not really up to speed on what Space X had built in recent decade.  I saw news reports, just did not pay attention.

My wife made a comment about the new space suits that stuck with me. Plenty of blank material for advertising like Nascar race suits.  I see that happening.

Did some testing with 220volt welder Mig on 18 ga metal...  Fixing to build the firewall in my 1948 Simca.

Most of the welds look good..  I got one weld  a bit off.

Today was the first time I have done any amount of welding in quite some time. And I am using my new welder instead of the old one. It took some time to figure out the settings on this welder, but I think I about have it down. Too many options on the new one, I had to figure out what they do. I went so far as to read the directions. I was happy with what I did today. When I started yesterday I thought maybe I was going to have to get Josh to weld it for me. Very Happy

I am repairing a spot on the 54 pickup where a really bad repair was previously made to the frame.
