I did some more chores for my brother in his house today (friday) ..  Electrical stuff: switches installed, cover plates removed.  Why  Do people paint over electric outlets and cover plates?  Kripes , what a mess

His wife mentioned she wanted the carpet removed.  It is awful..  I pulled out my utility knife and BOOM .. Carpet was flying out the front door. Padding under the carpet was removed too. A clean slate for tile.

I installed a 3rd brake light on the 58. Geez, what a job. So much trim to remove just to get to the wiring in the left rear 1/4 panel.  Next is the 63. Last year, I was driving the 63 Galaxie uptown, and was stopped to make a left turn, with my signal on. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a PU truck swerving to his right to avoid hitting me. I had been stopped for quite a while, and if he couldn't see those huge tail lights, how would he see the little 58 Chevy tail light? The Galaxie will be much easier.

Those have been required on new cars for 35 years now.

I replaced the rear gasket on the GT's downpipe yesterday.

Scoop looks tough as nails on your Ranger, John. 8)  That little truck is a force to be reckoned with, ain't it?

Today is our 45th  wedding anniversary. Months ago we had planned a special day including a formal dinner at a special restaurant on the St. Clair River, in my wife's hometown. The restaurant had been closed for about three years while undergoing a $3 million renovation, a spectacular place with a million dollar view. It opened early this year.  Well Covid has seen to that, so it's porch repairs and a couple steaks on the grill for our special day. Hopefully Queen Gretchen will stop extending our lockdown, yesterday it got extended to mid June, so we can celebrate a special day the way we planned.

Congratulations on the anniversary.

Our 47th anniversary  is monday.  Wife usually likes a steak dinner at Outback Steak house.  Truth be told: She likes the blooming onion and the ice cream desert. The steak is good, I know what she really wants.  LOL

The Outback near us is still on take out service.  We tried that a few weeks ago, the food lost something in transport.  We will wait for them to open back up to regular service if that ever happens.

My friend that drives the 1,000 foot freighter was going by today on the way to Duluth. I went over to the river to watch and wave at him passing by. There is a local guy that videos many of the freighters with a drone as they pass into or out of the Lake. Here is a link to todays passing of the Mesabi Miner as she passes out of the St. Clair River into Lake Huron under the Blue Water Bridges. Canada s on the starboard side, U.S. n the port side. The video is faster than actual speed, about double, you can tell as a truck passes over the bridge as the boat goes under. https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FjDUkQVsXey8%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR1bHudbPycgX7Ni6c3LzkVDeECq3P-QOgWRWYK83J79AkQmxhWO00QMTWQ&h=AT2Za8_CUqm1hHUZ5laejNBjDFKQ-AogrSYGQEfji872NXcxRAnbaPkilBW0KABn00yTVF3QetW4ymqwqtErb0T6axcn99PpRyUGs2XUafwZ9Eht29PhYi0DjqiOmx9sw4jEExc9Il_cvDUOvdIqmsG40PE

Strange being home this weekend. Normally we would have been in Indianapolis for Carb Day on Friday and all the activities leading up to the 500. This would have been my wife's 41st consecutive 500 and my 18th consecutive one. At least NBC is playing the 2019 Indy 500 today at 2:00 ET. The 500 has been postponed until August 23rd, hopefully it will happen and our consecutive streaks can continue if fans are allowed. IndyCar has a contingency to postpone it again until October if fans aren't allowed in August.  Live IndyCar resumes June 6th with a night race at Texas without fans.

Indy is a special place and a special race.  I have not been able to watch it on tv for many years, because I have been at the Mid America NSRA event at Springfield, MO.   I will try to watch some of todays broadcast.  Even though it is last years event, it will be new to me.

I bought power steering fluid at a national chain auto parts store yesterday.  I asked for power steering fluid to be used in a GM power steering pump.  Today I drained and flushed the system and changed out the power steering pump.  As I was filling the system I noticed that the fluid was the color of transmission fluid and it was labeled for Dexrtron VI.  Years ago I remember using transmission fluid in power steering pumps but I checked online anyway, and sure enough this fluid is not to be used for power steering.  They gave me the wrong stuff.  I then bought the right stuff and then drained and flushed the system again. Fired the engine and everything is fine except the used pump that I installed has a bent shaft and the pulley wobbles  So tomorrow I will drain the fluid and replace the pump again.

The fluid temperatures are still high but not as high as previously.  Tomorrow we plan a return road test before I disassemble the system again.  That will tell me whether the problem is the steering box.

Happy Holiday :D

The spindle in my old drill press had a less than wonderful fit on the taper where the chuck fits. I disassembled it expecting to find a short adapter in there. Turns out the spindle was one piece. I put it in the lathe and recut the taper. It's all together and much better. :)
