Quote from: "chimp koose"So any guesses what the 460 Ranger will run?

I have no idea.  I have not hit it hard at all yet, but just a mild test from a rolling start in drive, it felt good.  It drives great and feels like it has something, but the only way to know is with some time slips.  Guessing I am going to say 12 second quarters, but I would like to go mid 11's.  I do not think that will happen.

put a bottle on it :) . 12's are fun, I had a 63 acadian that went 12's . I hope my T coupe will run in the 12's when its done . Just working on its motor now. 8)

Fun with motors today. I used a dial indicator and a fully degreed balancer to figure out my unmarked cam . .474 lift 235@.050 int 255@ .050 exh  108 lobe separation  108 intake centerline as near as i can figure. Its a solid lifter cam . I have flat top pistons w/.048 deck height . I am using a .015 head gasket . I have tried 4 degrees advance on the cam and a 1.6 rocker w/.015 lash for a total of .490 lift and I am not feeling the love ! No piston to valve clearance . I have patriot freedom heads w/63cc chambers and 2.02 intakes and the valves make contact  @10 degrees btdc and @5 degrees atdc . I am going to try a 1.5 rocker but not expecting any big change . If I still dont get what I need then the cam goes in straight up and we try again ! I was hoping to use the 1.6 on the intakes and 1.5 on the exhaust , we will see if that will work.  I was kind of surprised that there was no P/V clearance as the last time I did a similar cam .480 230@.050 109 l/c I had lots of P/V room. That was with small chamber factory heads 1.94/1.5 valves . I am sitting right at 10:1 CR with things as they are and do not want to go to a thicker head gasket as I am right at .063 piston to head . I really do not want to start cutting pistons either . Oh yeah I got caught off guard when the intake ports did not come close to lining up . These heads are drilled for both normal and vortec intakes so I thought my eddy performer would work . With intake in place I can still see into the intake ports on the head . Raised intake ports ! I have found another intake to buy that should work but it looks like I will be grinding to port match. Bearings should be in tomorrow and hopefully I can find the P/V room I need as well tomorrow.

Well ,I could not get proper clearance even with the 1.5 rocker . Pulled the head and had a real close look . The edge of the valve is just making contact with the edge of the piston eyebrow. I took a caliper and marked .060 back from the edge of the eyebrow . Took another valve and scribed around the .060 with the valve as a template . After some grinding I now have .130" P/V clearance on the intake without taking the valve relief any deeper , just opening up the radius . Layout blue shows the same issue with the exhaust . I have clearance on the exhaust , just not enough ! Back to the grinder!

I aired the tire and greased the bearings in the wheel barrow wheel.  I hate to watch the wife struggle. :D  We worked outside today.  Warmest day so far I believe.

I am making up a set of plug wires for one of the projects here. I did not have enough plug boots in stock. So I called around at parts stores, and no one within 20 miles of me has any boots in stock. I ended up ordering from Summit, should be here tomorrow.

It got up to 83 degrees here today. :) I took 2 bikes out for a ride. The front main seal on the 88 5.0 has been leaking. I pulled the balancer and found out that the repair sleeve wasn't long enough. It also cut the outer lip on the seal. Once again too cheap is just that. I installed a felpro sleeve and a new seal and I'm confident that is fixed. I've been driving the 78. It runs fine. Do I need to tell anybody how much that 130 hp. six excites me. :) If I don't sell it, the 88 5.0 will probably be installed. The virus has shut down most of non-essential business so selling anything is probably not going to happen for a while. That leaves me with too much time to create new improvements. :)

Finished grinding out the valve clearance on my motor . Still waiting for bearings . I think I am going to un shroud the valves as they are pretty close to the machine work on the chamber . Apparently you could order these heads with the unshrouding done from factory or not . These heads I purchased used and the valves were never un shrouded. I wonder if the PO knew about that and sold these as they were not making the power he wanted . I know the PO went to brodix heads after these . These are barely used at all . My son in law has an identical set of patriots and ONE head is unshrouded , the other not !

Friday morning:  light rain falling here (again)

Been cypherin on my 1962 Ford Falcon wire harness. It is 58 yrs old.

I added a 6 circuit separate fuse block years ago when I was drag racing the Falcon. For fuel pump , cooling fan, electric water pump.

Returning the car to mostly street use, I am thinking I need to rewire the car.  Upgrade some wire sizes since I have added brighter headlights, electric wipers will be added.

The OEM fuses are attatched the back side of the light switch. I think there is 2 or 3 fuses.

I have this 12 circuit block in stock.. Some GXL wire in stock from Del City

I can see some of the top of the work bench. I spent way too long cleaning the p.s. and a.c. mount for the 88 5.0 engine. I removed the power steering pulley and pump. It had been leaking a real long time. All of the parts that belong with that engine are on it now. Less mess is my goal, again. :)

Yes... I was looking at my main work bench the other day. The thought "What The Phart is wrong with you? (me)"  I started putting stuff away, throw stuff away..

Still sorting tools out that I brought home from work along with the home tools.  Amazing! How many "single" sockets I have. Short, deep , 12 point, 6 point sockets, adapters, reducers. Various  Brands of sockets I have no idea where I found them.

I had no idea I had so many 1/4 inch drive sockets, extensions, wobblys.

I put a Milwaukee M12 ratchet (tool only) on eBay, it was 8 months old. In 3 hours I had over 300 views on it. No sale ...  So: 2 days later with 700 views:  I put a 3.0ah battery and M12 charger with it. Raised the price. Sold!

Other than that, Nothing is selling for me on eBay. A friend in WI says he has been using Facebook market Place to sell misc car parts from his projects.

How many hat seals for TH400 dipstick tubes?

Today I am waiting to hear some hail. The inop GTP is insured for that. If it re-re-re totaled, and my tax return gets here on a day it isn't raining, and the president just hands me $1,200 in a couple months, maybe I can get my crapola blown DD back.

Going to get the Impala out of storage today, should be up to about 50 today and I am tired of not seeing the car.  Might have snow again this week, but spring snow and it generally melts away during the day.  For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to find some parts for the Oldsmobile.  I went out to the parts cars and got a couple off and could not make them work.  Found all the missing stuff yesterday and the trunk strut rods are exactly the same as the spares.  Guess I have to figure how to put them on correctly.
