boss around with camancho wheels is my vote

Right on 8)

You might have noticed that the twist in the spokes is backwards on one Camancho. Editing shortcut. Those are all Boyds wheels by the way.

I like the Camanchos too, but the twist no. Don't think the twist belongs on this but I don't like twist on many rides at all, especially classics.

I would pick the boss-around and Griffins from the selection given. Haven't gotten feedback from the powers that be.

The bossaround version is slightly different from the first, with the addition of a tiny stripe for visual balance at the front fender-to-extn gap. I knew the profile needed a forward element and when I got happy with it's shape and proportion, I noticed that it goes a long way toward helping the rear fender stripe look at home by giving the eye the other end of that line to connect to. That emphasizes the horizontal aspect of the overall truck shape to help it look lower.

Professing about visual design

In discussions with a roomful of designers (like at school), verbalizing the logic behind a proposition is an essential skill, as is good listening to verbalization of others' concepts.

I think the bossaround has some things going for it that others like as well. First, the unique wraparound on back of cab which I suspect will be a help in countering the skyscraping original roof height from a rear view.

The tapering of all the stripes in that design, along with the shapes at the ends, provides a great deal of implied motion while preserving the long look as opposed to tall. And thats where the little tick on the front fenders comes in, urging the eye to consider making a full trip down the whole side.

I believe the abbreviated horizontal section tunes the overall aggressiveness to somewhere between sports car and work horse while giving a proper nod to a Boss 302 theme. Overall, in addition, something about it strikes me as kind of old school too, but I can't put my finger on it.

Y'know what though? The FX4 style which begins under the door window seems every bit as relevant to me and sidesteps a lot of what bothers me about the Boss 302.

My vote, not that it counts, would be for the Columbus with the FX Short.

I do like the sound of that one. Both you guys' votes each count as much as my pick. Only difference is I throw in my own ideas where they may apply.

Left the phone at work so if I did render your votes I couldn't post them until Tuesday evening. But I like both those combos and have a couple more ideas. Honestly I made my own wheel pick within the Boyd's selection and threw it out the instant I saw them on it. That just shows to go ya that without seeing these combos and layouts it really is a shot in the dark even with an active imagination.

It is also tough for me to remember to put myself in the customer's shoes and face the decisions. The stacked and labeled options as shown above is best for picking and voting but within a limited range of options. Far and wide exploration seeds ideas and adaptations grow from that, and thats where the good stuff happens. A visual thumbnail emerges and as that is brought into focus, all but one of each idea species must die. By execution, of the ones being immortalized.

Whew, I about slipped into a classroom there. What I mean is if I look at a set of options to be presented and can't find a favorite, the ideas aren't strong enough and I'm not done exploring. But I get suprised plenty, good and bad. Favorable responses indicate progress and can flip the switch from find to develop. Like the sea captain character on the Simpsons, watching passengers board for a long voyage... "Arr. Not a looker among 'em. T'will be a long six months at sea."

That Firebird bottom looks nite-n-day different now, all shot. Started taking some pics but owner and boss walked up to look and discuss so I high tailed it. Some stuff I didn't like didn't get to go away but, well even Panteras don't get everything fixed and I'll just fade into unintelligible mumbling and trail off mid sentence...

Looks much more gooder though  );b(

I can still play with stripes and stuff tonight. May, a little. Wheels are job #1. Anxious to get to the easily rendered combination-selecting phase, that ought to move us closer to a final version but alas, even that will probably be developing clear up until booth day.

More to come. Keep 'em coming. "I don't like any of them well enough to vote for" helps least but is a valid "no" vote in my personal ballot box. If only political polls were as such, haha. No's are as important in my development, and can be more elusive than the yes / like. Those who just don't love the vehicle make / model are excused. You all have a degree of influence without duty and my thanks to all who pitch in just for kicks.  :)

I did replace that tank brace closest to you. Well, most of it.

Complete silence on the wheel pick thing.

The columbus style would be my pick of the lot. The design of the wheel is not the best looking of that style. There are many salt flat style wheels on the market. However, most of this truck is pushed towards more modern and not an older style so my wheel pick would be thrown out. The us mags rambler would be something that I would try. I almost bought a set for my 51 as an alternate setup.

Thems what some call wagon wheels.  :)

I always liked Cyclone Western style because General Lee. I can usually dig five slot dish style on the same rides. But I am unflavored, don't have much Charlie Tuna kind of taste.

Now for something completely irrelevant-

Parts for that are painted. Shes a roller.

Finally got a tires-on pic of this thing, which I think I covered here. Update. Looks like theres room now.

F1 man is supposed to be by today. I am supposed to pin him down on inner fender treatment. Supposedly. Maybe activity can result. I still just have my one idea about extending stockers and making them match. Tubbing out back seems to be firmly decided but I don't think I am to mention roll pan or tail lights. :?

Looks to be a beautiful Friday so probably won't get much done. :)

Owner came by today and we fine tuned the look. Pearled white with charcoal and orange stripes around just the cab. Wheel choice down to two. He wants to go with my inner fender suggestons and to do something to close up the gap under the hood nose molding.

Bottom wheel the twisted spoke looks too modern.

idrivejunk

I agree with that, and the stripe pick. It'll probably turn out pretty sharp. :)

Well this is incomplete but does show the relevant elements, stripe location and wheel type. Boss said OK to stop there for now. :) Theres a million ways to handle the hood stripes and accent but with it just like this, the stripes will kinda change shape as you walk around it which might be nifty.

I can dig it. I see a pretty together look going on here-

What happened to the other grille? Just a previous drawing that was easier to use?
TEAM SMART

The recent stripe and wheel pics came from bringatrailer dot com on a 51 truck ad. They are edited on a computer, no drawing involved. But I say incomplete because the grille in the ad pic, I left alone because we're not deciding on a grille. The high front quarter angle shot found and used was selected for being easy to show the stripe with. Due to the overly laborious complexity of creating a shiny looking truck image from scratch, I chose to just represent the color, stripe, and wheel combo without the fairly intense difficulty of working from an image thats all either bare metal glare, confusing shop shadows, and different colors of primer. Which is all I can get from the truck. The wheel doesn't look like its on the truck, the indication of bumperette is a joke... etc. These images are glanced at if I'm lucky, before being forgotten. So theres no point in doing some thirty hour rendering, know what I mean? :)

They looked at it though. I believe the owner response was "More decisions". I just depicted what we discussed in person, and in a timely manner but without being asked or expecting anything in return. I didn't ask anyone for permission to download and modify the image. My objective with it was to find out if thats really how he wants the stripe, but to also show the much cooler neutral color pointed out to me the other day. Along with the grey and accent colors, alongside a grey accented wheel. As opposed to the very warm neutral colors previously shown.

Because the side views of the stripe didn't tell me a thing about how the walking up to the truck like usual... view... was going to be good or bad. I am wanting to use old images of straight-on front and rear views to show the latest plan as well. But nobody is asking for that at this time. Those could show us whether we want any accents on the nose. But all that stuff isn't cared about, really. I don't want to squander spare time and nobody cares much one way or the other if theres images. I was personally curious so I made that one and quit when I could envision it, and almost didn't mention it.
