Quote from: "58 Yeoman"Yeah, looks like they could've spent more time on the tailgate. Isn't Durango a Chryler product?

Sure is, its the Dakota based SUV. The conversion company picked the name is what I read. Using a wagon bumper and lamps might have worked better but would have needed those quarters. Probably why they did it this way.

George, that's the 1st one of those I've seen. Knowing how much fastbacks are bringing now, somebody might be cringing somewhere. :)

Would you guys cringe less if you knew it was a brownbottom saved, fastbacked coupe? I um... thought I thought it was kinda neat until I scrolled down. Social acceptance is important. Hatchback flashed across my screen a moment after I saw. The one in the pic is yuck for sure. KB, I know you must have a fresh box of sick sacks for the new project, pass me one and I'll try to stare at el Caballero all hateful-like. See what comes up.  :)

Back when they came out with the fast back in 65 A buddy of mine bought one of the first ones in Toledo. He picked it up at the dealer, drove it a little over a mile to the service station I was working at. He had to make a left turn into the station, while waiting for oncoming traffic, another car blasted it in the rear, never touched the brakes. It slid down the road a couple hundred feet, less than 5 miles on it and it was totaled. He and his wife were both injured, it took them over a year to recover. He never got it home.

About the same time there was a wrecking you just west of me that was buying every wrecked Mustang he could get his hands on. He was buying body in white fast back bodies direct from Ford, sending them to local body shops with a wrecked doner car, and selling fast backs when they were hard to get at premium money. He ended up doing about 25 before the bloom was off the Lilly.

My boss has one real fastback shell, so rotted its seriously past consideration. That red and white one I worked on recently is a conversion. I know you'll love this part... its called an Eleanor kit.

Last time I checked, that car was second gen and mustard color with a wicked phone pole scuff on one side.    Wonder what a Machero looks like or if that translates to anything bad.

On a side note... I tried changing a color on a car pic.... oh man yeah, thats advanced editing. I didn't have much luck. Been warmer outside so less inside play.

But... Frank, if you want to see Mustang front on a Durango I'm hip. But which front end? Does Fairmont share the cowl, doors, windshield, A pillars, floor, etc with Mustangs same year?

The cowl line is the same for both. The door line is the same. The wheel opening position is the same for both. There may be a difference in the core support. I have installed a EXP core support on an Escort so we could install the EXP front end on it. The Fox Mustang body is the same 79 to 93.

I can't stand the Durango tailgate, it looks too Mr Potato Head. How about using the Futura roof / bed line like Durango but with Fairmont wagon tails and gate... gate pillars chopped off and hinges moved to the side? Its gonna be more upright in back but might look more natural. On a Mustang. Thinking out loud.

Well dadgummit. Put in at least a half hour and can't even find a usable pair of pics for this idea even if I did it black and white.

What I did find was a wicked looking black Futura with an LTD II front end, smoked headlight covers and cowl hood. In a post on rancheros.com or something, suggesting that would also look good on a Durango. I concur. Whether LTD or Mustang would be best is subjective though, the more Durango pics I see, the more ducky they look. To me, that low side angle is the best part it has going, followed by the front quarter angle. The whole rest of it stinks in my nose, so...

Hey, but a 69-70 Mustang fastback Ranchero'ed intrigues me. Y'know what else I thought of? Late 60s Dart. Duster also. Maybe.

Problem with Mustang front on Durango is mainly just needing a matching angle that shows front end. Side views in same color are remedial editing which is all I can handle.
