Not much done this weekend, I was working on Fat Cat's trailer. I did make the heat stove for the intake manifold, and roughed out the oil filter bracket. It needs some finish work yet. I also assembled the fuel tank, with the sender and filler neck. I also got the front springs assembled and installed.

I was just looking at how slick the steering box area is. That paint on the frame looks nice, should live long. The tank and filter bracket, also lookin good. Aren't you glad you heard that ping? Just checking in  8)

I am still waiting on the replacement spring bolt. I have called them four times, and all four times they said they would ship it the next day. Today the owner called them   It should be here by 10 am tomorrow. :D

In the mean time I installed the front axle and shocks, rear springs and rear end, with the broken bolt holding one spring temporarily. I only have one mounting bracket for the rear shocks, so I started making a second so I can get them installed.

I made the fuel cell straps out of stainless steel strap, I have to drill a couple holes and they will be done.

The rear crossmember has to be notched for the fuel filler

I have some stuff done since the last update. I cut the rear cross member for fuel filler clearance, and touched up the paint. I made a trailer hitch for it and sent it out for powder coating, I cleaned the engine, and painted it. Today I started assembling the accessories to the engine.

I went over to the body shop, and rolled the cab outside and took a few pictures. It's painted Hot Rod black.

I picked out a color for powder coating the interior trim the original brown, the coater will let me know when it comes in. I still have to get some plastic dye to color the headliner and kick panels.

I think you could get spoiled by just going to the body shop to get your stuff! :)
Not having the dusty mess would be really nice. Do you have an estimate for completion?

Not really. The owner is not in a big hurry, and I am juggling several projects at the same time, some of them off topic, so it's a little early to give a completion date.

A milestone today, the engine is bolted back in place, and it fit the first try.

It will be interesting to hear the owners report after his first drive. I would think he will be very surprised at the end result. :)

enjenjo, Did you make the bellhousing to transmission adapter plate? If so what did you use to cut the big hole. I was looking at something similar but with an extension on the top. It won't fit in any lathe I have access to because of the upper extension. I was looking at a 4-5" boring head for the mill, but don't know if that is the best option.

enjenjo

I did not make that one, but I have made them. I rough out the hole with a hole saw, and use a Vernier boring bar in the mill to finish it. If I need an OD sticking out on the bell housing side, I make a stepped ring on the lathe, heat the plate and freeze the ring, and install it that way. I do the center hole first, then transfer the bolt holes from that.

More done. Not much time to work on it this week so far. I installed the flywheel, and clutch, bolted the transmission up, and measured for the driveshaft. I installed the alternator and bracket, it's a Patrick's piece. Today I installed the fuel pump and starter, that went well, then I started on the Fenton headers, not so good. I had to grind the end of one to clear the mounting bolts, and of the 8 bolts, only four would work without modifying the mounting clamps. I have two of the clamps modified, I haven't quite figured out the other two, but I will.
