I have a new project. It's a 46 Chevy pickup the owner has had since 1965, his grandfather bought it new. I am doing a 235, T5, and open drive rear. Six lug disc brakes with a power booster, Toyota steering box, and wiring it for 12 volts. It should be a fun project. I'll post pictures as I go.

Sounds like it will definitely be more fun to drive!

He is having the body done too, but I am not involved in that.

A fun project! Sounds like a friend of mine, had an all original '41, said he wanted to leave it stock, but finally got tired of driving at 45 mph. Had the SBC put in and my brother and I put in an Explorer rear in it, practically a bolt in. Have fun

I have some work to show. I started pulling the old engine and trans, but decided I needed to do some fitting before I went too far.I am installing an aluminum fuel tank behind the rear end, using a RCI 17 gallon tank. The rear end itself is a 62 Chevy pickup rear end It's done except for the brakes, I am waiting on emergency brake cables.

I fitted the bell housing to the trans, and the pedal bracket to the bell housing. I had to remove some knots on the transmission case to get the pedal bracket to fit. I'll make another bracket off the rear of the transmission case to support the pedal bracket.

I am changing the steering box, so I had to support the bottom of the column off the floor of the cab. So, I used CAD to figure out the shape of the bracket.  I am making the bracket out of .090" steel. I will take some pictures of the brush assembly that will make the stock horn work when I get to it

Judging by the tasty beverage stack,     you must be preparing refreshments for your new class of CAD students... us!   :D

Nice pics and nice tank and axle. Nice bracket whittlings, too. Looking forward to the rest of the story.

Frank:

Did the pick-ups use the same diff pumpkin as the '55-'64 cars?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me!

No, it is bigger than the car diff. It is actually the same as the pickup diff used from 1941 to 1955 first series, except converted to open drive. The 55 to 69 truck  diff will actually fit in the 41 to 55 housing, but the spring perches have a pivot built in to reduce binding with the torque tube.

The Black Widow 57 Chevys had the truck diff, and front hubs for racing, and had 6 lug wheels.

I did some more on pulling the engine, I made the pieces that I needed to do with the engine in. I should have it out tomorrow. I made another bracket to support the brake pedal on the side of the transmission, it actually picks up more bolts than the original. I cut all the parts on my iron worker, took less than 15 minutes for them all. I finished up the column support, and tacked it to the column. I ordered custom emergency cables from controlcables.com, I was pleasantly surprised at the price. Much cheaper than I could make them, and no stock cables would fit.

Yes, it is sketchy. First you make a sketch, then you cut it out, then you tape back on the pieces you should not have cut off. After two or three tries, it fits pretty good.

Not much done today. I did get the engine and trans pulled out, and the doors off,  I had some help, but I had to help others with their projects too.
