The 974 pit is clear down in an area about half way between the speed trap (?) and the return road.  GPster

Well, I just took an hour writing a very long and detailed update on today's hi-lites just to have the internet here at the motel take a crap and the whole post is gone.  So, with the wind out of my sails I'll just say that we only made one run today which was planned to be 210 mph to check deployment of the new chutes.  It actually was 210.3 and one chute didn't open because the release cable was a little too sharply routed.  The run did start out with a thrill though.  Right after the Stude left the push truck Hooley nailed it and it went sideways a couple of times.  No, we didn't have a camera handy but just picture one of Wild Willie Borsch's starting line antics and that's sort of what we saw....lots of fuel burning noise,  tire smoke and yes, you could read the lettering on the side of the car.

Anyway back at the pits we rerouted the cable and added 200 lbs to the back of the car to fix the issues.  That took a couple of hours and we got back in line early in the afternoon.  They had a full docket here so the lines were long but the weather was very pleasant and we did a lot of talking to friends and strangers.  Unfortunately we were within one car of making our second run when they shut the meet down at 6pm.

We left the car at the starting line and will be there at 6AM to re-prepare for our second run.  Such is racing.....

Charlie and I returned home about 9PM last night, great trip.
Hooley set a new record at 225 with a 7.
I think others may post some pictures and more detailed reports.
Some people try to turn back their odometers
Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.
I\'ve traveled a long way and some of the
roads weren\'t paved.

What a great week-end we had.  There were minor issues with the chute hardware and the tach.  Every thing else worked flawless. The engine still runs.  As reported earlier we got 3  good runs in with a best of 225.7xx.

Thank you pit crew for helping me do this. This racing can't run with out you and I appreciate it.  We do have a good time even if we were't racing.  The ECTA and all their volunteers puts on a good race for us. Thank them every chance you get.

It is time to start planning for Bonneville Speed Week 2013.  It will be here before we know it.

Well, I got home and gone and back again. Left Wilmington at 12:00 so I could get back to Marietta before dark. Got home at 5:00 PM even after a mishap. Traveling on a state route outside Hillsboro on a 2 lane road with a double yellow line, signaled and slowed for a RH turn, half-way into the turn and some guy drove on the burm to pass me on the right. He just caught my front bumper, bent it straight out from the center, and broke all the plastic around my right headlight/directional with his 2003 Honda. No one hurt and he was cited. His Allstate Value Plan agent called me Monday and told me how scared-up the whole side of his car was (like his whole problem was that I was there) and I gave them my statement (that was recorded) Friday on the phone while we were in Carson City. Nothing in the mail from them when we got home yesterday. Good Sunday morning though. I got to the event a little late and was just pulling into the gate as 974 was going down the track at 225 MPH. Saw BOTH chutes open. Thanks, GPster

It's about time to get something started with the 572 motor. I like to give my motors a name. This one is named Moore Cubes engine. After it had been Bob Moore's engine.
I checked the compression with the pistons and rods that came with engine. It was 10.05 to 1  which is OK for the blower. I called BDS about the gas ported pistons and was told not to use them.  It was short 2 pistons and 3 rods.  My best bet now is to figure what would be the best piston and rod length and buy a new set.
The crank came back looking like a brand new one.

I am going to Indy Dec 6,7,and 8th to the IMIS trade show with Doug Lee. I may be able to find some answers there.

I wonder why? Especially in light of this article which convinces this builder that HP gain is available with their use.

Maybe because your engine is supercharged and running alcohol.

Slocrow,
That ex planes the gas porting very well.  I guess it has something to do with the blower pressures.  I, being ignorant must rely on those I think know something.  ???? Still gathering info.

So you are thinking higher compression, slower blower speeds this time?  Are you still thinking a Power Charger type blower?

Doug,
I am looking at blowers, tubrs and pro charges.  I have a 871 blower on the small block now and was thinking about using it.  What I should do  is sell the small block as a package and start new. I dought that I'll do that. I am not a very good sales man.  Sumner would like to see tubros because of the inter coolers and higher boosts.  This makes a lot of scents to me too.

I like the turbo idea. It seems to me that is where all of the big builders are headed. I doubt they would all be going that direction if there wasn't a good reason. Everything I read on the hi-tech builds now involves turbos. The learning curve will be tough for a bunch of rednecks though.
Another advantage of the turbo is visibility out of the car. There isn't much more than a peep hole with the supercharger. The use of a turbo or turbos will reduce the scoop size and allow you to see out of the car much better.
Only 8 months until Speed Week!

Hi Beck,
Sum, and I have had some long talks about the turbos vs roots vs Pro Charger.   I am getting a price quote from Pro Charger and one from a Co. in St. Louis that does the blow through turbos.  I talked about HP's around 1,400.   It seems 1,400 HP is low and real easy to get with only one carb and 1,800 HP ISN'T OUT OF THE QUESTION.  That could be more than we could use right now. The blow through system is getting looked at real hard.  I will visit with them next week in Indy.
At Indy I need to visit with the piston people for Turbo pistons.   I also want to visit with clutch people. I feel there could be a problem in that area

John,Sum and I are looking at the roll cage and the frame structure to see if there could be safer improvements made..

Here is a blow through bbc setup about 90 miles from me.  The numbers don't mean much to me, but might be interesting to you Hooley.

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the link. That is a clean install.
We are leaning toward that kind of system only with twin turbos right now Sum is doing a lot of research on this.  I'll will start ordering the engine parts soon. I can get the engine built with out the add ons.
