Hooley was your Rpm's in the 72-7300 range at 220mph?

Hooley,

A couple of unrelated questions.  Given the correct conditions, can the car go 250 within the length of the course, I know the car is capable on a longer course.  Also, are you going to be pitting for anyone this year at Bonneville?

MikeJ,  That is around where the rpm's were.  I took the data recorder out and have to go on memory .

Doug, I will be there with the Norris Anderson's 898 Studebaker.  We pitted next to them for several years. Are you going to make it.  WsJunk and his brother MoJunk are going to be there for a 10 year reunion from when we all went out the first time.

I am not sure what the top speed would be with the car.  I changed the rear tires and there isn't any spinning going on now.  I will start dropping the weight out next time till it spins the tires i 1st gear.  I am sure there will be a point when too light will be dangerous.   The Transmisson isn't geared for optom performance in the mile.  I didn't use 4 th gear this time. 4th is a .07 over drive. It only drops it 500 rpm's.  We were off quiet a bit on the tune.  Way too fat.  Each pass we leaned it one pill and each time it ran a little faster.  Just not enough time to get it perfect.  We did make more runs Sun morning than we have ever done .  3     The water tank heat was only 200* after the 3 runs.  It would have needed a little rest before making another.

On a another note, The evacuum system seemed to be working good.  I decided to run it this time and in Sept. like it is.

I won't be down this year, but planning on next summer.  I will tell Frank (the Salt Cat guy) to look you up.

Doug,
I visited with Frank at Bonneville. I think they had a resevered spot in impound. It seems that every time I went by Impound the Salt Cat was there going for another record.

I am starting to get the car ready for Wilmington in Sept.  Mounted two new chutes that should work together. We'll test them.  I put 5200# axles under the trailer with the hopes that we won't have to change bearings on the way home.

Your gonna hear it on the RRT before any one else.  I bought a 572 ci Big Block Chevy.  It is a Dart block and heads. The block is a std. deck with a 4.625 bore.  It is a used engine[ all apart] with a mild wound in the block that was fixed. I am taking the crank to see about getting it fixed where a broken rod gouged it.  It is a Callas Stealth crank with a 4.250 stroke. There were boxes and boxes of super race parts that came with it.
What does this all mean?  We're going to Bonneville next year with a AA motor in the Studebaker looking for a personal high speed and maybe a record in AA/BFCC.  I took two years off and that is enough.

There has been a challenge for the Sept. Wilmington meet. I ran into Bob Merickle with the beautiful Nash Metro Comp Coupe And it seems both of us would like to be top speed of the meet. There will be Beer change hands at the end of the meet for the winner. Now if the real fast people or some kid in a Rambler doesn't show up , just maybe, just maybe.

It was quite the year for Frank, I was out of town most of the week and every time I checked my e-mail, there was another posting to facebook by them about impound or a record.  The North of 49 team had a pretty good year also, 2 for sure and I think 3 records for them.  I guess they kicked a bit of Don loose in the chutes for his final ride.

Planning on being down for next year's Bonneville also. Might be bringing a salt virgin along with me.  Odie is planning on coming along also.

Doug, That will be great to see you and Oddie again. Hopefully we won't have to take anything apart this time. And seeing  the excitement of a first timer always renews my own excitement.

I had the crank checked for cracks and it checked OK. I will send it to a crank shaft place in Ohio for repair and straighting. There is about a 1/4 " divot in one rod journal from a broken rod.

2013 will be a good year.

Have they announced the dates for next year yet?  Always seems to take forever to find them.

I've already talked to Hooley but thought I would post here. I am also planning to go back to B'ville in 2013.
It looks like a crew is forming.

Crosley,  I had looked at the small RV idea before. After research I found that what I saved in motel bills by camping in the "new" RV was more than lost in the extra fuel, title, registration, and insurance. It was cheaper to stay in a motel. If you were going to buy an RV anyway it is an idea, but just for B'vill it won't pay.
I am considering driving my PU with a camper shell and roughing it in it. Even that comes close to not making financial sence. My little car gets 37 mpg. My PU gets 15 mpg. It is about a 3300 mile trip for me. Add the comfort of a real bed and a shower and it may be time to reconsider.
The first nights motel is cheap since I arrive for tech in. I would stay about 4 nights in the high $$ range. When I plan the trips I calculate staying a week, but I never do. When planning expenses I often forget the 2 nights motel bill on the trip. The RV does eliminate all the motel locating headaches and you don't have to use the porta-poties.

Let me know if my calculations are way off.

Hooley,

Just checked my facebook and the Salt Cat Guys are at it again.  Ran a 223, and 224 for a record, not sure what class, Frank forgot to post.  Moving to XXO/BGL for a try he said.  That was yesterday at 10:48
