I guess I wasn't paying any attention to this thread...and had been wondering what was happening. Opened it tonight and VIOLA, here it is. I'm happy to see the stretch and agree that should help the stability situation.

Wish there was something I could do from here. Phil and I are making our plans for Speed Week attendance and whatever help we can provide. Phil has bought a Toyota based used motor home which will be our base of operation. If we don't see you before we will see you at Sum's place as usual.

I'm excited!!!

Thanks Charlie,

Sum is working on his web site to post pictures of this change. He hasn't made it public yet but will let every one know when it is.

I made the front engine motor plate. I am studying the exhaust headers now. I am waiting on some roll bar metal to finish the front bracing.
Maybe there is a picture of the motor plate.

Quote from: "Flipper"Are you going to make the front a little more aero too?

During Speedweek 2010, I remember you talking about not wanting to lose the stude look by completely shaving the headlights.  Maybe drop the diameter of the headlight to five inchers and taper the fenders down to match?  I'm not sure what all is legal to do.

How about dagmars like Brock's 52 Buick?  For those that are not sure what I am talking about, check this month's Hot Rod Magazine.

Doug,
Right now we are only going to make it longer.  We may have more on our plate than we can get done.  It has been talked about though.

I heard that you may build an "A" motor for the Studie now , instead of the AA motor

Tony,
We kicked around an A motor but will keep moving forward with the AA motor. I picked up the block  yesterday from the machine shop. They put piston oilers it to spray oil at the bottom of the pistons and the rods.  It is used in blown and turbo apps.  I got a call about the heads [ they are at Dan Topliff's shop in Manhantten ,KS] and he has the extra head studs fixed with some small things left to do.

I ordered two inter coolers and four waste gates.  It seems to go slow right now.

I'll try to attach a picture.

I see the the headers are pointed to the front. Did you make those for the turbo set up?  Did you find any salt damage when you extended the frame?

Hooley

Mike.
The headers are pointed to the front for the turbos. The turbos were ordered yesterday and should be next week sometimes.  I am sure I will have to modify the headers some to get what we want.

When I cut the frame apart I only found outside surface rust damage and very little of that. We have yearly inspected ,clean and cover them. The last year to the salt I had covered them with POR 15.  That is tough stuff.

I have been working on extending the steering today. As usually There is a shortage of something. This time it is the tubing.

Sumner has gotten his web site with the 2013 changes to the 974.

The tubros came in today and look big to me. Sum and  Ws Junk are coming by sometime soon for a brain storm on how all this is going to hook up and work.

Sumner  and Ruth came by last week-end.  It was a working and planning week-end. NO BRAKES OR NAPES. The turbos and inter coolers are mounted.
The headers I had built won't work with the way it is arranged now. Also they weren't big enough.
The intake and exhaust of the turbos are 5" . that takes up a lot of room. The 2 ft. extra length lets us have a lot of room. I will try to post some pictures.

I'm sitting here with a BIG grin right now.  Great work so far.  I'm real happy for you and anxious to see it. :D
George

Hooley

Me too George.

I finished the headers up today. The wast gates will be added to the header collector area a little later. The inter-coolers are mounted. I just have to fill in the blanks between every thing.  John is working on the Flat Cad right now and making progress with the new front end.

Back to work,
