The plan is for Shelby, Fatcat, Brother Love and I to show up sunday morning. Better late than never.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

Do you need any one for Friday morning?  If so I'd get to Cincinnatt on Thursday. If not I would travel at my leasure on Friday and maybe stop by on the way to Cinn. .GPster

I'll not be there. Drove that direction for 1 1/2 hour this morning and the sun and the heat are more than my eyes can stand. If I made it there I probably wouldn't be able to see well enough to be any help and I'd be looking at driving beck home into the sun on Monday. I'll keep checking this site for good numbers because it is faster than the ECTA site. GPster

Well today was an interesting one.  Temperature was over 100 degrees and humid but there was a gentle breeze so it was bearable.  We got the car in line to run early and I was back in the pits with Ken and Charlie hoping to catch a video of Hooley's first run.  There was a decent field of cars but not too many so the wait wasn't too long.  You can always tell when 974 is coming because it is about the baddest sounding car there.  We heard the roar and saw the orange Studebaker come roaring through the heat waves.  A strong first gear then......silence as the Stude coasted by.  When he broke the timing lights the speed was a blinding 35mph.  Long story short, he lost all electrical and after a quick check Hooley found a corroded connector....probably years of Bonneville salt related.

Problem was quickly fixed and it was back to the staging lanes.  The officials were watching this run to make sure there wasn't any parachute problems after the tangle problem in April.  The car made a decent run at 206 mph but there still was a chute issue which will be solved tomorrow by using just one chute.  The fuel mixture was still the same as April when the temp was in the 40's and Hooley said it felt  rich so he made it a little leaner and got back in line just in time for a strong thunderstorm to pass through which took out most of the standing canopies, including ours.  Of course the race was called for the day but we're still in line and hope for a good trouble free, FAST run tomorrow morning.  More storms are predicted for tomorrow afternoon but we'll see.  We're having a great time in spite of the "issues".

George,

Thanks for the report, I copied it over to the Landracing site since there were several asking about Hooley.

Here is a video of Hooley rolling off the line on his last run of today which resulted in a 220 MPH run.

Here's a video of a couple of runs I took from the pits.  Poor quality taken with a point and shoot camera that I couldn't hold still.  My excuse is that it's my first time.

The first run is Saturday and you can see two chutes deployed getting tangled with each other.  The second one was the first run Sunday morning and Hooley just popped one chute.  It opened the way it should.

We ran two more runs that I didn't record.  Each time was a tad faster (219 then 220).  It's really hard to get great speeds with the hot humid air we had this weekend IMHO.  The car sounded really good though and with cooler temps I'd bet the speeds will be better.  I think Hooley has a few other changes he might make too.....gearing and such.

Thanks again for the great weekend guys! :D

A great time.  It was good to see everyone.

Here is a shot of what we repaired yesterday morning in the parking lot of our motel.  Hooley had a whole new assembly in the trailer.   It all went back together well, and we were back on the road about 9 o'clock.

Sorry GPster, We left out early Thur morning and missed your message.  We missed you being there. You made a good call the heat was bad.

Thanks every one for being at the Wilmington mile. The help and support is always appreciated and welcomed.  I know it takes sacerfices from each one of you in time ,money  and family time. I really appreciate you doing it. It is getting a lot easier each time we go. We didn't have to take the front off the car once.  The motor still runs and I am making plans for the End of Sept. to go again.

The new tires worked good. There was no spinning of the tires.  Now I can start taking weight out to make MPH.

Thanks George and FatCat for posting the videos.

Our runs were Sat  36 mph coasting through the mile after running it through 1 st gear ;  2nd run 206.069  short run to test chutes. They failed.

Sun. 1st run     217.372 better
       2nd run   219.039    made a pill change
       3rd run    220.305   made a pill change.

We were running fat and trying to sneek up on the fuel ratio. We were getting there but ran out of time. I need to go back and get it right.

What a week-end we had.

Thanks every one,
Hooley

Switched from Prozac to ????     Just kidding,

It would be like a jet change in a carb.  On the Mechanical fuel injection  there is only a [jet] pill in the fuel return line to rich or lean out the fuel mixture. Hope this helps.

    Missed you being there,

Quote from: "HotRodLadyCrusr"What is a pill change??

It is how Hooley changes the mixture ratio of the air and fuel.  It actually changes the fuel that is returning to the tank from the fuel pump.  By allowing more fuel to return to the tank it leans out the motor.  It is a little tricky and you need to go in small steps as if you get to lean it will hurt the engine.

I have Wanda's [THE Boss] blessing to go back at the end of Sept. I have sent in the entry form and got a room at the Wilmington Inn  1-937-382-6000.  At this time there aren't any non-smoking rooms left. But you don't have to smoke in a smoking room if you don't want to.  If it bothers you try some Vicks Vap-O-Rub on your nose It works for me.
