UGLY OLDS

Quote from: "enjenjo"I have to replace the reversing switch on my mill, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to wire it. I'll do some more studying, and try again tomorrow.

QuoteIn the mean time I had to turn an odd shaped piece in the lathe, and had no way to mount the four jaw chuck. So I held the four jaw in the three jaw, and chucked the part in that. I ran it at low speed, and had no problems.

I had an adapter made to mount my 4-jaw chuck on my Atlas .. Best case of beer that I ever bought .. 8) ....

I'm doing a major brake overhaul on my wife's Astro Van .. A'94 with only 156K miles ..Rear brake line rusted through ... I learned with my old pick-up.. No "fixes" .. Everything except the pads & shoes are OE & are being replaced ...
You guys in the south & west have it soooooo  good ..  Anybody have a T155/80D18 temp spare laying around  :?:  That size is unique to All Wheel Drive Astro vans ...  It seems that my spare tire wheel rusted through ...    :?:

You have to Love the Rust Belt.
I had to do the same rust repair to my 94 Suburban when I owned it. All the lines from the ABS back.
You never have time to do it right the first time but you always have time to do it again.

Serviced the trans in my 36 and replaced a stuck governor. checked the undercarriage and changed oil and filter to get it ready for the Nats trip. Hope the replacement governor solves a shift issue.

My electrician buddy came over today and got the switch wiring dialed in. So that is done. I took a couple pictures of what I have done on this trans. the last gear came in today, I put it in, so it just needs final assembly. If you look in front of the yoke, you will see where a seal was. I am just about done with an insert that fits there, and will hold a seal, and a bushing to support the tail shaft.

Quote from: "kb426"Tony, when you have a lazy moment, fire up the engine to get a "pick me up" . Progress is progress. :)

yes , it is.  My intake manifold leaks at each end.  I used Gasket Maker grey silicone. I did not think it skinned over, but it must have. Leaks at sillicone and bottom of intake.

One v-cover dripped too.  That is why I built this engine run stand, for longer run in , while I watch.

I've seen bad silicone a few times..I even got a bad caulking tube once of Permatex..not the Ultra Black..I have heard a few guys say they have never heard of it failing..I dunno.
I used to do pretty much everything..lol..you name it I did it with that cheap $ store stuff. The only thing it would not stick to was a cv boot. The Permatex did..so I switched from $ store to Permatex..they both worked the same..only things..it is stupid expensive..like..$17 or something for a tube..and the worst part is that it is a one use thing. I have not been able to figure out how it can ever be used again once opened. I switched to the Permatiex Clear Silicone/adhesive and started using it on everything..I sure don't like laying out like close to $40 for 2 caulking tubes of that stuff for 2 jobs.
Recently I had to switch to the Ultra Black..seems that it does not have to be all used at once when opened. Guess I will have to find out how good that stuff really is.

Frank, I may have missed it BUT why do you need to make such mods to the trans?

This trans is going into an old Chevy with a torque tube. I modified the input and throw out sleeve to bolt up no adapter, with the stock clutch. Now I am making the back fit the torque tube.

Neat job of re-engineering!

I finished the first part of the trans to torque tube adapter today. I should have the other part made by the end of the week.

My Mom passed away yesterday, she was one tough Brit. She had one good valve in her heart, one was malfunctioning and two were shot. We were told in the hospital she wouldn't make it through the night, she went home for hospice care the next day, the hospice care nurse said it would be that night. She make it two more nights. As sad as it is for her to pass it was far worse seeing her struggle.
