Watching American Graffiti again for the umpteenth time

Opened the shop door this morning and there was a rather large snake just in front of me on the floor.  I chased him out with a broom.  I looked for his mate the rest of the day while I worked.  Where there is one there is two.

Changed out a new faulty turn signal switch in a friends 64 Chevy truck today.  I spent a lot of time trying to find something else wrong before I changed out the new switch but it turned out to be the problem.  I have had lots of new bad parts the last couple of years.  Now his horn is not working correctly.  It worked before I changed the switch, so tomorrow or someday soon, I will fix his horn.

I just came in from the shop. It's almost 8:45 pm. It's the last day of August and it's still hot in the shop. I'm so happy that only a "summer" guy can understand. This summer has vanished. I've had a good summer but it lasted about 1 minute. That being said, I'm trying to decide how to finish the wheels on the mini bike project. They are aluminum 2 piece. They were burnished when new. That makes them shine but when you look close, they are rough. I don't have access to a tumbler to re-burnish them. My options are to sand and polish, sand and paint or glass bead and leave natural. Anybody have any thoughts?

I started to build my workbench yesterday. It will be 8' long, 30" wide, and 37" high. The frame is made up of 2x1 and 1x1 steel tubing and it's very heavy! The top will be 3/4" plywood covered with a 1/4" layer of Masonite for the work surface. I should have it done on the weekend. Pics to follow.

I sterted fixing the frame on a rusty Ranger. The rear of the frame, where the hitch bolts, rotted out. I am replacing the back 20" of the frame, and replacing the spring hangers.

I put on new brake lines on the '99 Ranger last weekend, and new shoes, cylinders and drums on the rear tonight.  In the next day or so, I'll put on new rotors, pads and calipers on the front.  I bought a newer Ranger, '05 FX4, so I'm giving the old one to my daughter.  It's hot and muggy out there.

Scrubbed up a pair of tires to mount on some rims for sale, polished 4 rims for sale, and packaged some stuff going to the UK...WHERE DID THE DAY GO TO, anyway?

I took the easy way out on the mini bike wheels. I glass beaded them and then painted them to match the engine. Single stage urethane. I tried to polish one side last night. Way to rough for a small project.

finished welding up the last cab corner on the truck tonight. Now I find a bunch more rust in the pass. side a pillar. someone used spray foam to seal holes in this thing and it has caused a bunch of rust wherever it was used.Hopefully I will get to filler and paint by the weekend.

You only use spray foam if it's on it's last legs. I've done it on a rust bucket or two.

I am not trying to make this truck pretty by any means but I do want to make it solid again. Once I am finished the rust repair I will undercoat the firewall, floors and inner fenders to slow the rust process. A fresh coat of rustoleum should hold it together for a good few years.

Spent a few minutes spraying PB Blaster on this 1948 Simca.  62 yr old car must have been in Aridzona most of it's life.

In removal of bolts from the running boards, front sheet metal and left rear fender....I broke 3 bolts in 2 pieces and had to cut off 1 bolt.. all in the running boards.  The remaining bolts all threaded out

Bracing for wind and rain, the weather guessers reckon we're up fotr the worst we've had in over 20 years.

Blowin' a gale outside at present but the rain has been steady not too hard.

The western part of the state seems to have copped the worst of the precipitaion with widespread flooding reported.

Meanwhile across the way, the Kiwis have copped it big time with a 7plus quake almost demolishing Christchurch which is the biggest city on the south Island.

Miraculously nobody was killed.

Sadly on the other side of the island a plane has gone down killing all on board.

Nope. The county fair starts today.

I finished up the Ranger yesterday, new frame sections all installed.
