'Twas a good day today...picked up our new passports at the post office this morning. We've never had them before and now that we can't drive across the border I decided maybe we should get some. Bonneville (and other US destinations) will be on the radar once again!  :D

You'll have to come down to Kalamazoo now.

I spent the day yesterday driving to a chrome shop in Indiana to drop off some parts for polishing and plating.

I've been in and out of ER and hospital past 3 days, going in for surgery tomorrow on my shattered wrist.

typing with one finger is an ordeal for a touch typist.

Once the Essex is back on the road we plan to hit as many US events as we can with it. This summer I think we'll drive the daily down to the Black Hills for a few days. My wife has never been there and my last time was as a kid in the mid 70's.

When you play with big horsepower , things break big time.

About 2500 HP,  drive shaft failure of some type.

This is a Hughes XP-5 power glide with lock up converter clutch type of torque converter in a drag race car.

Not a total loss.  The input shaft is straight.  I have not checked all the parts yet.

dont be posting that kind of stuff.....when did it break?  at the launch?

chimp koose

could that break be because of a front and mid motor plate AND a solid rear trans mount? I have seen chassis flex do just that.

i have always wondered if the companies who forge aluminum pistons could not with the customer supplying forging tooling.. create forged aluminum parts like the tail housing.. for extra strength.. i am not talking about the bell housing. thats way too big for most of the machines used for forging pistons..

have a look at a video for piston forging blanks being forged..

then envision something like the tail housing..  same process..

much stronger..  i would think..

perhaps on a second look .. there is enough room to forge a bell housing in that aluminum forge..

Visited drag races today.

Henry J ran consistent 10.92 , 10.94, 10.92  today. 119 - 120 mph.  Quickest the car has run so far

Good looking Henry J.  I really like the color.

I sold the Naked Wing today.  The profit will finance my trip to Bonneville this August.  It was a fun bike but I really do not feel comfortable on a bike anymore.  I did enjoy building it.

wayne, the bell housing and case meet required SFI ratings now.  Although , those parts were tested different in the car this time.

Tail housings do not need SFI rating.  I think JW performance transmittins in florida offer a SFI rated tail housing....  or they did offer at one time.
