Right you are about the Merc. I had forgotten about that. No Mercs in my past.  I have lots of drag racing  in my past with Olds ends on 9" rears.

I believe if you go to either Mark Williams or Strange engineerings' websites they have pictures of the different center sections. As far as the 5 on 5 pattern, only large GM.

Most sensors can be checked with a volt meter. The problem is knowing what the correct reading is.

Rodder's Roundtable / 10 1/4" ford truck rear end?

How many miles? The pinion depth is set by shims behind the pinion bearing and backlash is set by side shims. If you replace the pinion bearings it should be close in depth. However, any noise may be caused by gear damage which means new gears and resetting all clearances.

This evening I pulled the intake and replaced the water pump. I used silicone on the intake the last time 4 years ago. I never had any problem before but it didn't work this time. I was out of silicone so I used contact cement to glue the cork seals down. I fired it, let it warm up, shut it off, changed the oil and restarted. So far I'm dry. The engine and water pump also.  It was 71 degrees here today. The cycles had to come out for a few minutes to charge the batteries. Tommorrow the forecast is for the 30's cooling down to a high of 16 on friday. Boy am I glad there's a heater in this thing.  The engine in the truck was a high mileage unit  so if it causes more trouble I won't be surprised only disappointed.  Incase I forget to say it, Happy Holidays to everyone on the board. I've noticed that alot of the posts have been about  illness and death.  I hope you all have a day of joy to remember the good times.

I believe the project god is mad at me. Yesterday I bolted the rear fenders on the 53 truck and installed the torque thrust 2's for the first time. I have a list of people wanting to see the finished truck. At the first house, I notice oil dripping from the engine. Turns out that the rear seal on the intake decided not to work anymore. If I had a clue this would happen, I would have pulled it when the front end was off. It won't be fun to fix. The engine has been together for 3 years. I guess it was my turn to be lucky. I still lack door panels and headliner but there's alot less parts laying around than 1 month ago.

Rodder's Roundtable / PC computer questions

To the question about copying movies, inless you haver a copy of dvdxcopy or some other program that breaks the copy protection, you won't  be able to copy. If you have no burner at all, it makes sense to the dvd because it will also burn cd's. My software choice is Nero.  We have less problems with it than easy cd creator. If you are capable of installing your own drive, try Newegg. com. Good prices, very good service.  Most everything is done online. No sales people.

I agree. The dual layer is most used for copying movies to one dvd. The older cd formats are used for mp3 music, photos, or file saving. I've stored all my photos on cd's for several years. If there's anything to watch for, some drives are only recommended with a particular brand of disk. That always limits you when it's time to get more. My first dvd drive would only work with HP and one other brand. The one I have now will use almost anything. The cd burners have ran just about any piece of crap made. Seem to be much more forgiving than dvd's. Dell stands behind their warranty pretty good.

I just watched the 70 mustang episode. Done at the sema show. The owner was either totally shocked or a hell of an actor. I'd like to see one of these cars a year after completion. Very curious how they'd look.

3 years ago I went to 9 funerals in 45 days. These were all people that were inportant to me. Since then it has slowed down. I feel for all who have pain cause there isn't anything you can do about it. You should just hope you can make everyday count.

Both shows were good. The crapola that acompanies Boyds show is not my style. I like cars, not people problems. Obviously, the demographics aren't headed  for serious car people.

I agree about the celeron. For an ex-racer, there is no celeron in my future. I have amd at my house and pent.4 at the office. The amd machine is way faster. It also has a sata drive  but most everything else is the same. I built mine but wouldn't recommend it for someone with limited exp.

Rodder's Roundtable / Flames on Puter case

My canon is broken. I'm a couple months out of warranty and I'm trying to get them to make an exception. As soon as I hear from them I'll either send mine in or have to buy another camera. Till then, I'm without. I haven't used it very much and now I could use it everyday while finishing the 53.

Rodder's Roundtable / Is 3 and a half inches enough?

I think it's too low to be in the middle. The front end can be that low  but you have to watch where you go. If the middle is that low, you won't be able to clear any rise at a store. No soda's, no fun.
