Was out driving the '50 today, and it was running great, until i got on the freeway.. got onto the freeway, accelerated great and i romped it to pass, and it sputtered and choughed and started running real rough... coasted to the median and there was the odor of extreme lean run conditions...
last august it did the same, and i thought i had narrowed it down to the fuel cap, which was non-vented, so i drilled a small hole in it, and it seemed to run fine.

anyhow, I started it up after 5 minuites and drove it off the freeway at the next exit, to the gas station, and filled it (17 gals, the tank is 26gals).

started up and it ran fine for about 10 miles, and started the whole i'm going to act like im outta gas thing. turned around and started for home (maybe 12 miles away) and it took 1.5 hours to get back home because of the whole start, stop, im going to die thing.

Tank is clean, with a new pickup/strainer in the tank, the fuel lines are new 3/8 steel lines, with no radical bends, all rubber lines are less than a year old, the filter has less than 500 miles on it, the fuel pump has less than 1000 miles on it, the steel line to the carb is new, and bent exactly as the orginal, and is insulated, the carb was rebuilt.... has 2 fuel filters, one is between the tank(canister type) and the fuel pump, and the other is the stock ford filter which screws into the carb.

any ideas??

I've got a used tach for my engine test stand I'm building,but I need some help wiring it.It has 6 wires,white,red,green,black,yellow,and blue.
I don't see any brand name,but it says "Made in USA".Any ideas?

just taking a stab at it.... black grd, red switched 12 v, blue wire is probably for the lamp, which leaves the yellow, green, white wires... one is probabbally for 4 cyl, one for 6 cyl, and the other for 8 cyl going to the - side of the coil?

On the flip side my diehard battery in my lawn tractor has puked.  I have a battery tender device on it .

Went to fire the tractor up this eve and the battery is dead as can be.  Will not jump with the bad battery hooked up it is so dead.

Guess I will run to Wally World for  a new battery for the lawn tractor.

yes what is up with these yard tractors, mine eats a battery every year, and i have a battery tender on it....

  Thanks again Cros..I know this is an import job/Mazda trans. The fluid was changed not long ago.Maybe I'll try a sol..or maybe buy the book on it.

when you say the fluid has been changed, do you mean dropping the pan, and changing the filter?

or a 12 qt flush?

whos got the best deal on an engine hoist (aka cherry picker) I checked H/F and they got sum good deals . Anything else around mich indiana ohio area I should look at. Im gonna use it more to hoist the new roadster body around but ill also use it to install the engine..

the best way to cheack the bulbs is using the 4 way flasher... not sure, but iirc, the town car used a lcm( lighting control module) and it is under the dash a little to the  right of the accelerator pedal.

just a thought. what if you installed a relay in the line between the battery and the guage, and controlled the relay with the key in the run position.

this way you can see the volts at the battery, but only with the key in the run postion.

I put disc brakes on my 65 galaxie and I am trying to find 4 disc brake rims,I wollered out the center holes on the two front to get my car drivable but they can not be balanced now so I hope someone would have a set they are not using,  I hit a couple junkyards but they only had 14 inch and all the 80s and up crown vics had aluminum wheels or the steel rims that did not have the bumps to hold on the small hub caps,I might have to work all the saturdays in january so I might not be able to hit the junkyards for awhile.  Jeff
