Those are the worst panels you've ever put on?  *!  Looks better than new.

Nice work IDJ ! I spent last night trying to make a rear fender for the chopper project . I did say TRYING   ! I will beat on this until it looks like a fender ! Gotta learn metal shaping some day .

enjenjo

metal shaping is easy, don't give it a choice. ;D
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

Somebody once said I had a metal shaping career.  :o

Phil, yep. Thanks guys. A cherry Karmann Ghia showed up yesterday and years back a rougher one showed up with big plans. And a new bondo guy started. I've always said if you want to save money bring a better car.

Maybe I've been reading the situation wrong. Hard to tell from under this mushroom. I think I finished primer prep on the F1 bed yesterday and blocking the cab is next. Yes, THAT F1.

I misread your statement about the quarters; I thought you meant that was your worst 'work' on quarters, not the worst job that came in.  I wish I had a quarter of your talent, no pun intended.

I worked at a Ford dealer in the mid 70's, and the owner hired the citys mayors' son to work in the body shop.  Everyone started calling him 'bondo baker' after he put ONE GALLON of bondo on the door of an Oldsmobile 2 door.  Ouch!  On the other hand, I bent over the fender of a new Ford while prepping it and put a small dent in the upper part.  *, how thin can this metal be? A  more experienced body guy came to my stall and got it out so that you couldn't tell. That was before I'd even heard of PDR.

We had a severe wind storm come through one day, and it took all the pebbles from the surrounding flat roofs and pelted many of the new cars on the lot. I mentioned to the owner he should have a 'scratch and dent' sale.  Instead, he had a mobile company come in and install vinyl roofs on them.  I don't remember what they did with the hoods and trunk lids, but can you picture a Ford Pinto with vinyl on the roof and hatchback?  I will admit that the installers were quite inventive.

Always more'n one way to skin the cat. I recall seeing some Pinto hatch with vinyl on top.

And the qtr installs were indeed also my quickest / naughtiest. I welded 12-13 ft in 2-3 hours on one side. The old ones were rust free and would have straightened.

CK good luck with a chopper fender, I've not tackled anything like that.

I have watched fender making videos and I started mine differently , hoping I would not have to hammer as much . I was wrong  ::) . I have a really sore elbow and forearm on my swinging side and was hoping I could get to a fender shape without wielding the big hammer . I may have to heal up some more before I go after this fender again .

I watched some video from the SEMA show. The Ring Brothers built a 48 Chevy truck with a budget that makes me look like a teenager who dreams. LOL. Lots of cool stuff. I think the cars are way better than when I used to go back in the 80's and early 90's. :)

I think that trend will continue as the automobile in general strays farther from it's purpose.

I was surprised yesterday when the motor for the air comp arrived by UPS. I have it installed and now have no excuse to go back to work. :)

Heres what I came up with for the sectioned Stude at work. See bottom of grille (moved down to look more like a Grand Prix).

I bught a budget efi pressure tester for my Honda civic 2013 car..  Been dealing with a loooong crank to start the car for first time in mornings. If it sits for 8+ hours, it cranks long.  Sits for 2 - 4 hours, cranks and starts near instant

Fuel pressure does drop to zero after shut off , with in 20 minutes.  Turn the ignition on:  Fuel pressure jumps to 58 - 60 psi in a nano second.  Do not understand the long first crank yet.

I developed the glow pluggish habit for my EFI junk... pausing after ign on briefly then cranking. Used to just do it in a single motion. It just needs the nanosecond to bring pressure up for less cranking time. Your subject may vary. Being a carb era guy I also crack the throttle for warm restarts.
