Welder operator- rod burner fatigue break! :) Rust repair on firewall completed. Cowl and lower firewall welded together. Braces removed and the doors still work! The rest of the cab work can be performed from outside the cab in a perpendicular to the earth position. I may look like Igor from Young Frankenstein later if I stop moving. :)

End of day. I believe all the extra holes in the firewall are filled. :)

But you missed at least one, and filled at least two you will need.

That is probably correct but he needs to paint it first to be sure. GPster

Those comments make me think you guys have done this before. :)

I haven't, but I think it's easier to drill a hole after painting, than to weld shut a hole after painting. Maybe we should connect the dots? It might tell us something.

After lunch upload. :) This morning I flipped the cab on it's back. I finished welding the door rails and trimmed some more on the cab brace. There was enough rust to make repair difficult so I decided to do something different. All these cabs are rusted out there so I made braces and welded and bolted them to the mounting parts. One of the lower fender mounts was ripped off so I made a new part to replace it.

Just WOW! so impressive. Do wish I could buy a 6 pack of that gumption.

End of the day. :) Guess who ran out of argon with about 5 minutes of welding left on the right cab mount. The pics are of the hidden side of the cab corners. That is a known problem area of most trucks so I used some thicker metal and left the corners open. The visible side will be repaired to look proper. The bottom of the cab mounts were rusty. The repros I purchased were single thickness instead of double as the original so I made doublers for the area where the bolt goes through. Lets just say they needed some mods to be useable. :) It's time for another $100 bottle of argon.

This is working out pretty well, wouldn't you say? I enjoy observing the no-nonsense repairs and unrelenting progress. 8)

Happy Independence Day from O&S! Mid morning break. Finished welding the front cab mounts, dressed the firewall, filled many holes in the cab.

End of the day at O&S. TB has set in. :) The fuel filler hole has been filled. The 2 rear cab corners are patched. The cab is back outside and there's time to rest up to go to work tomorrow.

Just for the record: argon went up to $107 a bottle. I used to buy this for $14. I did get old. :)

Moving with caution trying to save as many old parts as possible. The engine and trans is out of the cop car and in the F100 frame. The rest of the wiring harness and fuel lines are removed. The power steering lines are left on the c.v. chassis but that's about all that's left. Lots of engineering ahead. :) Oh, I'm still O&S. :)
