Getting suspicious... of how the police handled a crash I had on Jan 26. Hanging my head because I still can't really do my work. Reached for the horn and caught the airbag. 99 Pontiac GTP and it blew both of them when a kid darted across in front of me and I knocked his Ranger's axle loose.

Cop handled it wrong as did everyone I dealt with after the wreck. He kept me at the scene, hurt and in freezing weather about an extra half hour with everyone else and the cars gone. Ambulance medics gave me a deep additional bruise, the purply red kind. My full coverage decided other party 100% at fault and paid me for my car.

Kid never told his agent. Two weeks passed before I informed them of the wreck and they deny any responsibility because of how the police report is written. For same reason, lawyers won't touch it. Says we both had green.

So I call the cop, and he is "investigating" and planning an "amendment" to his report. I call BS and think he is related to the kid in the Ranger. Sound wierd to you too? Who the F do I call? Stateys? Anger cup overfloweth, don't know if I can keep from spilling.

Anybody ever heard of an amended police report? Doesn't sound like anything thats gonna change anybody's tune. I could seriously end up homeless from this deal. I still go to work but am ripping him off now because I can't do things I'm most needed for, like use ratchets and hammers and such. My mental foundation was already weak. Every trip to work I pass by five places where my beloved automobile has been crashed into by a goof. Same on the way home. Its ridiculous and I truly can't handle ANY more crap.

End of rant. Lets go over by the fireplace and pass a dark bottle please.

Strange ...If BOTH parties had the green light , I would think the City or Public Works dept of the city would be at fault for allowing an inoperative traffic control signal to stay in service without police presence at the scene to safely direct traffic ....

Well, I know how it went. He was following somebody in the car ahead of him and they stretched the turn arrow so he ran it. It turned to green light both ways with yield next. I was approaching on cruise control with foot over brake and my light went green so I proceeded. First car that went cut it close, second one had the drop on me so all I could do was cram brakes. Almost stopped, too.

Cop was studying the traffic light log intensely but had no way to nail down the exact timing. Usually if I see a wreck I pull over and offer my phone # in case a witness is needed. I guarantee a dozen people saw this but not a peep. One lady that called 911 had to be physically tracked down so she could say "No, I was looking down.", no help there. She would not return calls from police.

I didn't think of the light being at fault. It just seems like someone has screwed up and they are hoping theres something I won't ask until a timeframe runs out. Since the one month mark is a couple days away, I'm getting jittery and smell a rat. getting tougher to suck it up.

Dont look for an amended police report...  My crash in 1980, the cop measured a set of truck dual tire skid marks.  I never hit the brakes on my car.  I proved it via witness statements.  Cop would NOT amend, accept my proof , nothing.  I did not have cash for attorney

If he turned in front of you, he failed to yield, even if his light was green. I would be contacting my insurance company for some help.

Crosley, at least you got to actually speak to a lawyer. I could not make it past legal assistants with the police report the way it is and no witness.

enjenjo, I've told my ins co of all this. They declared other party at fault based on the fact that I stated I took evasive action. They paid off MY policy. Aside from up to 5K in med bills, they met their obligation. Not gonna see a specialist until I know who is paying. My big #1 tendon isn't healing though. I have government-mandated personal health insurance as a last resort.

I contacted the officer in desperation hoping that after the report was written, somebody returned his call. Thats when he told me he was doing his own investigation and had finally gone to her address when she would not call back. After that long conversation with the officer, he agreed that my account fit with his clues and then HE mentioned an amendment coming this week. After that, 2 or 3 emails between us have been questions about other traffic. My lanes were clear. Sounds fishy, he just has me repeating myself as if to trip me.

I've just been on pins and needles for near a month now, and hurt bad for most of that time. When I try to work and can't (and the cold ain't helping) and the pain flares, I about go cuckoo. Starting to feel a little sick and hoping its not from riding in a car with blown airbags in it. Got the bumper and lights back on it and new windshield but I'm just not up to the airbag work yet. Did cut out the remnants and shop vac what I could with doors open and breeze blowing but when you open the door- sulfur. Its just all unfortunate and the only solution I know is to PUSH work back into my days and try to become left-handed.

People have worse situations and bigger recoveries every day, but the good ol boy instincts are hard to put down. I could even things up right fast with my 3lb shot-filled mallet if the kid just held out his arm, y'know?

    I'm lost here/missing something?

Cop says both lights were green.THAT is really what you want.
BOTH lights GREEN..someone turns in front of you..you have the right of way..THEY did not yield. I would think that ANY law firm/lawyer would take this in a heartbeat.

These things get ugly when the car going through has a yellow or red..and perhaps could have or should have stopped/yielded..OR the car turning has a yellow or red and ASSUMES the other driver will stop/yield at his yellow or red light. Then it is he said/she said or witness or traffic cameras..or on board computer records.OR what the cop feels.

True..there are of course cases where the car going through the intersection is just going way too fast..and the other driver turning..has a "reasonable" right to turn in a "reasonable" time based on the accepted and anticipated speed of the other vehicle. This is why here in Ontario(don't know where else?) there is a traffic law that is called "failure to avoid a collision". You cannot just drive into someone know matter who is at fault. You must have "reasonable" control of your car.

You have not been charged. The cop did not feel..or say that you were going too fast OR that you COULD have stopped.

Your insurance company initially pays you for your property damages (that is common here)((gets you mobile and wheels faster)). Almost always no matter who is at fault. THEN AFTER determining fault. Then the at fault parties insurance company pays them back. Ironing out other claims can take forever.

Your insurance company feels it is the other sides fault. Good. They paid you.Good.They will now go after the other side. You have not been charged/implicated.

  Sorry..but I am lost.

Cops/lawyers/insurance companies..WOMEN..ask you things a billion times. THE SAME THINGS. Just keep records of this (EXCEPT FOR WOMEN  ) Document,get/keep copies of EVERYTHING!

Sorry for you sufferring..car accidents can be UGLY

Just rememberred..perhaps you are expecting the cop to lay charges on the other party. In some cases this is very important. Other cases..no charges are neccessary..pretty obvious whose fault it was.

idrivejunk

The cop said on the report "unable to establish the condition of the light at the time of the accident" and thats where the problem lies. Other driver says he had green left turn arrow (see above statement). I say my light turned green as I approached it in the outside thru lane. The cop has told me he does not think I ran a red light.

I know its gonna be a mess. It already is and has been. Woke up with a fever today, maybe that will mellow me out. After his insurance shut me down and a lawyer turned it down, I knew where I stood and had closure. When I talked to the cop and he mentioned amendment, mind chaos returned.

The beloved police chief of that city died last month and the new was sworn in today. So I'm sure theres some chaos there at the PD too, but waiting sucks.

Exactly. Kid needs a failure to yield like a hog needs slop! he won't get it though.

Did NOT mean to hang a dark cloud over this thread, gents. Apologies.

Heard from the officer. An SUV-full of kids drove off in the lake last week and one drowned, he worked it of course. "when things get back to normal" is when he said he will come back to my case. Sorry, but theres a lot wrong with that statement in my ears. On the potentially plus side, he mentioned having contacted an additional 911 caller this week. The world is cruel to shiny things.

In an attempt to redeem myself, heres a link to a page with a cool vid about cruel and shiny 11 sec things:
