I keep hearing they are changing the cut off year to 1980. Any one have the straight poop?
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

I was talking with  2 NSRA reps tonight and it's true-  beginning in 2010, ALL NSRA events  (including Louisville) will be open to 1980 vehicles.   They were already getting emails from upset members  :( .  Tom...

This will be interesting!!!!

There's discussion on this subject on other boards and how the NSRA will loose it's integrity by this move.

However... if this boosts attendance and instills enthusiasm with the younger generation I guess it might just work.

I left the NSRA 12 years ago and have wandered about as an "Independent"  jumping between the Good Guys, NSRA, NHRA and IHRA.

A car show is a car show but what it all boiled down to is the people... the cars are a common thread but it was the friends that I'd meet at these events that would cause me to return every year.

Well old age has taken it's toll... I've lost a ton of friends over the years and found myself meeting the New generation at many different venues and I'd be "Very Interested" in seeing some young kids version of an antique car and what they would do with it... after all this is "Hot Rodding"...!

If you don't like it... don't go... but if you want to see young talent and see what they can do with these "Zero Value" smog boxes I think it would be worth the price of admittance!

Besides most of these young guns would die for a car that we have and maybe... just maybe... one day they'll have honed their skills and saved  enough coin to build a Real Classic liked the ones that parked next to their Gremlin X at a NSRA show way back in 2010...!!!!!!!

I don't like it. Didn't like it when they went to late models at few shows. I really liked going to a show and seeing only pre'49. That's what made the show special to me. I can see late model cars at most any other show. I'm sure the decision was made for monetary issues. It wasn't long ago that NSRA themselves was very adanment about being pre'49. I suppose I could accept a compromise, say pre '60 or somewhere in that neighborhood.  30 year cutoff? I KNEW I should have kept my Citation!!! I saw posts on another board where the guys were talking about driving a bunch of crappy late 70's stuff to the shows!

There's an old bumper sticker I have from when I was in the service " Ignore your soldiers and the will go away"  I see the parallel  with that statement . NSRA to me has become an old fart association.  I attend a weekly  car nite  here in AZ and noticed that the younger crowd seem to shy away from the older cars. Seems that the chainers like to brag about their prehistoric dinosaurs  and how much coins they have in them,  not all of them, but a good percentage. The younger crowd can't afford that kind of money so they do what they can with what is availabe to them. Change has to come as far as the 48 cutoff.............. oh well.  PS here's a name dropper experience I was in the other night.  I was intro to a guy with a 40 sedan. Looked on his t shirt and commented what a good  looking 40  "Not just a 40, but Chip Foose dad owned it" then he proceeded to knock on "glass" cars how "awful" etc, So I pointed out my "fake, glass" 37 vert The guy had a hard rime trying to stand up slipping in his $$hiat and mumbling about" well a 37 vert is a cool car etc"I have a simple phylosophy(SP?)  "If you want to impress someone, say something intelligent" end of anger mngt class LOL

I guess it is gonna happen.

People are even restoring Chevy Vegas now.. who would have seen that coming  or a Vega not fully rusted apart?

Ok guys - here's the official memo that all the Reps got!

2010 - the beginning of the Plus years
[/size]
Beginning in 2010, vehicles thirty years old and older will be accepted for participation at every NSRA event.

As we head into our forty-first year, it has become an overwhelming majority of our members who are requesting that we open our events. Most are making the request in order for them to be able to continue to participate as a family - parents, children and grand children. the National Street rod Association has always been and will continue to be focused on making our events a family activity.

The National Street rod Association remains committed in our efforts to provide our members the very best!

Please be advised that for this year, 2009 only the Richmond, Burlington, Sacramento, and Tampa Nationals will be open to 30 year and older vehicles.

Here's the 2010 give-a-way car:

A 1979 Ford LTD 4-Door.
A street rod is a vehicle made before 1949 that is modified with modern stuff: bigger motors; newer trans; updated suspension, front & rear; a/c.
Following is a street rod plus definition: No known definition because it changes.

I got my notice to re-up from the NSRA yesterday. I'm debating if i want to do it. I might want to go to K-Zoo this year, but I might not. It's $30 a year now, I know i won't be rejoining next year, Hopefully for the NSRA all the new muscle car and import guys will make up the revenue they wil lose from guys like me.  :(

Crosley.In.AZ

I am not sure I see this as a positive move for the NSRA.

fyi: I moved this to the main RRT forum for a larger view , I hope.

Guess I'm glad I got that lifetime membership to NSRA back in the 70's.

I have been itching to drive my 61 Chrysler or 67 Dodge Charger to some events.

heh, heh, problem is now I'm most likely not ever gonna attend anymore NSRA events due to life difficulties.
