This so classic, I had to teach my wife how to run my 1959 Oliver 550 before I left for Afghanistan so she could do the field herself. I can't wait to see how that turns out, just as long as nothing happens to her or to the tractor. nice going on the delivery, did you send him a bill?

Rodder's Roundtable / My old frame 38 ford
May 30, 2008, 09:09:50 PM
I bought this beat up 40 Ford Pickup out of a farmers woods about ten years ago because it had a tailgate that I need for my truck. Now I am wondering if the frame would be salvageble. I know my father said he thought the cross member was bad. How "bad" does one of these frame have to be before you consider it no longer salvageble? I know you can get the new suspention. I know you cant tell how bad a frame is from a forum and I am unfortuatly stuck in Afghanistan for another seven months. I would call my father to check it out but getting him to help is like pulling teeth out of loins mouth. I appreciate all of your help. I may just search for a nice rolling chassie if I can find one.

May 30, 2008, 08:53:00 PM
Hello Russ,
I am a step ahead of you on joining the VFW. I filled out my membership information right before I left to come here, this is my second tour so I was already qualified. I am excited to get home and maybe I will see you at the VFW sometime. Maybe we can go crusin with our rods when I get back, if i ever get her on the road. Thank you and have a great day. Jason

Rodder's Roundtable / My 38 Ford PU, the beginning
May 30, 2008, 01:14:01 PM
WOW all of you have already been a huge help. I like the traditional street rods, like something my grandfather might have built back in the 50's. I like the lowered look, but not scraping low. I have really started to like the "parts hauler" look that is becoming so popular. I just want something to be able to hop in take my kids for a cruse. I have pretty much ruled out using the 79 frame. Now I have to find a frame from that period, that could be a task I think. Not much survived the salted roads of PA. I have the complete truck, a good cab (minus the bottom of the doors, no biggie), the fenders, good side curtains with emblems, a hood, the box and even a tail gate. I also bought a 40 Ford truck that is way worse for the left side of the box and the tailgate. The frame is real shot on that one. The problem is when I bought it I brought it home in a few box's. I was 13 and had big dreams, here I am 15 years later sitting in a combat zone trying to make them come true. Funny how that works. So here I am, just trying to get a start while I am here. Thank all of you for all of your great advice so far. I look forward to any help I can get. Thanks again Jason

Rodder's Roundtable / stuck in Afghanistan
May 30, 2008, 05:11:46 AM
Hello, My name is Jason and I am currently serving in Afghanistan with the Pa Army National Guard. To help keep myself sane I am trying to plan out my restoration/rodding of my 38 Ford PU. I am looking for any advice I can get. I bought a 1979 F100 to use for for a donor frame and I would like to know how relistic this is. The original frame did not come with the truck and the one that did come with it is a 1947 ford frame( i think it is a 3/4 ton because it sits rather stout). I don't know where to begin or if the 79 was even a good match. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Proudly serving Jason
