Rodder's Roundtable / Re: 77 Chevelle frame
July 27, 2004, 04:44:25 PM
What's the wheelbase on one of them frames?

Could make a good frame swap for an older model car - updated suspension and set up for a SBC......

I am always seeing good * f/s from Texas. I wish I could find this * locally....

This is a timely subject.

My dad was working on a car just the other day. He is forcefully retired (aka laid-off) and is making his living by restoring musclecars and selling them. Anywho, he had just put some seam-sealer on the floors and was welding in the package tray area when the sparks lit the floor-pan on fire. He was one step away from a cheap-* fire-putter-outer and was able to stop it from spreading.

This car is a deep investment in his livelyhood, and loosing it AND his garage would have put him(and mom) in the poorhouse for sure. And they are pretty young for a couple of old farts - Dad is 56 and mom is 30 (at least she has been for the last twenty years or so). I can't imagine how they'd make it if something like that happened.

Needless to say he didn't do any more work for the rest of the day until he got new putter-outers.......

A car owned by a mechanic sounds like a sound investment to me.

An engine is an engine. Change the oil often and it lasts longer, skimp a few miles between changes and........poof.

Ask the mechanice how long he's owned it. If it's only been a year or so he's done "working out the bugs", if he's owned it for a long time he's unloading the trash.

Both are good cars. Hard to go on such a minimal description.

Get a non-biased mechanic to make your mind up for you - they know what goes out first and can tell you if the usual problems have been addressed.

I suggest this because my brother buys and sells on ebay like crazy and every time - EVERY TIME - I have a need for something, even if it's wierd or expensive, he can find it on ebay for me, and usually at a good savings.

I've had good luck there., that's all...

suggestion:

check ebay

Hmm this must only be a mid west thing. Mushroom hunting kicks *. And morels are scrumptious....

Then again what do us hicks know ? We only eat catfish too...

I have heard that people in other regions will eat fish that we wouldn't take a * on.  I guess we are the weirdos.

I went out mushroom hunting every day this past week. I came up dry - only saw about a half dozen, I left them so they'd reproduce. I also went fishing too, I caught a carp that was about three foot long, tossed him back. Carp sucks.....

Things are bound to turn around sometime. The weather is changing - it'll be a warm, wet week this week. The mushrooms will be popping soon, and the Catfish will be biting too. I guess the "fat season" isn't over, lol.

I do have to make these headers, with a nice Intake
the ST8 would look sweet.
Jdee

HHEEEEYYYYYYY !!!!!!

You've been holding out JDEE!!! I didn't see those headers on the HAMB. Did you say you made them? And they are for the Little I8? I need to get some 'o dem !!!

Fat * Buick was supposed to ship me some flanges so I could try to hack a set together myself - but they'd never look as good as those babies. :)

Yea, the intakes are a problem too. I seem to find them when I am broke and when I HAVE the money they are nowhere to be found.... :x

I am knee deep in susp. problems right now though. These lever-action front shocks......I guess I am going to try to re-build them and use them in conjunction with air bags. For now I need bushings, lots and lots of bushings.

So how are you handling the shifting chores right now? I suppose you have the automatic....

Rodder's Roundtable / Shifter conversion...

Well, thanks guys.

I know this is kinda out there as far as tech stuff goes because the Buicks are not as wildly popular as everything else - and most  cars get the old SBC routine.

I am trying like hell to keep this I8 thing going and I am just looking for alternatives. I know Bendtsen's makes a 700r adapter that would make this thing cruise like nobodys buisness but then I would have a whole new set of things to do - a new column and ignition, etc. It'd just be cooler to floor shift.....

I got some good suggestions on the HAMB from C9. He is a GOD. I suck. I hope I can just fab something up the way they used to do it. It is something that I've never done so it might take some guidence....

I am running the origional 3 speed manual (on the column) behind the I8 in my Buick. They used to sell floor shift conversions for these right? Can I still get one?

My dad was telling me they might be found in a JCWhitney, but after looking I don't think so....

Any help will be appreciated. The timing would be great as I have no carpet in the old bastard right now and it would be a weekend project that could be handled quickly.

Maybe I better specify that this is an all origional '50 Buick, there were shifters for Chevys and Fords, and a few other odds and ends, but not for this vintage of Buick.

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: How to shoot flames
April 19, 2004, 11:40:08 PM
Quote from: "psychobilly515"Hey newbie here i was wondering if any one had any info on useing a propane bottle to shoot flames

Yea I got some....

It's dangerous, real dangerous.....

And not for an amateur. Do it the old fashion way if you want to do it at all. Propane is a good way to go if you want to set your car on fire.

Not trying to * in your pudding but I just hate seeing aold cars go up in flames.......

On the other hand if you are trying to blow flames from the back of your Honda - definately go with propane, it rocks!!!
