Yes, definitely BenD.  He is a great guy.

Someone made a comment about insurance and I felt it worth to mention the following.
When you purchase a car you should ALWAYS immediately put insurance on the car.  Your insurance may have rules and regs dictating what papers you have to hold or where it has to be but you should ALWAYS have insurance on it when having it transported.  Yes, most trucking companies are bonded and insured but there is NO reason to run any risk of limited insurance coverage.  Shipping accidents do happen. I think posts within this thread are good testaments to that.

I ship cars pretty often and as a result have come across some great people.

Demoise Trk-ing
http://www.demoise.com/

They are a great family company that is super careful with cars and really cares about the customer. Give them a call at 864-609-9390 and tell them Megan from Motorcar Portfolio sent you.

Also, Passport which is now owned by FedEx does a nice job too. They are a bigger company but still very personable, reliable and caring.
Here is their website:
http://passport.fedex.com/

Their phone number is 800.325.4267

These are both enclosed car hauling companies which is what I would use this time of year for any car coming out of the north.

Good luck!

The prices were down and the drama was up.  B-J has officially crossed a new border.  Some bidding incidents had to have been staged-- the Batman bidder brigade, the sport coat exchange and the list goes on and on.  You know what happens in big tops, right?

I watched every bit of it except yesterday.  I guess there were some real bargains across the block.

In general though prices were down as whole and there was no "star car" that brought huge money as in the past years.  That 1963 Farina Corvette that went thru Sat night was gorgeous.  I still don't understand why they sold Robosaurus there....I hate that thing (and it has a scary voice!).

I think my favorite quote from the whole weekend though was when Jay Leno drove the corvette in and said he was the "President of the more money than brains club".  What a great statement, what a nice guy.  A true collector.

Rodder's Roundtable / B/J 2008

I have watched all of Barrett Jackson both nights and will continue to watch all of it until it is over.  Yes, the prices may see out of line for us little guys but they really do identify the market trends for the year.

There have been some great cars and lots of not so great cars as well.  Obviously I am not too much of a ford person, but I loved that K-code black mustang convertible the first night, it was a deal!  I have not loved the massive amount of clones, rust buckets and sub-par cars in general.  I am also quite tired of the Monster Garage cars.  I like Jesse James, I liked the show and I don't care if they are selling them.  But WHY oh WHY must they sell them in blocks the way they have the past two nights?  It really makes even me want to change the channel!

Last night a new Quaker Steak and Lube opened here in town.  So myself and a bunch of car buddies planted ourselves at the bar and watched it there.  It was great not having any sound, it saved me from the ridiculous commentary.  I think I will try it again that way tonight!

As for the guy who bought the rat rod that sold the porsche,  I have been there.  I have stood on that block with recent sale money in hand.  Auction fever is very infectious, sometimes you just HAVE to buy!  All in all that little pick up looked to have a nice chassis.  So junk the body and throw something else on it.  Or heck, leave it the way it is and enjoy it for what it is!  Hope he can buy a title though....

Rodder's Roundtable / Insurance Renewal Time Again
January 02, 2008, 05:04:11 PM
I have my daily drivers, house and life with State Farm.  I like them for those kind of things.  I don't like them for classic insurance because their policies are not defined enough.  What one agent tells a customer in one office can be (and usually is) totally different from what corporate or other agents say in terms of coverage.

For example:
A friend of mine purchased a 1937 Ford 2 door sedan last year.  It is in primer and has been since the 60s.  The guy he bought it from has had it insured with State Farm for the past 40 years!  So my friend, who also has some cars with State Farm, takes the '37 to his agent with the policies from the past 40 years in hand to switch it over to him.  (We are taking about 2 agents within 1/2 hour of each other, within the same state).  His agent REFUSES to insure it!  She says it isn't a done car and won't insure it no matter what.  Even though State Farm had insured it for the past 40 years!

Also another friend has a 1951 Nash that is all original with faded (faded, not missing, not primered but faded) paint they won't insure either.

When you have a special car, you really need special insurance.

I have Grundy and I love it!
The premiums are fair, the mileage is unlimited and they are great to deal with.
The t-bucket (RIP 8.6.2006) was insured with Grundy at the time of the accident.  They were absolutely wonderful in getting the claim settled and making sure we were ok.  They really care about their customers and want to make them happy!  (what a concept! :))

For more info give Nicole Marketta a call at 1.800.338.4005 and tell her Megan sent you!

*no, this is NOT a paid advertisement...i just REALLY like my insurance :)*

Quote from: "purplepickup"I'll be there with my Buick winter beater and can chauffer up to 4 people if somebody needs a ride.

....But then maybe riding with an old country fart in a Buick who hates driving in Detroit might not be some people's idea of a vacation....  I might turn left from the right hand lane at any minute 8)

What happened to the Eldo? I thought that was your winter beater?
I would ride with you

Jim Rivers-- does that comment mean the ultimate GMB is lowering himself to visiting Detroit---in the winter?  I hope so, we will have so much fun!  Heck, we might even have to go to Hellmart!

Oh and by all means, I am still a definite on the tour! Can't wait!

Rodder's Roundtable / A little problem I had.
December 10, 2007, 02:41:24 PM
I am glad you were able to get stopped ok and no one was hurt.  I can't believe that it just snapped off like that.  Be sure to give Mickey a call at Total Performace and tell him about it as well.  He would want to know.
I can't believe that people have had steering box problems from Total Performance.  The bucket (RIP 8.6.2006) was the easiest car to drive ever.

It was nice meeting you as well.  I really like your bucket.  Too bad your son had some bad luck.  Maybe next time.
As for Matt, he's Matt, NO husbands here!

Both of your t's are very nice.  I am (or should I say used to be  ) a t bucket girl.  I will watch for them there.

I plan to go the GNRS as well.  Me and my bestest car buddy in the whole wide world who also happens to be a girl.  Take your guesses as to who!

Only 3 more days until I head to the sunshine.  I was down this week on business and it sure beat the heck out of snowy (yes, snowy!) OHIO!

Come on, somebody else has to be going to the Turkey Run?!?!?

Anyone going to the Turkey Run in Daytona over Thanxgiving?  If you are, post a pic so I can spot ya!
I'll be there sans hot rod on business in a Dodge dually...how unexciting.  At least I get to go though!

I would be interested as well.  I think I am going to come mid week and help HRLC set up Big Olds and then stay through the weekend.  The bus tour is on Saturday.  I am hoping to find enough people to accompany the four busses up so I don't have to drive back and forth multiple times.
I have always wanted to go there.  I bug HRLC about it all the time!

Quote from: "purplepickup"Oh yeah...She's a looker for shore!  It sounds like you're going to do just what she needs to simplify the look.  Black cars look nicest without too many added geegaws IMHO.  That setup under the hood is just too awesome. 8).....except I'm not a big fan of braided hose covers.

I plan to change out the hoses.  I'm not really a fan either.  I'm thinking about using that red opague hose for the fuel lines.  I really like the look of it.  Seeing as how the fuel block is mounted on the firewall I can't use any type of hardline to the carbs.  That is unless I move the fuel block.  If I move the fuel block I fear vapor lock.  SO, I guess I'll just probably use that red line

Quote from: "1FATGMC"Great car Megan!!  I agree, along with most of the others on your plans for the car.  I think I would even keep the etched glass for a while.  I wouldn't ever do it, but it might be fine on that car and is some of the history of the car.  A little lowered and different wheels and leave it alone.

Hope to c ya next summer,

Sum

The etching really doesn't bother me that bad.  It is flowers and I am a girl so it kind of works.  I have a cover design in mind I will probably tape out this weekend to see how it works.  I guess over time as money allows I will replace the glass out.

Quote from: "rumrumm"Looks like you lucked into a very nice car. Congratulations, Megan. I'd be proud to be driving that car.  I might look into getting the exhaust manifold ceramic coated at some point. It will keep the corrosion at bay.

Yes, I definitely need to do that soon.  Everytime I open the hood that rusty manifolds stares right at me!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.  I am really excited about making her mine!
