2023: What are you doing today?

I rebuilt the carbs on one of the Corvairs, and I'm having trouble with the filter housings leaking. The new gaskets nowdays are 'cardboard' instead of the copper gaskets available years ago. Some guys on Corvair sites have said they use two gaskets because they are so thin. I tried that and they still leak. Is there a sealer that would work on these, or tape? I've never liked this design even way back when. Last resort, a vendor sells brass clones with copper gaskets. What does everyone else use?

BTW, I've called parts houses and Chevy dealers, no go.

Phil, can you post a pic or a link so I can see what they look like. The last time I worked on a Corvair was about 1968.

Number one in the exploded view. This style was used among many Carter carbs.

Many of the import cars and some motorcycles use aluminum washers on drain plugs. I wonder if there is a washer large enough to fit the application ?

Or I used to buy copper washers from NAPA in various sizes and thickness for brake line applications

that part number says the replacement nut is longer so i'm thinking it may be bottoming out

I'm using the original housings. I might order the brass fittings that come with a copper washer. Had to work on a fence all day, didn't get a chance to try anything.

Sold the yard art. I deliver it later this week. I have one more to do but it will be later in the fall as all the parts are in area of poison ivy, and various critters are living within and around the stuff I need to get.

Received a notice for another recall on my F350..

First recall is from 04-2022 for wiper blade arms. That is incomplete since I am told no parts are available.

Latest recall is for emissions re-calibrate on the TCM and PCM .... which (wait for it) the " remedy not yet available"

I just replaced the wiper blades 2 weeks ago since the OEM wipers fell apart. I now cover the wipers with some pool noodles, which is common used in the RV world to keep sun off .... Ah , no I do not drive with the noodle covers on the wipers

Other beginnings... gate looks fine, needs work on hood gaps but its all just a starting point really. The heavy pipe bumper barely clears hood, its gotta go. Grille and door latch on their way for obvious reasons.

Final packing, leaving at 6:00 tomorrow morning for Good Guys in Puyallup. Should be a good time, and then on Sunday meeting a bunch of my cousins for dinner.

spent yesterday at the hospital . The boom on an un loaded engine crane fell down and swiped my finger between it and the main post as I was rolling it around the shop. Kinda like peeling a banana . Peeled the skin off my left index finger . no broken bones , no tendon problem , just pulled the skin off . 22 stitches . I can move it and no real pain . I consider my self fortunate .
