Take the tires to a swap meet and sell them to someone who does not know the difference.  :) Thats a joke but a lot of people do stuff like that.

Geeez Phil: that tire is not all that bad.

This boat trailer is in storage lot where we park our RV. One tire is toast, other tire looks like a temp spare from who knows?

This subject is still surprising to me. I have a trailer that I built in the late 70's. The tires still hold air and don't look that bad for having been outside since new. What has been changed on the construction that has allowed this to happen? Built in destruction? I would like to hear a concrete answer to this. :)

Seems I heard somewhere that you are supposed to replace tires when they are 9 years old or more as they can just blow out with no signs of any problem . Not sure if that is a real thing or a retail opportunity . Might have something to do with the climate you are in as well ?

Most tire manufacturers say to replace tires at 6 years of age. They used to. So:  I checked online and it seems to be the same still:  6 yrs

Road hazard warranty were 5 yrs on most light duty tires for many years per a friend of mine. I tend to listen to him , he spent 4 decades in the tire business.  He is Very anal on replacing tires at 5 yrs age on anything he needs to use much distance. He has an old utility trailer  its about 5 foot by 8 feet long bed ... The tires on it are very old.  :o  :o

I have a run flat tire Bridgestone drive guard  on the back of my 2013 Goldwing motorcycle. It is 4 yrs old. I just checked a few daze ago

I thought it was funny that both tires that broke the belts were on the right side of the car.  The car has spent its whole life with me in the garage (after 'restoration)' except for a few months in 95 after my divorce.  Had to build a garage.

I've seen many cars driving around here with the space saver spares on them.

I can not prove this information but I understand that rubber products today our purposely built to deteriorate sooner than in the past, to help them decompose in landfills.  I will google this later today and report back.  I do know that any rubber product, that I use today, goes bad much faster than in the past.

Its my understanding that law changed, deeming tires six years old grounds for a fix it ticket or safety inspection fail. After that, what tire maker in their right mind would make anything better than a five year product? I was disgusted to notice other day my 4 year old set is dry rotted worse than the bald 12 year olds that came off.

So was it the chicken or the egg? Is quality unobtainium due to lawmakers overstepping boundaries or because the trees are about out of tire stuff? Or did we nuke away the islands where they grow?

I contend its like incandescent light bulbs, designed to be in a landfill within a certain amount of time. When the whole time they have been made, its been possible to make forever bulbs that might burn for a century.

Gave the junk tires away today.  Later, I listed the old Edelbrock 1406 on ebay, stating that it needed a rebuild, and it sold right away for $85.  Read an article today that new carbs and fuel pumps are all made in China, although the Edelbrock says Made In USA.  Don't know, but that new 1906 sure runs way better than the 1406 ever did.

Over the years , for the Carter or Edelbrock carbs to run well for me.  I used a pressure regulator to reduce pressure to 4 psi... Also here in AZ , I used a diy heat shield under the carb.  They always seemed to boil fuel out with no heat shield under the carb.

bike time today. Finally mounted the bike on a bike lift I have been walking around for the last 4 months . I can work on it while sitting on a chair instead of sitting on the floor . Made threaded parts to weld on for a chain tensioner. Then went to town trying on 3 sets of handle bars . WOW does it look good with 18" ape hangers ! Sent a picture to my son and got a reply 2 minutes later . He loves them .
