Apparently pin sheared last time . Motor runs straight 50W Lucas oil . I am wondering if the pin is up to the power it takes to spin the pump at that rpm with that viscosity . Any other blower motor I have worked on with that viscosity has had an external oil pump . I have never seen inside this motor but I believe it has a gear drive . I think the biggest issue is that there is no place to run this thing except at the track . Owner has a shop where it can be run but it is 40 miles from his home in my home town . We have been solving a bunch of new car problems but fixing them all at the track is problematic . If he could stay in town with the car at the shop for an entire weekend we could probably get some stuff sorted out before going to the track .

I used to have a similar trouble with 455 Buicks with a high volume, high pressure oil pump. The final fix was to ream the pin hole for a hardened tapered pin, and no more problems. I think you are on the right track with the cause.

just talked with him tonight and last time it shredded the bottom of the gear. The distributor is one of those where you set the depth it sits in the block with a blocking ring that set screws to the housing . You can then use it on short or tall deck blocks. Sounds like the set screw can come loose and allow the distributor to work its way up as the helix of the drive gears tries to push it out the top of the block rather than turn the oil pump. I think if we get it set in to the right depth this time, a little TIG time will solve the issue . New gear will be carbon fiber . We also may have solved another problem . Ignition seems to have been a multi problem . We may have had a bad chip in the MSD which will cause this system to default to a pre set rev limit much lower than the 7700 chip , or actually have a bad MSD box . MSD box is being changed for an MSD 8 system . I have only seen the MSD 7 box work on a 6lb boosted alcohol motor before . all the others have used a magneto with a lot more boost . This motor has 14-15lb boost and I really do not know if the MSD has enough energy . Plug gaps are pretty tight but this is not what I have worked with in the past . Have run .025 gap at 45lb boost before but with a magneto system.

I wonder if the nomad owner is looking forward to someone saying "I had one just like that". :) That will be a real cool car when finished. Has anybody mentioned and aftermarket frame for it?

Absolutely love the B pillar shape on this one . Many look like a hacked off station wagon, not this one .  8) 8)

Washed the '58, cleaned the windows inside and out and vacuumed it out.  Can't remember the last time I did that.  Met up with a couple friends with old cars at a small cruise in for hot dogs and burgers at another car guy's shop.  Too hot and muggy to spend too much time there, though.  The guy putting on the cruise bought an old Ford dealership building and is rehabbing it for his detail/paint shop. He's really doing a great job with it.

We went to Goodguys Des Moines this weekend and got home late last night.  Great show and a great venue.  I took the 460/ Ranger with the intention of selling it.  Lots of lookers and talkers, some offers. but I brought home.

I took a little break and helped my son pour concrete today. That was enough exercise. :)

I had a potential buyer drive my 460 Ranger today.  We had a great visit.  Nice guy.  He offered to trade me a 1955 Ford truck with a 428 in it.  I looked at his truck.  It was very interesting but I just need to sell the Ranger.

Interesting day yesterday. My daughter was driving to Kentucky, for Breyerfest, and called me at 6.09 am. She was only about ten miles from home and her power steering light came on on her dash. I jumped into our Journey and drove to her. We swapped all her stuff into the Journey and she took off again. I drove her car back here. There was a traction control, an ABS, the power steering lights on, and the check engine light came on while I was driving. The traction control and ABS lights had been on and I did replace a wheel sensor last week. We had my nephew, who owns a car repair shop, scan it and it said the wheel sensor was bad. When I got the car home I looked under the hood for whatever and luckily noticed a broken wire behind the right headlight. I spliced the wire back together and all the light except the check engine light went out. Took it to my nephew and he reset the check engine light. He said it was on because of the other issues. I could not figure out how that wire got cut, he looked at it and said it was an animal chew!   Dang squirrels! Then later that day, on my FB feed, it popped up a memory from eight years ago on the same date. That was the time I drove to Cincinnati to rescue her when her car wouldn't started on her way home from Breyerfest! We got home at 3:30 am that time! 😄

I haven't said anything as of yet, but yesterday we buried my 19 year old grandson.  He died in a car wreck last week. Lots of people came and he had been working at Home Depot for a year or so and almost the entire building came to the funeral.  They were really good to JT.  Here is a link to his obit and you can read about his life if you want.

I took this 55 Ford in a trade on my 460 Ranger this morning.  It is rust free except for a small place the size of a quarter on the right  floor board.  It has a 428/c6 and a 9 inch rear end.  Lots of new stuff under that old patinaed body. I have it sold or at least it is spoken for, but I do not have the money in hand yet.

Doug, you have my condolences for your grandson. It's really sad when that happens.

As for what I did today, I returned my right hearing aid to the audiologist so she can return it to have a new amplifier installed.  Hopefully that will get rid of the buzzy sound when I or other people speak.  Geez, it's been since February and we're still working on it.
