I spent the day starting a chopper build with my son . 78 Suzuki  GS1000 is the donor drivetrain in a gs750 frame . We are building the entire frame from scratch . Hardtail with a different type of springer front with springs inside the tubes and a 230 tire in back . Should have the back wheel mounted in frame this week . Then to do motor mounts and have him sit to see how much stretch and rake to put in it . He has not had a bike for 4 years , he is pumped to get this build started. 8)I will have to build a jack shaft to get chain past the tire .

I changed the thermostat in a 2004 chevy front wheel drive with a v6. I managed to turn that into several hours. :) The thermostat has a rubber gasket around it that doubles as the gasket for the housing. It wasn't going to go in the recess. The original thermostat was 1.725 and the new one was 1.8. A little work on the belt sander and things got better. Not much room in there. :)

I know what we are not doing today.  We are not in line for inspection on the Bonneville Salt Flats.  I miss that and I miss having all of you in the pits and on the starting line.  Good luck to all the competitors.  Have a great Speedweeek.  I will be listening in the shop to the streaming and wishing I was there.

There's room for that to be a real eye catcher when done. I would think color choice would be critical because of the body lines. I wonder if a 2 tone with any of the factory splits might be good? :)

Current conditions on the salt flats. (Wet) Not good but things can change and improve quickly.  I feel for all those who have worked so hard and spent a lot of money to go test their vehicle on the white dyno.  The weather forecast is for better conditions the next few days.  They should make a statement on the status of the meet soon.

Good luck for them on the weather. I know it's one of the funnest places on earth. I miss going out there.

I went to Augusta for a show yesterday. The truck has about 2300 miles on it. 104 degrees and a slight breeze. Just a nice summer day. :)

Well I just heard that Speedweek is canceled.  Mother Nature wins again.  I feel for all those who had worked all year for this event.

spent a day with both my kids at my daughters acreage . My son goes back to his home tomorrow . He has been visiting us all this week .

Been spending some time on the chopper build . Built a frame fixture today and will fishmouth the lower frame rails tomorrow to fit the hardtail assembly to it . Next week I hope to build motor mounts . I will have to wait for my harley buddy to get back from Sturgis to root around in his parts stash for a rear sprocket and brake rotor . Then I can figure out what I can build for a jack shaft unit

removed the motor from donor bike today and welded the rear fork to the frame rail . Tomorrow I will start on motor mounts . Saw my harley buddy today . He had an expensive week at sturgis .

a friend is bringing over his 37 ford to work on the starter (350 chev).  I bet he has the wrong bolts in it, keeps coming loose.

Spent more time on the chopper today . Figured out how much compression on the forks at near ride weight . Dont want the nose dipping down lower than I want when its all together. Figured out the required rake for 6" trail and proceeded to make a mock up neck and backbone . I gotta say it looks pretty awesome . Sent my son pictures and he is loving it to say the least . I have been pecking at my model T and walking away in frustration for the last 4 years or so over door fit mostly . Choppers dont have doors ! Must be why I am doing so well on it !

I stopped at a friends shop today.  He was starting to work on a car I had in my shop years ago.  It was a Henry J like the one that Hooley raced.  I built a front end assembly that slides forward and then tilts.  It locks in the tilt position and locks when it is closed by latches on the cowl.  I used linear bearings for the slides.  I need to go back and take a photo as I do not have a picture of it.  I did the work before I had a cell phone with a camera.  My friend is going to help finish the car.  It has been resting for some time.
