Quote from: "phat46"I drove back from Raleigh NC to the Thumb of Michigan today. We saw a lot of hot rods/Street rods headed south on I 77 and through the middle of Ohio. There must be a NSRA or Goodguys type show going on somewhere south this weekend.

GoodGuys Columbus was this weekend.
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying. "Wow...that was fun!"

Poster geezer for retirement....

I found a low mileage 6.0 LS today with all the accessories and wire harness for $700 today. I guess that is what is going into the 54. :D I guess I sold those old vans at the right time.

I cleaned up the castings of my new/old carb today. Thats a step closer to trying it out to see if theres still a problem. Somewhere between now and buying the rebuild kit, found another unopened kit in the garage of course.

Today we found the oil leak in the power steering rack. It took two hours to find it, and of course the rack had to come out. When the rack was assembled they left out an O ring behind a IFF seat. Five cent O ring and it works fine.

Bought a set of plugs today, Champions, one of them looked like this. The plug on the left has the ground strap short and angled instead of parrallel with the electrode. Can't gap it properly, too tight at the back and too loose at the front. Just another example of cheap parts nowadays I guess.

Wrapped up the engine install in Vickie's truck and took it on a 45 mile round trip to a friends house and no major issues. When I got back home, I wired up the trailer light for our camping trip this weekend. Still a few drip from under the truck to track down but the engine is a huge improvement over the last one.
You never have time to do it right the first time but you always have time to do it again.

Well this truck is going to kill me.
The power steering is acting up on me again. put 50 miles on the truck Sunday and I went to move it yesterday and the steering is *. I will order up a new pump and a different fluid today and see if that fixes it for more then a week or day.

Decades ago , when I did more general auto repair I hated to have a Ford with power steering problems. The reman pumps usually howled or leaked or pressure was goofy as you mention.  Other friends in the bizness as shop owner or mechanic all had the same stories.

Getting ready to head to the Puyallup Good Guys.  Doing things a bit different this time.  Have a couple of friends going out with their 37 woodie and will ride in with them on Friday and Sat.  I am then entering my truck in the Sunday deal.  Don't know if I told you all about this one I got a couple of years ago.  It is a single cab, short box 2017 Chevrolet Silverado that someone tricked out.  It has 22" snowflake wheels (off a Cad suburban I think), lowered with a Beltech setup 3 in the front and 4 in the back.  Never knew that a 4 wheel drive could be lowered like that until I got the truck.  Paint matched fiberglass tonneau cover. The bed has one of those carpet liners, wish they had not done that, can's carry any dirt of greasy stuff.  Also, whoever built it had to hang the obligitory Flowmasters on it, so it sounds like every other truck out there. All and all, a pretty nice little ride.
