I built a chilled water removable air condition system for the Ranger, drag and drive truck.  We will be racing in September in Oklahoma and Texas and the weather can be hot.

I used a borrowed chilled water turbo intercooler, an ice chest with a left over pump from our daughters knee surgery, and a fan used to evacuate fumes from an inboard boat engine compartment.  It works and I can install and remove it from the vehicle in about 5 minuets.

I have photos but I can no longer add photos to my post.  I have tried lots of modifications to the photos but nothing works any more.  Just another thing of old age I guess.

John, Frank told me a long time ago theres a monthly limit to upload space where it starts costing extra. I put a tiny one on the gas thread and it must have broke the camel's back.

It rained here in Aridzona in recent days.  Really rained.  Floods.  Roads closed.  Sadly people washed away in flood waters. Trying to drive thru flooded road crossings.

One video I watched a suburban was flipped over by the running  water with people still in the burban. Not sure where that happened.

Making up for being gone for the last week.  2800 cars out in Puyallup and don't know how many would have been there if the Canadians could have crossed the border.  Usually 4-500 cars from across the border.

Here is some photos of my chilled water air conditioning system that I built for the drag and drive truck.  I needed air conditioning but I could not easily add a unit.  I can add and remove this system from the vehicle in about 5 minuets.  When I arrive at a drag strip I can remove it and leave it in the pits while I make my passes.

There is a photo of the unit together setting on the shop floor.  Another photo of it in the truck.  And a shot showing the actual temperature of the air coming out of the duct.

It is a crude system but it will do what I need done.  Another version of this is used with cool vest at Bonneville and other motor sports.

There is a lot of strange stuff floating around in my head. :D

Is the ice chest full of ice and water? How long does it work before the chest needs a refill?

My first test was a 10 pound bag of ice.  I added enough water to the cooler to have sufficient water to circulate.  The intercooler must hold two to three gallons of water but that is just a guess.   The ice melted faster than I would like, but it had to cool about 4 gallons of warm water to start the system.  It will be interesting to see how long the ice last after the system is working for an hour or so.  There is about a 15 degree temperature change in the water as it passes through the intercooler.

Some interesting things should happen after it runs awhile.  It should take less ice to keep the truck cool after the first bag because the water is already chilled some and the air in the truck is cooler now and it is recirculating.

Later this week I will run it more.  This is a great time to test it as we are having heat indexes of over 105 degrees.

Been watching some older TV shows again.  3rd Rock from the Sun..  The original Roseane show.  Still funny to me.

Watched a video of old Mike Douglas TV show with Moe Howard (3 Stooges) on it. Must have been early 1970s show?  Moe was talking about how 3 Stooges came to be and events in early 1920s.  I sat there thinking: geez that is near 100 years ago.

This morning I finished changing the harmonic balancer on the 460/Ford Ranger drag and drive truck.  Last week I adjusted the valves.  When I finished I decided to check the ignition timing.  The timing light showed the marks way off from where they should be.  The outer ring of the balancer had loosened and shifted position.  So I replaced the balancer.  It is normally not a bad job but on this truck everything is a tight fit with minimal work space.  In the morning I will readjust the valves again.

Bought a BBQ pellet grill smoker. Unboxed it. Assembly began poorly. Installing legs and the tack welded nuts for the wheel on the 2nd leg were off.  Stripped threads right off 2 screws. I continued on.

Went to Home Depot for some grade 5 basic 1/4 x 20 bolts and nuts.  Home Depot has some basic crap bolts in the bins.  I wanted at least grade 5.  I found the grade 5 in a multi-drawer cabinet.  46 cents each bolt 1/4 x 20 at 1 inch long.  Plus the nuts and lock washers.

I left H D,  drove 5.5 miles to a place called Marks Bolts, Nuts & Surplus. Its a bulk type deal. You grab what you want into a paper bag.  Sold by the pound. About 25 bolts, 25 washers, 25 nuts cost me $3.43, all grade 5.

I started working on the 54 Ford today. I bought another frame to replace the one that is in it that is rusty. I removed all the junk on the frame that will not be used, and made up some temporary tie rods to replace the bent and missing one that were on it. The frame will then go to the shop to make sure it's straight, one of the front frame horns is wrinkled so I am having that done first. The plan is to cut the front of the fame off, and replace the front section with a early Dodge Dakota frame section I have here to give me rack and pinion steering. I still have to figure out what will happen in the rear, but I am sure there will be some changes.

I read this today for anyone going to the NSRA nationals:

Effective today, July 29th, Kentucky Governor, Andy Beshear is requiring that a mask be worn inside state facilities, regardless of their coronavirus vaccination status.

With the Kentucky Exposition Center being a state facility, this will require all participants, exhibitors and spectators to wear a face covering when inside the Exposition Center.

We ask that you work with NSRA as much as possible as we do not want/need the show to be shut down because of noncompliance....
