Quote from: "chimp koose"There was an article in one of those rat rod magazines that gave info on how to swap in a 700r4 . it gave the specific dimension of the distance from the centre of the throttle shaft that the tv cable had to be attached . I would guess the answer could be found on the interweb . Seemed to be pretty important to trans life that it be correct .

Some folks may remember Sumner Patterson. He has a web page with various specs on throttle angles , cable of the 700r4

I spent a couple hours today working on body mounts for the TCoupe. I have finished the rear sub frame fitting and put in the rear body Mount. so on to the center and front body mounts.  I had to modify my initial plan for the mounts and decided Not to use wooden blocks and instead made a steel block with a 1/4 in of rubber on one side of the block.

I made the blocks out of some rectangular tubing  2.5 in wide By 1 in By 3 in. The block will be welded  against the chassis so the 1 X 3  side holds a steel crush type sleeve centered in the tube. The crush sleeve will supply the anti crush for the sleeve to body attachment bolts and allow for some body adjustment. the 1/4 in rubber will supply minimum isolation of the body from the chassis. When henry did it he used hardwood sandwiched between the frame and body sub frame with a cross bolt pinching the body and chassis together.

Once I get the body mounted firmly I will be able to set the brake pedal and locate where the steering column fits.  Progress is slow but it is forward progress. The problem I had with the rear subframe for the body was a setback but some serious work back there got things where there supposed to fit. One more unknown problem solved.

Oh pictures are forthcoming soon..

I used Sumner's information to instlall the 700 in my 57 way back in'98.  It has never caused me a problem with the transmission

Quote from: "phat46"Just got home from getting my second vaccine dose, and my torque converter, TV cable and mounting bracket were here. I pulled the trans out of my '46 yesterday, by myself, on the garage floor. Now the fun comes, the new 700r4 is longer than the 350 it replaces, so new mounts will be needed and a driveshaft needs shortening. I am hoping I can figure out the TV cable set up. It took a while to find a bracket made for a Street Demon carb, but the carb does have a spot specifically for the 700r4 cable to attach. Not sure if I can just assume that the geometry will be correct by using the bracket and the mounting hole on carb.

I was looking at that a few days ago. It seems that since then some carb manufacturers have set their carbs up to work with the 700r4 trans with no extra parts or modifying. ThiS Demon carb has a mounting point for the TV cable built into the linkage. It appears to be the correct distance from the pivot point according to what I have found online. I bought a self adjusting cable and a specific mounting bracket for this carb. It might be a simple thing to do.  Here's a pic of the setup/instructions.

I made some progress on the drill-press vise repair. I went looking for new screws, and nothing matched the threads in the vise body. Too small for Imperial, too big for metric. So I tapped all the holes to 1/4 20 and got new screws. New jaws made, smooth for this vise, just need to finish putting it together, so I can tap the nut plate I made.

Sumner's 700r4 info is vintage for sure.  He does not hotrod stuff any more..

He recently built a camp trailer.  I do not communicate with Sum.. I just check in on his web site a few times a year.

I have been building a all metal interior for my 37 Plymouth. Working on headliner now. This is going to be difficult. I hope I haven't bit off more than I can chew.

I made a bike rack for my pickup bed utility trailer.  We take the grandchildren and their bikes to the city bike park occasionally.  The second part of this project will be a two bike carrier for the back of the trailer. 3 bikes facing forward and 2 bikes facing the back.  The bikes will be tied off with bungee to eyebolts on the side of the trailer.  I like making stuff out of round steel rod.  The racks had to be light weight so that my wife, daughter, or the grandkids could load the bikes, when I am busy doing hot rod stuff.

That bike rack looks pretty slick ! I just got in from the garage and working on my T . last holes for fuel tank mounts drilled . I also ground down the welds on my intake and the grind marks kind of match the cast look well enough . I had to cut clearance into my hood shelves to clear where the frame notches are for header clearance . Then I contoured my water pump spacers to match the shape of the pump . Spacers are needed to clear the finned timing cover I so love ! Bolted the pump on and measured the block to pump length with my whizzy aluminum pulley and flashy stainless flex fan , I think the fan is about 3" from the front of the car !  I can get a little more room if I trim a bit off the pump spacers and the front of the pulley but probably only 1/4" or so . I really cant move the motor back as it is close enough to the firewall to not clear an HEI dizzy already and I dont know if that will get into my steering u joints as well . The simple solution is to go back to the tin timing cover :(  as it will move the pump back an inch . The frame has a 5 degree rake and the engine is set down 4 degrees to the back for a level carb . This makes the fan at a 9degree angle to the rad , closer at the bottom . I may just have to bolt the engine back in the car to verify that the fan clears the front crossmember . Pretty sure it does but I may have to check more thoroughly . I was hoping to fire this engine and break in the cam over easter but these problems may make that have to wait . My engine will be shy of 400 but over 350 horsepower . How thick of a rad will I need to cool it properly with the rad fitting in the T rad shell ?

Installed a electric set of running boards on the truck.  Wife can get in much easier now. She is short, her lack of body mucscle strength was not helping either. The artificial knee was not a problem. At least I was told  the knee was Not a problem.

I am down to 1 hearing aid. My left side aid , One of the little internal battery contact tabs broke off..  I knew something was wrong a few days before. The aid would turn off and on during the day.  I knew something was up.

When first fitted for the aids the tech told me: If the aids act up, change the battery. He said 8 outta 10 times a problem is battery related. As I changed the battery, I noticed one tab was catty wompous.. A little nudge with my pick tool and the tab easily flipped aside.  Dammit

My hearing aids are from the VA, and has various tones to let me know when things are happening. A certain tone when turned on, another when the batteries are getting low, sounds like a diesel horn. I told the dr. to set the diesel horn up loud, as I couldn't hear it. I still have the first set they gave me before replacing them after 5 years; they've got different adjustments and are adjusted differently than my current ones, but I still keep them for 'emergencies.'

Will your's be fixed under warranty?

I was getting hard of hearing, mostly on my right side, I had checked into hearing aids but the cost was astronomical. Last year ads for hearing "amplifiers" began to pop up on my FB feed. I bought a pair, for $139, and have worn one in my right ear since. It is great, it made such a big difference in my life. It has three different programs  for different settings you might be in and five steps on the volume. I usually keep it on one setting and have never gone over the second step in volume. They cannot be sold as hearing aids because the have not o.k.'d by the FDA, but are supposed to function the same. I can now hear the t.v. at a normal volume, and I can actually have a conversation in a vehicle on the highway now! 😃
