I have spent hours this week researching newer ring combos and piston availability. Some of the rings I'd like to use are only available in special order pistons. I found a few shops within 300 hundred miles of me that do diamond honing. I have  some decisions to make as to whether this is worth the effort. :)

It's not too hard to do. That is 6-7 layers, a small amount of "smoke" color, actually white and ochre, scrubbed in with a soft filbert brush till it won't spread anymore. You have to let each layer dry before the next coat otherwise it can reliquify the previous coat and leave a "hole", very hard to cover then, don't ask how I know! 😄

installed my finned timing cover after clearancing the bolt holes to get it to fit . Then spent a whole bunch of time cleaning dried silicone off my 1 piece rubber oil pan gasket . What a pain ! Does anyone have a way of stripping it easily ? some wonder spray or something ?

I made some speaker boxes today, I still have to paint them. This is the second try. The speakers were too deep to fit in the first try. I installed the dash brace I made, this was a second try too, but I was able to re-use half of the first try. I am on the first try to make a USB plug bracket, don't hold your breath. :D

Curious; boxes for what size speakers?

6" by 9". The speakers are mounting in the rear corners of an AD truck cab. There is limited room and I did not make the first try deep enough to clear the magnets on the speakers. I was able to recycle the first try for the front speakers that were smaller. I used 1/8" ABS plastic lined with acoustic foam.

Since Franks looking for postings here's what happened yesterday. Pulled the old 350 out and started cleaning things. It got pretty dirty the last 25 or so years! 😄

Here's a trick that you may have seen, to have the speakers "see" a larger volume box to improve the base response; insert a fair amount of poly-fil into the boxes. Pack it loosely, leaving enough room to easily insert your speakers into the boxes.

Available here, sewing stores, or your Wife may have some:

Not much to report.  I sold off my olde Enco lathe.  It was a tired machine. I have a few more tools sold once I re-retire from the transmission shop.  I figure if I sell the arbor press, trans case holding fixture and bushing driver set..  Less chance I will return to the transmission  place again?

I built a roll bar mount for the switch panel on the 1948 Simca drag car 7 year long  project..

The overhead heater in my garage seems to not be working correctly, burners come on, but fan never does.  Had the heater people out yesterday, and they said the motor was bad, then started checking things (probably 40 year old furnace).  Pretty quick he asks me if I have been getting headaches, and I said no.  He showed me the cracks in the burner chambers and said time for a new overhead unit.  Sometime this week I hope.

The interesting thing here is many years ago we were asleep in the house and the dog we had at the time, just started barking and running around the house.  We got up and the house stunk, so out we went.  Had the power company come by and the gas furnace had backed up and the whole house was full of CO. That dog save all of our lives so I have been pretty careful on CO.  I would have a detector out there, but I think the vehicles would set it off every time they start up.  Any one have an idea on how to have a CO detector in the garage?

Just got home from getting my second vaccine dose, and my torque converter, TV cable and mounting bracket were here. I pulled the trans out of my '46 yesterday, by myself, on the garage floor. Now the fun comes, the new 700r4 is longer than the 350 it replaces, so new mounts will be needed and a driveshaft needs shortening. I am hoping I can figure out the TV cable set up. It took a while to find a bracket made for a Street Demon carb, but the carb does have a spot specifically for the 700r4 cable to attach. Not sure if I can just assume that the geometry will be correct by using the bracket and the mounting hole on carb.

There was an article in one of those rat rod magazines that gave info on how to swap in a 700r4 . it gave the specific dimension of the distance from the centre of the throttle shaft that the tv cable had to be attached . I would guess the answer could be found on the interweb . Seemed to be pretty important to trans life that it be correct .
