Could you imagine driving through this?

........
Or this?

.......

I did, by myself, TWICE, in 1988 when I did 25,000 km throughout Australia in a three month time frame.  Crossed it once on my way to Perth from Coober Pedy/Port Augusta area in SA.  I took the southern route thru Esperance to Perth and then on my way back to Adelaide I took the route west thru the Southern Cross/Kalgoorlie.  I got  my one and only speeding ticket in Australia while crossing the Nullabor.  I was shocked there was even a police car out there as there would be hours between seeing other cars.  I never did pay that ticket.  I was surprised they let me back into the country a couple years later without asking for payment.  Ah...the days before computers I guess. :D

Back into the trip again.

I sold some gas gear to a bloke over here who was having trouble tuninig it for cold starts.

So, what else could we do but drop in for a coffee and tweek it up for him.
After all we were in the niehbourhood

Then it was off to visit Allan and the best little auto parts shop in the west

And look another hemi powered rod

And something he has been playing with in his spare time

Later we went in search of a local with a few cars

And this is his next project, and yes it is

Guessed who now?

Later on we made it to the meet and greet BBQ in South Perth, nice view of the city by night

And here we are, finally made it to Busselton and settled into our rooms

When we got here we bumped into a bloke that knows a bloke who has a sister who has a property just out of town, and is putting on a Pig on a spit for some of her friends.

He told us is we swore not to tell anyone where it was we could go

So after being blind folded and led somewhere down a dirt track we found this BBQ

Down the back paddock was a dam full of marrons, they are small cray fish, so they just had to catch some for the BBQ

Someone must have been down the main street telling everyone about the BBQ, because by the time the sun had gone down there were well over 80 people there, even Norm and Rod found it

Friday, first day of the Nats, time to cruise and have fun.

But when we woke up and gave the rods a quick check over we found that one of the spring shackles on the A roadster had broken.

We got it fixed later in the day after chasing down the bits needed

Then it was down the registration and grab our goodies

Who was it wanted to know if all the rods in WA have Hemi's??

More Hemi's.

After that we bumped into a group of local rodders who were going for a cruise and followed them around for a while.

Found a beautiful beach, check out how clear the water is.

I just had to take this photo, 3 blown coupes :D  :D  :D

Then later on we just had to go to the drive in

We are having a great time, so much so I keep forgetting to take photos,  but here are some.

So, how much detail can you get  on a kids mini rod?

Al finally found one that fits his style, now this one would look the part in his shed

Then at 11AM this bunch showed up and insisted on taking a photo

Then on Sunday we went for a cruise somewhere, and all these guys showed up

And all these guys............................

Then for the final nights dinner and presentations Al wanted to drink and not drive, so Linda offered him a ride. Do you think he's happy about being able to have a few drinks tonight?

Then when I got there they wanted me to park on the cruise track and not the oval like every one else...................go figure.

I got the best trophy I could have ever wished for..............................Best LPG powered rod

Sounds like other than having to wait on the hose to wash your car that one morning & not always able to get to the beer you had a fabulous cruise that ended with a surprise!
Thanks for the trip.

Thanks guys, but our trip is not over yet, we still have 2 weeks till we get home.

Monday morning and today all that we have to do is go down to the show grounds for a pancake breaky, then off to do the tourist thing.

This is our last morning in Busselton, coffee in the morning sun

On the road to Augusta and suddenly the trees get a lot bigger.

And what do you do when you get to Augusta?  Look at the ocean.

We made it to Pemberton, found a nice motel, and now we are told we just have to go and see the Glocester tree.

Not only is it bloody tall, you can climb it.

So we did

Ok now for some touristy stuff again, if you didn't know already Steve is a train driver and lover of all things Loco.

So it comes as no suprise that he found some trains.

We decided to go for a tram ride.

These guys just couldn't leave it alone

Anyone need a tow??

We found an engine with this funny lookin' thing hangin' off the side :D

And another one, where do they get these things??

Then we drove a couple of hundred Ks and found this amongst the tall trees.

Boy was it amongst the trees

Back on the ground you get to see just how big these trees really are.

Why don't you we would love to see some of our american friends down here.
I'll be back for my fourth visit there this august for Louisville and Bonneville. 8)

Andrew I think you might just about seen more of my home state than I have. Glad you're enjoying it.
Keep the pix coming.
I maybe from down under but I know which way is up.
Oh hell there goes another head rush.

32coupe

Keep the pix comin"  OK

Well when we were finished at the tall trees walk we were headed for Albany but I had a little issue, you see when we made the turn onto the highway and went to accelerate off, all I got was a loud bang and she don't want to move any more.

After sending the crew on up the road to find a spot where they could get mobile coverage, they rang for a tilt tray, and after a wait by the side of the road for 2 hours I too was on my way again.

The tilt tray guy owns the local panel shop and has a hoist in the corner of his shop and said that it was mine untilll I could get the repairs done.

So here it is up in the air, and we stripped it down to find out what happened

Well you tell me, but I don't think the axle should look like this.
We have a replacement on the way from Perth tomorrow, and we have a 4 bedroom house to stay in while we are here, so we are relaxing with a few beers and are in no hurry to get anywhere.

While I have the coupe up in the air I am giving it the once over.
I had to weld up on of the rear guards, find a nut for the radiator stay and rotate the front tyres, lucky I broke down

While out trying to find someone to fix the axle we found this in the back of an engeneering shop

It's only in the early stages of the build, buy the guy did say it was going to get a 426 Hemi

This is what happens when you let a man loose with a needle and thread without proper parental supervision.

Notice the location and angle of the "sandgroper nats" badge

Later it was our turn to go to the "Albuny" shed last night

There weren't too many cars there when we arived, but they did have some toys

And it was our turn to take the couch for a ride

Warning, warning, this is what happens when you go to a garage scene without a rod, and you take a slab of beer and don't have to drive home
