Then somewhere along the line, the true meaning of "NHRA" turned into "Not Hot Rods Anymore"  & became MEGA $$$$$...... :(

The same thing was said when "NSRA" dropped the "Pre-49" rule & became " Not Street Rods Anymore" .....  :(

Supposedly for the $ame rea$on$...... :?

That was a great response. :D

I speak GM, namely Pontiac so yeah. I'd be game for pushing the start of muscle back to '57.

Sleds and fat fenders duly noted although clarification on fat fender might help my understanding. I forgot about the big unibodies, and I'll buy that pony was a style. From and for racing.

My nose was stuck in HRM from 79-09 and I seem to remember drama about whether Grey Baskerville's rod had fenders on or not but never grasped what the big deal was. I see its a significant distinction. Things went awry when Pro Street reared it's head.

K was from Barris. Check. Read about Wally Parks many times. The rodder whose life boggles my mind most is M/T.

As the world gets more crowded, rods transition farther from practical transportation and closer to memorabilia. A guy like me should know this stuff but I was really to dorky to rod so I just played with used cars and parts with no aspirations aside from getting to work in a fun way. The 80s was a bad time to be a car nut.
