I met Don and Jay in person the same day I met the two Franks and some more of you, at a taco stand in Covina? California, and I sat down at a table with a breakfast burrito across a table from Jay and he just started talking like it was a continuation of a conversation we were having, in person, the previous night.  8)
I also remember being overwhelmed by RED sitting in Don's beautiful Coupe.
I think of talking to them and then remember....

Rodder's Roundtable / New stuff!

I think it looks great but my wife who works in the model shop of a car company would say to guide spray and block it a few more times. But then, She told me that before I painted my '40 GMC and I just said "It's a truck, its already straighter than it's ever been and I'm not getting any younger!" and that was 22 years ago!

Any of the above, and maybe timing mechanical and/or vacuum advances not advancing or maybe set retarded?
Even new thermostats can be bad, has/was it tested before installation?

The fuel pump IS pumping gas.
He disconnected a line at the engine(?) and turned it on and it DID pumped gas.

We're figuring the pump is NOT the problem. It's something after that like a relay or regulator or something.

Thanks for all the suggestions anyway!

Thanks Enjenjo,
HE was asking me earlier what a relay is, so he is on that track, I think.
I just wish he wasn't 500 miles away!
and sorry about the #'s, forgot my manners...

My brother bought a cheap '97 Geo Metro to get to work after the trans went out in his old Astro Van and now the Geo won't start. He's stranded at home up a dirt road outside of Grass Valley.
When it started acting up it was not restarting after driving just a few blocks, now it won't start at all.
It will fire if he puts some gas in the air intake so it's got spark and the fuel pump is pumping gas to the engine, but it's not getting to or past the injector?
It has a throttle body injection.
I don't know * about them and I know it's a "new car" but if any of you could give me a few ideas about what he could look at first I and he would  really appreciate it!

Thanks!
Not what I wanted to hear but at least we know what we are dealing with now
Again, Thanks for the reply!

Quote from: "Crosley"if reverse  functions...  this tells me :

the converter is transfering power

the trans pump is working

the input shaft is transfering power

the reverse input frictions and low-reverse frictions are working..

if there is no forward movement in ANY gear selection  1, 2, 3, D , then the forward clutch packs are smoked  , hard seals, etc.

No forward is not the result of a bad shift valve , solenoid in this trans.

The 1989  trans is not computer shifted -controlled

I remember meeting Jay for the first time at a taco stand in Covina on the first jaunt of a hot rod and hot cuisine week before the LA Roadster's show one year about a decade ago, organized by Don (DRD57) Bob (hotrodbob) and Frank (Enjenjo) before tearing down the I-10 to visit Mort's "museum" and HopUP office out in Riverside.
Jay was already there downing a breakfast burrito when I got there and I walked up and he just started talking about something we had been discussing a couple days before on the internet just as if we were life long buddies who actually had been talking about it in person.

I'm going to miss him.

My Brother's '89 Astro Van is stuck with no forward gears, but will go in reverse. IAs there anything he might be able to do in the gravel at his house in the woods, like a stuck shift valve or maybe a computer plug in that he could check before going to AAMCO or the junk yard with it?
It was sort of progressively getting slow to start moving after putting into in to gear I think if that helps.

Thanks in advance...
