Rodder's Roundtable / 1930 Low Ka$h Update
July 06, 2005, 02:43:56 PM
Little update.  Worked on the rod this weekend.  got the front end sittin' on wheels and the 500 Kaddy locked in at the proper "Eiffel Tower" height.    Everything was fab'ed and welded by me.  Still staying under the Low Ka$h budget.

I don't have the shocks on yet.  I got a kinda unique idea for that.  Let me know what you think.  Or maybe something I might have over looked.

Thanks for the replys.

GPster, I understand what you are saying.  I ended up changing my mind about the three link and am going with a four link design.  The trailer spring is pretty stout.  I plan on having very little movement in the rear so im hoping that the single spring is good enough for what I am going for.  When I decided to use just the single spring, I was concerned with the load rate of the spring and how it would handle.  My father and I built a trailer a while back and used the same springs.  With a load, it rides really well.  That's why I decided to use those.  Also you don't see to many single spring setups.  If the spring doesn't work to my likings, I'll end up putting on coil overs and a panhard bar.  For the front, I think it'll be oK!?!

As for where the "Z" is and the axle, yes, im going for the sedan look.   I still want the four doors (will require some mods to the rears to fit around my tires), but I won't have a back seat.  Just two built in buckets.  The "Z" ends up right behind the center door post.

nzsimon,  With my plans for nothing to be below the bottom of the frame rails required me to raise the engine a little which puts the driveshaft entirely above the "X" in the frame.  My driveshaft hump in the floor will also end up being my armrest.

Going for something very simplistic, loud and annoying.  And something a little bit different from the rest.

Thanks again for the replys.  Keep 'em coming...

Hi,

Thought Id post a couple pics of the progress so far on the 30 Chevy Sedan.  It's been a while since the last post ---> http://www.roddingroundtable.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1483.

I have been super busy the past couple months so I did a lot of figuring, but not much welding.  Well, I finally got some free time and started on the frame.  Below are the picks of the frame so far.  I will be making the control arms this weekend, and then we should have a roller.  Anyway, take a look at the frame.

Tell me what you think...
More pics coming...

Rodder's Roundtable / What fits a 1930 Chevy Spindle?
December 02, 2004, 02:15:32 PM
Thanks you guys, that's the info I was looking for.  I really appreciate it.  One nice thing about having a machine shop at my house is that I can fab any spacer or bracket up that I need.  Just gotta go on the hunt for some parts now.  My original intension was to run drums up front, but I think I'm gonna run disc now.  Should slow that 500 Caddy boat anchor down some.

Let me know if anybody needs anything machined up.  Check out //www.lpkustoms.com.  I'm part owner.  I'll have pics of the build up there soon.  New site design comin' soon also.

Again, thanks for the info.

Rodder's Roundtable / What fits a 1930 Chevy Spindle?

Hello all, I just wanted to pick yer brains for a moment.  I did a search for this but didn't seem to find what I was looking for.  I was wondering if anyone knew what hub/drum would fit on a 1930 Chevy spindle without much modification?  I've looked for drums that may interchange but didn't find anything.  I tried my 64 Impala drums but to get them to fit would require some machine time.  Thats no problem, I was just wondering if anybody out there has put anything on a late model Chevy spindle that works.

Please pass on any info.  It would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Rodder's Roundtable / NewB sayin' hola

Well, I just picked up the power plant for the Low Ka$h sedan this weekend.  I found an old 1970 Kaddy Eldorado in a junkyard near my house.  Kan you say 8.2 litre 500ci...  400 hp and 550 ft/lbs stock.  Of course those where skewed 1970 SAE hp numbers.  So I figure it'll be around 320 - 350 hp and 440 - 460 ft/lbs stock.  The only thing wrong with the engine that I could see, (reason for being in the jy) was a busted distributor shaft.

With a Muncie 4 speed behind the 500 going into a 1963 Olds Dynamic 88 rear end I got for free,  the sedan should have a little git-up. :D   Anyway, thought I'd gloat a little.  Now that I have the drive train, I can start layin' out the frame.  I'll take pics and keep you all posted.

Later,
Adam

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone.  I would like to do an era specific rod with parts from the early 60's and older, but fundage is an issue as always.  So some of the plans for the sedan (for now) are as follows;

POWER = freebie 1974ish complete 350 sbc (less then 80,000 on her) with a dual carb tunnel ram intake setup (eventually) TRANS = 1968 Muncie four speed (needs a rebuild kit) FRONT AXLE SETUP = original 30 axle suicide mounted, monoleaf 1970's mobile home spring, fab'ed radius rods, fab'ed steering rods.  REAR AXLE SETUP = either a 1995 Impala SS 10 bolt rear with posi (have laying around) or a 1964 Impala rear end (not purchased yet) mounted with a fab'ed 3 link setup.  BRAKES = Drums all around (need to get) INTERIOR = Fab'ed sheet metal interior with fab'ed front seat.  TANK = 15 gallon keg.  BODY & CHASSIS = 5" channel, 6" chop, wb stretched 132", about 3" to 4" off the ground.  TIRES = 30" tall 8"wide backs and 25" tall 5" to 6" wide fronts.  WHEELS = whatever I have laying around.  PAINT = Flat black w/pinstripe (gonna attempt to stripe her myself)

All work will be done by me for a goal of under $2000.  The main thing is just to get her going.  I would also like to take her to K'ZOO Nats next year.

I will keep you all posted.  Thanks again for the welcome.

Just wanted to say HI.  I'm new to the forum.  I am the "kid" George was talking about who bought his 30 sedan in this post .  http://www.roddingroundtable.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1457

Fear not George, for she has come to a new loving home.  I'm sure i'll be asking a lot of questions on the forum.  So thanks for the forum, and I hope to have her done within a year.
