Rodder's Roundtable / Too much power?
November 22, 2004, 09:30:08 PM
Maybe the result of a high speed reverse. If the car has a trans brake, that could cause that after repeated launches. I believe all the aftermarket planetary sets have better alloy in the shafts and gears.

I had another successful weekend. I installed the stereo system, installed carpet, finished the seat brackets, made a new panel to fit in the original dash grille for the receiver, changed the front mount for the console so it's stable. I was all set to take some pics and the batteries in the camera were to discharged to work. I still need a headliner, door panels, and a rear panel. The rear has obstacles because some of the stereo equipment is behind the seats. It's going to take more thinking.  I'm hoping that I'll have it all assembled by the end of next weekend. I will still have the rear fenders left but at least the truck can be out of the garage. My gagrage isn't very big. Working and having the truck in at the same time is difficult. I hope everyone had a good weekend.
Ps. the weather here was real poor.

I have the aod in my truck. I'd install a shift kit before installing the trans. Without it, the trans is a granny shifter. Wide open shifts are about 3800 rpm. I'm going to put in a transgo kit before summer.

The 2v heads will have fair low end. The 4v heads will have no low end. The original Boss had 2.25 intakes. Some of the other clevelands had 2.19's. The smaller valves are better for all around use. I would only do this if I wanted something different. None of the older motors have the street performance of the small port 5.0 head motors.

I changed over to mozilla firefox. That eliminates all of the pop ups. I've been using it for a couple of months now with no problems.

Not yet but I will. I've got everything removed installing stereo equip. What a pain. Back when you put in 2 speakers and a radio, life was simple.  When I get finished with the stereo junk, I need carpet and door, headliner stuff and I'll reinstall everything again. Then I think I'll have pictures worth looking at.

I've got the seats out of a 99 300m and the console out of a 02 Durango. The colors match but the console was too long for where it needed to be. It had a cup holder right where my floor shifter is. The cup holder went to the trash in short order. It has 2 more cup holders at the front of it and lots of storage space inside. There's also a 12 volt plugin inside the console. This stuff all came fron ebay.

Rodder's Roundtable / Possible next project

Look behind the seat for rust. If it's an old farm truck, they were famous for the inside being full of dirt and all the areas around the seat falling out. The 51 has a different grille and lower on the front fender. Not my pick but not a big deal. Lots of parts available. Good project.

Another good day for me. I installed the console, rebuilt the door hinges and got them painted. Taking the pins out of the hinges was no fun. I had to heat them up to drive them out. The list is getting shorter. I may live to see the end afterall.

I just installed the bi-level unit from vintage air. It has a selinoid valve that opens when the unit is turned on.

Well, I see most of us are close in age. And that does mean old.

Rodder's Roundtable / work on saturday

I had a successful day working on the 53 truck. The seats are installed, the 40 ford wheel is adapted to the monarch column, the shifter has been moved sideways to allow the console to be centered. I fired it up for the first time since I disassembled back in June. My little 3 weeks to paint estimate has been way off. I turned on the heat in the garage and I'm back at it in an hour or so. I have to rebuild the door hinges next. Almost everything I did to the truck the first go round has been redone, modified, or trashed. I hope this is the last time I think I need to disassemble the whole thing though. Stereo equipment should be here tommorrow. When that's done, I have the door panels, head liner, and carpet left. Then all the front end has to be bolted back on and the only thing left is to paint the rear fenders. Gee, sounds like another month, doesn't it.
