Rodder's Roundtable / Checking in

Quote from: "Grandadeo"Hey Paul, just noticed a recent post of yours and didn't remember every seeing you here on the RRT before, just the Ford Barn.  So a VERY belated welcome.  Have not been up in your neck of the woods for a few years now since my son moved back to FL from NH.  I think the last time was either the Ty-Rods or the Road Agents meet.  Again welcome.  (If I previously welcomed you and I just don't remember - please disregard this message)

Lee

Hello Lee,
Good to hear from you. I think the last time our paths crossed was at Road Agents a few years back.
I've been pretty busy with the car. A year ago I had it in Arizona for the winter and got hit by an illegal. Thank goodness I had uninsured motorist coverage or I'd have been out of luck.
Luckily, the damage wasn't bad enough not to drive it. I managed to drive from Phoenix to Good Guys in Del Mar CA. I ended up driving it a total of 7,000 miles for the year.
The roadster is currently in the body shop getting the damage repaired. It should be done in a couple of weeks. It's totally torn down. I've got a lot of work ahead of me to get it back on the road.

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: New hot rod publication

Quote from: "ians"theres a new quality hot rod publication coming out of the Uk, some people are saying its like a UK Rodders journal, its worth a look hotrodshowcase.co.uk

I just received a copy in the mail on Friday. Daniel Parker sent it to me. He traveled to Bonneville with the Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop last August and wrote an article about the adventure. He's now a member of the Bone's crew. Nice chap. The "thru the windshield" shots were taken from my AV8.
The magazine is really well done. It's truely a UK version of of TRJ.

Quote from: "Topsterguy"Hey Folks! I'm looking at replacing the T350 in my roadster with a WC T-5 out of an S-10. That's about all I know to look for so far! Anyone know exactly the trans to look for so I can narrow it down and get the right one first time!? Again, thanks bigtime!  Larry

I used a T5 from a 91 S10 that had a four banger. The only problem I had was that it used an electronic speedo. I had to change the tail houseing and shaft to an earlier T5 to mate my Model A speedo drive. I'm running a flathead, so the four banger trans isn't a power problem.

Quote from: "speedracer"My geico insurrance policy is expiring soon and need to know about getting some classic car insurrance.  Geico wants 287.00 per year for a 20,000.00 policy.  Anybody know of a better deal??
Thanks, johnny

Don't worry about cost. Service is what you want. I have Grundy on my AV8 roadster. I was rearended in AZ this past April. Grundy sent an adjuster out the next day to get the particulars. When I got back to MA in May, I got an estimate from a shop. Then Grundy sent another adjuster to check it out. They cut $200 from a $4800+ estimate and cut a check in 3 days. Not to shabby in my opinion.

Now for the temp gauges, one more radiator hose cobbed up and minimal wire for a test drive around the yard. The original strombergs are wanted by the guy I got the motor from, don't care much for them anyway. Got a clean pair of 94's model 59, the only jet size I have are 51 and 56.

From reading I understand the mild 24 stud duals use about 45 jets, so the 221 motor should use smaller yet? I was thinking of starting with .040 ?  It's all new to me I just want it to run, not planning on racing

I'm not an expert on this but I understand you can run the .051's with a 4.5 power valve's. I'm currently running Stromberg 97's on a 239 with .046's. when I had a 221 in my roadster, I had 94's with .051's but I listened to flathead Jack and plugged the power valves. It ran good, but I didn't notice any difference with two carbs than I did with just one 94 with .051's and a 6.5 power valve.
The most important thing to watch out for is how your plugs look after a highway run. Thats where the right jet size shows up. Too rich and you waste gas and wash the cyl walls of oil, too lean and you overheat and burn valves.

Rodder's Roundtable / Checking in

I'm checking in to stay active on this board. After signing up, I got sidetracked and didn't make it back.

I also post on the hamb and fordbarn.com.

I drive a '31 AV8 roadster with a 21 stud flathead. I built it over eight years and have been driving it for seven. It's currently torn down so I can install a T-5. I've had several set backs, but I'm starting to get back at it again. I had planned to have it done to drive to Bonneville in August, but now I'll just be a passenger in a friends car. Hope to take it next year.
