Rodder's Roundtable / VDO temp gauge
January 25, 2011, 02:55:21 AM
Quote from: "1800guy"What Rrumbler said sounds good to me.  More than once I've used my heater as an emergency cooling system helper.

I did that also towing up Sherwin Grade to the Sierras only to discover later that turning on the heater also fired the Air conditioning kinda negating the all the effect of the heat in the cab. next time pulled the wire on the ac. AND later put in a new factory clutch fan that solved years of overheating issues. ED some vehicle do not work this way

I emailed this to my boy to let him know how helpful and knowledgable you fellows are, thanks Ed

Quote from: "kb426"I used the after filter for a late model Mustang. It's frame mounted and 3/8" hose barb on both ends.

thanks for the info. I looked up a filter for a 2005 mustang and it looks like that will do the trick 14 microns.  Thanks for the information cost about 14 dollars.
one more question

Do you think my boy could use the same filter on a 6psi electric fuel pump operating system feeding his vw motor on his baja. or are these designed for high pressure systems like my 48 psi system??? I know better then asking at autozone he will just ask the make model and year.  ED

I put a 2.2 ecotec motor in my baja bug 2005 chevy cavalier. I need to install maybe a pre pump and after pump filter, any good choices that are not overly expensive thanks ED
was under the impression I need a 100 micron pre and 10 micron post pump to motor.??

Rodder's Roundtable / Drill rod for baja bug cage????

Quote from: "wayne petty"there are so many types of tubing...

just curious... is your baja still equipped with a VW front axle..??? that bolts on in 4 places to the front of the body...

if so... could you build something out of tubing like an aircraft engine mount..
bolt this to the front of the chassis to extend
the mounting of the axle beams. this is a side view.

sort of an extension bracket... i don't know how you could do the steering...  i have a hydraulic steering control valve a former boss took off a crashed LoveBug that was sent to scrap...

did the small plane come down close to your yard the other day...

The plane crashed about 5 miles from my home. The neighbor kid was next door to were it crashed and was one of the first on the scene. He is a pilot and he took me out for my first flight on a small airplane a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed that a lot and that would not stop me from going out again, more dangerous going to work on my 42 mile commute.

We built a pretty serious Baja for my boy all tubed in Dom with king coil overs.  there is a whole lot of stress on the front end, 4 wheel disc brakes, etc.  I am building mine on a budget from his and his father in laws old buggy parts, the best  in there day. Warrior beam, beefed up spindle, heavier sway bars, bilstein reservoir shocks, there old suspension seats, lights, wide 5 al. wheels and tires. I will be putting on a rack and pinion steering box, still cost a lot to put together and I plan on retiring in a few weeks and want to keep the play costs down.

I appreciate the advice and suggestion ED

Rodder's Roundtable / Drill rod for baja bug cage????
October 23, 2010, 11:11:08 PM
This is the add I found and the price seems right if it will work for my not too serious baja bug I am building, I still want to extend the front end 8 in from it present location and  the tunnel  will be removed that attaches the original beam and it will use dom to attach the new beam. but for some of the rest of the cage material I was thinking of using the material in this add

I am selling 6,500 feet of 1 1/2" OD (1/8" wall) steel pipe / tubing for $0.55 per lf. (24' lengths). I also have 1,440 feet of 1 1/4" OD material for $0.45 per foot. Works well for corrals, panels, gates, chutes, round pens, arenas and continuous fencing. Low carbon steel, welds great. Also 30 heavy duty 12' panels available for $110.00 each, not the light weight panels like you find in the feed stores. Please call Steve for more info @ (Bakersfield) Delivery available

DO YA THINK IT WILL WORK THANKS  Ed

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Can't pass emmissions!
March 05, 2010, 03:14:05 AM
Quote from: "freddrew"Just before you take the vehicle in for the next emmissions test, make sure the engine is warmed up and add a Quart of Methyl Hydrate to the fuel tank.  That helps most engines pass the tests.
Fred

where would you get methol hydrate is this the same as methaol ED

Rodder's Roundtable / OT..Small Engine Repair...
December 12, 2009, 08:39:55 AM
I got one of them for a lawn motor and installed in on a 2 stroke aircooled tiny boat motor and worked fine.  My question will it work on my new toy trail 70 Honda motorcyle.  My son in law paid about $90 for an electronic  module off ebay this would be great if it works thanks ED

Rodder's Roundtable / Aluminum Radiators
November 25, 2009, 01:23:09 PM
Quote from: "47convert"I used Walker HD rads in a couple of my cars but still had some heating problems on hot days and in traffic. The rad I have in my coupe is one of those Griffon Aluminum rads. I think Griffon has gone TU but It's the best piece I ever had. This is a 34 Highboy with a mild small block Chevy and a full stock hood. I originally put it together with no T Stat and couldn't get the temp over 180 degress all summer. I use a steel 7 blade stock car fan with no clutch. Now that the weather is cooler and I finally hooked up my heater hoses I couldn't get the heat gauge to move off of cold. I installed a 160 T Stat and it comes right up to 160 and stays there. Too bad this company is no longer around.

I have a Griffin in my 50 F1 with a 327 and it runs very cool with the dual spal 11" fans. only complaint is that they epoxy the ends and may be a problem if a repair is needed. 1.5 in tubes 2 row.  But not single problem in the lase few years. ED

I will give the newspapers a try unless a better idea comes around. And do have some homemade dollies

Has anyone made there own simple turning plates to align your vehicle at home.  I have the caster camber tool, but having the wheels turn freely would simplify the the procedure and maybe not have to move the vehicle back and forth to set things in.  Thanks ED

Rodder's Roundtable / Body Swap and Registration
August 10, 2009, 03:49:42 AM
I am putting a 53 chevy one an 85 s10 frame. I have the 53 registered and it doesn't seem like it is any of there business what frame is under them. I will keep regestering as normal. Ed

Ps I have F1 that is my first project and my boy was at the first Van Nuys Cruise get together and the big crowd gatherer was an F1 Diesel Rat. I will try to get over there this Wed. even thought I will need to be at work that evening for graveyard shift.  Ed
