New guy on the block

Thought I'd say 'Hello' and introduce myself. I've been into traditional hot rods and old cars in general since I was a kid (62 now) and have had many different cars through the years. As of now, I've got a '55 Buick with a 401 Nailhead & 4-speed; a '37 Chevy rumble seat coupe with a 235, a '71 Olds Cutlass convertible (OK, it's really my wife's car); and have a '46 Chevy pick-up that I'm rodding. I got a great wife of 43 years who's a car nut, two kids, 5 g'kids and retired to my barn & shop about 7 years ago from a job with a major machine tool manufacturer.

I love working on cars, going to swap meets, long distance trips in the old cars and life in general. My motto now is "You HAVE to get older (good Lord willin'), but you DON'T have to grow up !!".

I've been on HAMB since 2002 and know quite a few people here as a result. I've lurked a bit here for a while, but decided to finally sign up and join the fun.

I'll do my best to be a good citizen here and learn where I can, provide info if I'm able, and keep my mouth shut if I can't do either.

Welcome ! I was born in Rochester and grew up in Henrietta. Left for the Air Force in 61 and go back to visit every 4 or 5 years. Maybe we crossed paths years ago. Tom...

Thanks for the welcome, Tom. I've been in Rochester all my life. Grew up in Gates, lived in Irondequoit for a number or years and now live in the Town of Greece.

Welcome TM, I grew up in the Buflo area. Used to go to Rochester for the indoor Autorama show back in the '60s. Moved to Florida when I got out of the Navy in'70 - Thank God. Hope to be up for the Niagara Reunion this summer in the '32. Maybe we'll run into ya up there. Again Welcome.

You will find lots of folks here that are always ready to help...Lots of "Age & Experience" from what I've seen....

A good group of people to be sure.....

A young pup like me has learned a bunch from them...

Post some pics of your rides when they allow you to. I'm especially interested in the Chevys. Will the P-Cup be inline powered too?

I'll try posting some pics later, once I figure out how. For some reason my old FTP won't work for me anymore and now I'm going to try photobucket.....we'll see if it works!

drgrcr50: I know Roger and the (2) '55 Chevy gassers he bought from you. Your workmanship is excellent and inspiring. I've seen Roger race and he's good, very good, in fact. He's also a real nice guy to talk to.
As far as being a Yankee goes, I'm working to correct that as we speak. I've been trying to get my wife to move down to either Kentucky or Tennessee to get away from the northeast. Can't stand the weather or the politics of this area.

Grandadeo: I LIKE that name! I'll be at the Sunday Niagara meet next summer. I crew for my buddy's '60 Falcon 2-door gasser. We'll be parked with the Gasser Gang, so make sure to introduce yourself, have a couple of beers and swap some lies!

Mac: No in-line for the '46 p-u. I got a great running '67 327 from a friend's Corvette, because it wasn't "numbers matching", for $200.00, so I couldn't pass it up. It's going to be a dailey driver, so I'm putting in an A833 3 speed + OD in it. So far, it's a rolling chassis (boxed frame, new cross members, etc.), but I've noticed since I've had more time, things seem to take a lot longer to get done! Oh, well, I'm always busy, but I tend to work on whatever interests me at the moment. I guess that's what retirement is all about - doing what you feel like doing - right?

If any of you guys (or gals) are ever in the Rochester area, give me a 'heads up' and I'll give you a free shop tour and beers!

I sold a 36 Ford 4 door sedan to a guy from Rochester a few years ago. Pretty nice car painted Washington Blue.

Welcome to the RRT. You are right about not having to grow up. I remember my mother used to tell me to "act my age" but I have never learned how! LOL!

Hey, you already have 1 in-line rod so you're alright in my book. Seriously, the 327 and A833 will be a sweet combination. One Corvette owners trash is everybody else's treasure! My `63 C-10 shortwide (that I bought from a guy in Albion, NY BTW) runs a 283 that I just put a T-5 behind. I thought about an A833 but they're hard to come by and ...well I got the T-5 free from a neighbor.

How are you fixed for body parts on the `46 truck? I have some leftover from the `41 I used to own. A pair of decent rear fenders and a real nice hood.

Thanks anyway, but I think I'm all set on body panels. My truck came up from Texas and, except for sand EVERYWHERE, mud Dauber's nests and bullet casings under the seat, the truck was in pretty much excellent condition. Oh, the box floor has to be replaced and there are two silver dollar-sized holes on each side of the cowl under where the front fender mounts, a couple of small dents and a few extra holes in the firewall, but all-in-all amazingly straight and rust free for a 63-year-old vehicle.

I really wanted a floor shift transmission with OD, since I love road trips. I drove my '37 coupe to Rapid City, SD (3600 miles) and averaged 23 mpg. That's with a 235 and a torque tube mounted OD unit. When I drove the '55 to Bowling Green, KY to the Hot Rod Reunion, I got about 13 mpg. The truck's gotta do better than that !!
