Hi Guys
72 Chevy C20 with 402 & turbo 400
The truck has sat for awhile and now when you drive it it takes alot of rpm to get it to shift..... seems ok other than that so I need to know...

1. What should I look for?
2. Will it clear up with alittle driving?
3. Is it something I can fix not knowing anything about transmissions?

Thanks for any advice...

Check the vac. hose from the carb/intake to the vacuum modulator on the side of the trans. Critters might have eaten a hole in it.

I had the same problem with my El Cameo with a 400 trans after I hit a large puddle of water. The vacuum line had come off the modulator. It ran fine after I put it back on.

Well the hose was broke off at the trans  :)  So I took the metal line out and put hose all the way up to the manifold.... Problem solved!!  :D  :D
Now I have one more qusetion
The metal line I took off had the ends reduced down.... I took it out cuz the 4 sizes of hose I had non would fit
Will it effect anything having the same size hose all the way up?

Thanks again

the problem with all hose in vacuum situation , is if the hose has a thin wall i t will collapse  and trap vacuum or not allow the vacuum thru.

this will cause odd shifts if the vacuum is trapped.

And what is the reason for the steal tube being reduced on the ends?

It slows down the rate at which the vacuum changes at the modulator diaphram. My guess is to prevent the diaphram from fluttering. I have a tool to make those restrictions, that was not it's original purpose, but it does a fine job.
